    Adelaide bound!

Hello all, I've just joined! I'm at the beginning of my emigration journey after getting a brilliant job offer in Flagstaff, Adelaide. I'm planning to move out to Adelaide with my daughter (aged 5) and my mum. Would love to hear from anyone who's made the move to Adelaide, particularly advice on schools and househunting. Looking forward to being there next year!

    From Adelaide to Queensland

Hi All, Am new to this forum but not to Australia. Have been living in Adelaide for 5+yrs now and have decided to up sticks and move once again. We had planned to move at the end of the year once our eldest has finished year 7. However, everything doesn't always go as planned and out of the blue my husband was offered a job in Brisbane so he moved up there 2 weeks ago. So now he's up there when he has any spare time I send him out on fact finding missions for the ideal place for us to settle and with good schools. I did quite fancy The Gap and have heard excellent things about their high school however Gavin has heard that this was one of the areas affected by the floods?? I also like the Ferny Grove/Hills and Samford areas and have heard great things about Ferny Grove high school too. We like the fact that it is quite hilly and a bit out in the country as this is what we are used to. So does anyone on the forum live in these areas or have any knowledge of them. I will be making a trip up with the kids nearer the end of the year but just want to try and narrow it down a bit before then. Many thanks Deb:smile:
  3. Hi there, We have at last been granted our residence visas for Australia and are now going to be validating our visa at the beginning of September. We are heading to Melbourne to stay with family and are then going to undertake a reccy across to Adelaide, as our 176 is for South Australia. Can anyone help with answers to some of our questions? We will be staying in Adelaide for 3 nights, we have a 2 year old son, so an appartment would be the best option, can anyone suggest/name some places to stay....approximate cost? If appartments hard to come by, which hotels would be the best option? What areas should we NOT look at for housing? What areas are family friendly and affordable? How much would a 3 bed house cost? To buy and to rent? What estate agents should we check out? My profession will be mental health nursing once qualified, what are the names of hospitals that have adult psychiatric wards? Any other information that you think may be of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

    moving to Adelaide

Hi Guys, we are a family of 4 from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. We have applied for a Skilled Migrant Visa and are about halfway through the process. We are looking at Adelaide and were wondering if anybody knows anything about Craigmore? Is it good for children? We have 2 girls 11 & 9. Or can anybody suggest any other areas that may be suitable? thanks
  6. Hi, my name is Holly, new to Adelaide.. 1 week ago and came from Melbourne where I have been for about 5 years. Orig. from the UK, Wales. Moved with the family, including a twin sister and boyfriend. Living in the South of Adelaide. Would love to meet some british friends as I hear this is where the expats move to. Interests are beach, sport, shopping and travel. Not really sure what to write on here.. feel like a bit of a loner hehe. Just wanting to meet some people around my area with the same interests. I also model from time to time and really enjoy trying new things. Send me an email if you are searching for the same.. (friends only please).. Holly

  9. Hi, thought I´d try and give a bit of info since i arrived a couple of weeks ago. My first ever visit to Oz (not Aus..... been ´corrected´ several times by locals) Arrived Sydney at dawn to get connecting flight to Adelaide... stunning clear sky and sunrise...what hit me was clarity of air. Ive been living in the Middle East and the sky is always dusty, so this is good! Adelaide is really friendly, people are genuinely nice, but as a city is doesn´t blow me away. its pretty in a way but it is a big town/small city and to me slightly scruffy. I´ve driven all over and love the hills, found Norlunga and Aldinga v quiet and slightly feral. But all that said I could see us living here. Medicare, Tax number..... so easy and really straightforward Problem came looking for work.. I had two interviews on the way through from Sydney, within 24hrs of landing in Adelaide I had two offers to work in Sydney....with a great deal of fear I turned them down.... two weeks later, theyve both come back and raised the offers and despite chasing every advert, agent, contact I have in Adelaide.....not even an interview. So I´ve taken job in Sydney. Now this will no doubt attract the ire of the moral brigade, but as I said in another thread... work is money is living.. the option of turning down a job paying close to 200k for the possible long term chance of a job in Adelaide paying 120K means sod sponsorship. So far Oz ok, doesnt blow me away, but this is country 8 in the past 10 years, probably because its all too familiar....but, it pays well, i don´t have to work away from the family and its warm. on the good side, I´ve been taken to some of the kids sports coaching classes like swimming and tennis and frankly this blows me away.....the professional coaching that kids get here is mindblowing..... and that is why we came..
  10. Hi All We know we're jumping the gun here but does anyone have any recomendations for areas to settle in Adelaide? I'm hoping to find work at the airport, though have been driving 110 miles each day to Heathrow and back, so traveling doesn't bother me but a nice area with good schools would be nice. All ideas most appreciated. Deb & Stoo
  11. So im planning on going to Adelaide and the first thing I want to do is the 88 days territory work to get it out of the way. How do I go about doing this and is it true mining/construction is included in it unlike Perth where you have to pick fruit.

    Moving to SA next year

Hi all, I am an English woman with an Australian husband and English/Australian toddler! We are moving back to Oz early next year, if all goes to plan and would love to hear from anyone else who have a similar family set-up i.e. english and aus partners. And how they dealt with visas and other issues with the move. Hopefully moving to SA and possibly the Adelaide area. Also if anyone is familiar with home educating or natural parenting in Oz let me know! Thanks. Keean (pronounced 'key-en')

    Best schools in Adelaide

My husband, our 4 children and I have finally decided to take the plunge and start our application process for Adelaide, I think!! With everything that Adelaide has to offer we think it is the best choice for our family however I still need some clarification. I would just like some advice on schools for our children aged between 1 and 12. We would really like to live as near to the beach as possible without being too far from the city. I have read that the best places to live are on the east of the city but this means you aren't right near the beach. Are there schools of the same calibre on the coast? This is quite important to us as one of the reasons we want to move to Oz is to be by the beach (we live by the beach in the UK) but obviously we don't want to compromise our children's education by being in the wrong location. If it means we have to look at a different city to get the best of both worlds then so be it. I should mention that we would be on a provisional regional visa if this makes any difference. thanks for reading.....:cute:
  16. Hi, We may be arriving in Adelaide in August (if interview goes well!) and will initially need a short-term furnished rental until our container arrives. We are hoping to settle longer term in the Hallet cove area. I'd appreciate any advice or information you can give me on where to look and/or how to secure. We are bringing our dog over who will join us when he's been through quarrantine. Many thanks!

    Adelaide here we are!!!!

Well it's not even been a week since we arrived but everything has been going so well thus far..... We arrived on Monday 25th direct into Adelaide, the flights were great, quick flight from Dublin to London, the A380 from London to Singapore (which was soooo good!), a swim in Changi Airport (thank you PIO i never would have known about this without u all!) then direct into Adelaide, skipped through customs and quarantine and the family collected us. Had a few days of house sitting and now sharing with the family. All going well but the house hunting has started in earnest. We've been to a few viewings, applied for 1 and awaiting word, a few more viewings this week so we'll see how we go! I'm starting work on May 16th, and the OH is still looking. Other than that we've been catching up with people, seeing a few sights and settling in. We're really enjoying it here and looking forward to getting our own spot to call home and beginning our lives here! Caz

  22. Hello, We are moving to Adelaide early next year. I have 2 children ages 7& 10. We are looking at staying around Hallet Cove, Happy Valley or Morphett Vale. Don't really know much about the area. Can anyone tell us more about this area? Is there any good school around? Is there a lot of ex-pat with young family we can meet up when we move there? We like for our children to feel at home and meet new friends to play with. If anyone can give us feedback would be very greatful.

  25. ADELAIDE has been judged Australia's most liveable capital city and Sydney the least. That's the finding of a Productivity Commission report comparing the planning and zoning systems across all state and territory jurisdictions. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/housing-traffic-make-adelaide-australias-most-liveable-city/story-fn59niix-1226057058581
