    AQF and Hairdressing???

Hi Folks, We are trying to go to Adelaide on my hubbys application but things are not looking good as we are running out of time.. he is 45 next year and so looks like we can only go for Employers Sponsorship with him as main app. Soooo... as a back up plan I am now trying to change career path and get a qualification and job that is on the current MODL. The two options I have are realistically Hairdressing or Occupational Therapist. The OT is a full time degree but I have some appropriate knowledge on it as I currently work on the finance tean, but it is going to take me a good 5 years to complete the course and get 12 months work experience. So.. my other question is, hairdressing seems the quickest option but is an NVQ Level 3 certificate valid? According to the criteria I would need to hold an AQF.. or does that mean equivalent - does anyone know if the NVQ is valid or not? And just out of interest what option is the better of the two? I have 3 children.. 6yrs,3yrs and 3 months at the moment, the longer we leave it the harder it will be for them to leave family and friends behind... such a tough decision to make!! Thanks in advance! xx

  3. Hi all This is my first post :-) My partner and I have made the decision to migrate (hopefully!) to Australia. Its something we've discussed for months and months but have decided this is definitely what we want to do. We will be applying for a visa based on his skills as a bricklayer. The problem we have is he has no formal qualifications. He is 25 years old and has worked as a bricklayer since the age of 17 and performs all tasks to a competent standard. I don't know what route to now go down... 1. Can we apply to be assessed by VETASSESS despite him having no qualifications 2. I have discovered something called the EWPA (Experienced Workers Practical Assessment) that I believe would give him an NVQ level 2 should he pass. Is this enough? 3. I have found ACTs which is expensive but would give him an AQF III and also the blue card needed to work in Oz Has anyone else got this problem/been through this. What do we do!? We want to give ourselves the best possible chance of getting this right. I am i talks with an immigration specialist in australia but he is suggesting we come to australia in the next few months to get Paul assessed. Im not sure about this as Paul cant afford time off work at the moment. :arghh: Many thanks Chelsey and Paul
  4. hi there, just read your message about ata, have you done the aqf111 in plastering yet? if so what are over all costs,as seen ata £1500 is this figure correct? also tradetrain charging £2950 for the aqf111. whats different about courses apart from price tag? any info would be great as finding all these figures and different companys confusing and dont want to be ripped off. many thanks adi

    AQF Certificate III

Dear All I'm new to this Forum and I need some help before my head explodes :goofy:. I am in the early stages to start the long process to apply for a VISA, and from what I can gather I first have to get an AQF Certificate III so I can get my TRA. Has anyone got their trades recognised just from experience, without any formal courses. How can I proceed??? Thanks in advance for any help and ideas given Koala Bear

    Hairdressing AQF 111

Hi I am a hairdresser who mislaid their Apprenticeship Papers. I have started to collate all the information required for the TRA, but have also been advised from the Agent today that AQF 111 route might be a better route. (As I was not informed correctly from the 1st Agent). I have been on the web, but have not been able to find anything towards this certificate, and wondered if anyone on this site might have taken this route to get into oz. Any information given would be greatfully received.

    Aqf 111

hi guys , I would just like to post a note regarding the AQF 111 I have just completed with Australian Trade Assessments , I am a suspended ceiling fixer ( fibrous plasterer ) and due to the pathway D debacle I found myself having to get this extra qualification , everyone at ATA made the whole process as painless as possible and completed my assessment in record time , Renna`e who works in the office has been a real help answering my questions and generally putting up with me , if any of you are after an AQF 111 dont hesitate to use Australian Trade Assessments

    AQF Level 3

Hi all. This is my first entry so here goes. My wife and I have been trying to get to Oz for 7 years now and have come up against a ton of hurdles. However, our agent has now come up with the idea of sitting an AQF level 3 exam under the category of electrician, special class. I'm actually an electronics test technician specializing in home entertainment repair/service. Can anyone tell me how in depth the exam is please. just so I can be prepared should an exam become available. Many many thanks.
  9. Hi All A new member on Poms in Oz has been abominably badly let down by a migration agent. The company is NOT any of the firms who are regularly mentioned on here. In order to limit the damage which this dreadful company has caused to this poor man and his family, the first thing he needs is an AQF III assessment as a Cook. As I understand it, this could be organised either via Chef Central or via Culinary Solutions? (I have also heard of a third one which I will come to.) I am looking for help with the following information, please: Chef Central Do they do the AQF III assessment in the UK? Are they able to arrange it reasonably quickly? What do they charge? Culinary Solutions They seem to be based in or near Melbourne. Do they send assessors to the UK or is a trip to Australia needed? Are they able to arrange the assessment reasonably quickly? What do they charge? Have there been any particular reasons why members on here have chosen one rather than the other, please? Which of the two is more popular? I am just trying to find out what I can over the weekend. Googling it just now it seems that Holmesglen Institute of TAFE might be able to do AQF III assessments for Cooks as well? Does anyone know whether this is so, please? Holmesglen are somewhere near Melbourne as well, I believe. As far as I know the TAFEs do not send anybody to the UK? Does anyone know, please? Recruitment Agencies for Chefs/Cooks The PiO member needs the AQF III because he has 20 years experience but no formal qualifications. He started the migration process in 2007 when he was 43 but was caught out by the closure of TRA Pathway D. How on earth a migration agency which claims to be a market leader managed to overlook the fact that AQF III assessments for Cooks were readily available by the middle of 2008 is anyone's guess. Hpwever this particular (and particularly useless) migration agency managed it. The guy turned 45 in January 2009 with nothing having been done on his behalf. The company has had £4,000 GBP of their money but has done absolutely NOTHING in return for it. The only way to get the family out of the mess now is if an employer sponsor can be found. Does anybody know of any agencies which specialise in finding work for Chefs or Cooks in Australia, please? Ideally the family would like to move to QLD but in view of the way they have been so appallingly badly let down up to now, anywhere in Australia will have to do for the time being so they are not fussy about location with the proviso that if it is one of the agencies which only offers to help with temporary 457 visas then the ACT or NSW will not do because the couple have four school age children and both of these States charge hefty school fees for the children of 457 visa holders. Any help at all with any of the above would be very gratefully received. Very many thanks Gill
  10. Hi, Does anyone know if a diploma in counselling would be equivalent to an AQF diploma. My sister would like to emigrate, and doesnt have any formal qualifications related to her job and is considering doing a diploma, which would mean 10 months of full time study. From what I have read, the equivalent AQF Diploma requires 2 years full time study. Has anyone passed a skills assessment as a counsellor or welfare worker with a diploma? She doesnt want to go down the route of leaving work to study full time, if in the end it doesnt qualify her for a visa. Additionally, do you get points for having a family sponsor? Or is it just that you require 20 points less on the 176 visa as it is 100 points rather than 120? Thanks Shaz
  11. I have posted different treads on here about dodgy agents and pathways dissapearing, but have regained my momentum and some energy to start all over again. I have looked at different avenues, and sort advice from many, most haven't got back!! I have learned from my previous lessons, and am not willing to part with money and be ripped off again. However there does appear to be a glimmer of hope!!! Therefore if you have been through the process I am looking at, I would welcome your advice!!! I am looking at my husband obtaining and AQF III (LMF30402 Certificate III in Furniture Making (Cabinet Making) As he is a kitchen fitter with 22 years exp and no formal quals except gas, pluming and elects but those pathways are not suitable. Then going down pathway E with the TRA, and then going for the 175 visa. His trade is on the SOL, and on the MODL. I have found a company called ACTS UK, based in Cheshire, UK. I have have a good lengthy chat. The guy I spoke to seemed really nice and helpful, had a lot of knowledge of the industry and what was going on at the mo. But I am aware to ask others before I embark on parting with lots of money again!! Has any-one used them or been down this route? My husband has tonnes of evidence to produce so it seems to be the answer for us. However I would welcome any advice or experiences of people who have been down this route, or gained an AQF.

Hi All I just wanted to wirte and say that I'm so pleased  my OH has just gained his AQF III in cabinet making so step 1 of the whole process is now complete. Next step is to appoint an agent and put in for the TRA (before they decide to change anything!) Any way I just wanted to say congrats to all who have had their visas granted and good luck to everyone else. KT

    Aqf

Hi all!!! Can somebody please tell me the Australian equivilent is to a NVQ 4 in Association of Accounting Technician please? From the AQF. I have selected a 40 point occupation. I am being assessed by the Vetasses group. Has anybody had a positive feedback from the above Qualification? Do you think i will get a positive assessment?? Help please..... Thank you
  17. Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhh - I had to let you all know how excited and happy my hubby and I are; we have finally received his Australian qualification!!!! and are now jumping for joy! My hubby's NVQ II plastering qualification was not enough, as he had not completed enough college hours, even though he has been plastering for over 10 years! So he has had an assessor come and check out his work and issue him with an AQF III certificate in solid plastering which should enable him to get through the TRA easier and also be better paid once we arrive out in Australia (if and when we get there!!!). It is a very expensive way to go, but must be worth it if we succeed into getting our visa! Its taken long enough to arrive, and we have been pulling our hair out as we want to get onto the next stage - the dreaded TRA. We are hoping to pass all the info (which I have spent weeks preparing for) over to our agent now and we will be keeping everything possible crossed and hope that we pass the TRA! Thanks to all of you that have advised us up to this stage, lets hope the next stage is as successful! Tasha 02/09/08 - 110% positive we want to go to Oz 01/10/08 - Told family (went down like a lead balloon!) 02/10/08 - Appointed an agent 23/10/08 - Hubby assessed for AQF III qualification 14/11/08 - Hubby received Qualification!

Can you study your AQF in Oz

Can anyone help here, Ive been told I need to gain an AQF qualification in order to start the visa application process. after looking into the costs it looks to be about £1500 here in the uk, however Im travelling to melbourne this xmas and wondered whether i could kill two birds with one stone and perhaps be assessed there at a cheaper price... Has anyone any thoughts ?? thanks
  19. Hi all, We are right at the beggining of TRYING to emigrate to Queensland, Australia. We like the pacific pines area but are flexible if this doesn't fit in with the visa we can get! My husband is an operations manager for BT/Openreach but has been promoted through the company working his way up from engineer to manager - he doesn't have any post secondary qualifications:confused: ... My aunty lives in queensland 4075, and would be able to sponsor us, I have a degree in Textile design and a PGCE for further, higher and adult education but am not working at the moment as I am a full time mum to our 2 children aged 4 and 2 so I do not have the experience to act as the main visa applicant  We have been in contact with a migration company who have told us we may get in on a 475 or was it 457 visa?? Anyway can anyone tell me a bit more about this visa, what are the restrictions also does anyone know of any way my husband can improve his chances of getting a job of similar pay and status over in Australia - is there any management courses he could do that will help, either over here or any he could consider studying in australia. So many questions, I hope someone can help put our minds at ease!!

  22. Hi all, can anyone recommend a training centre in the UK for an AQF level 3 Carpentry / Joinery qualification please? Also any ideas on how much this will cost? Unfortunately the OH has no formal qualifications, although been in the trade for at least 10 years & is more than capeable!!! Been told we have to go via TRA due to our circumstances!! Seems very unfair seeing Vetasses don't require a formal qualification! It's soo frustrating!!!:arghh: Thanks.

  25. Hi All Can anyone answer our question? - my oh has been looking into the AQF III for cabinet making - we have been on a website called UK Trade Trian (ACTS) this company states that they can get you the AQF III so that you pass the TRA Ass. and that they are based here in the UK - does anyone know if you are required at anytime to go to oz in order to complete the AQF as I have read quite a few threads where people are saying that they had to go over to gain AQF. Also while I'm here does anyone know how you go about finding employers who are willing to sponsor you - are there any website that we could search? Long question i know but hope some one can help Many Thanks
