    Canberra short-term Accommodation

Hi guys!! I've already posted this on the "Renting and Real Estate" forum, but thought it might be useful to post it on here aswell. We had a hard time trying to find short-term accommodation in the ACT for our arrival next month. We wanted something furnished for a few months, till our container shipment arrived. Some of these are very short-term (i.e. for a week or so) and others are suitable for extended stays of up to 3months. We found most short-term accommodation to be expensive, but in the end canberrafurnished.com.au were about the best on price (imho). Other sites are as follows: Dawsons Hotels, Motels < Accommodation, Conference Venues < Meetings in Australia & New Zealand www.quickbeds.com reservations@manukapark.com.au www.canberraccommodation.com.au Australia Total Travel Guide - Accommodation, Tours, Flights & Maps Canberra Motor Village http.//cparker.actewagl.net.au (Langley Heights Bed and Breakfast) Best of luck to those of you moving to ACT - hope to see you all there!:jiggy:
  2. Hi there, We're moving next month to Canberra, ACT and had a hard time trying to find initial/temporary accommodation upon arrival, so I thought that this information might help others. We've managed to secure a lovely fully-furnished 2-bed apartment with pool and secure underground parking for 3months in Griffith (central to the city) for $600 per week (inclusive of electricity). No application process, just $200 deposit required, which was great for us, as we've never rented before!!!! They are called: Canberra Furnished Accommodation … your home away from home … T (61) 2 6295 0975 F (61) 2 6161 2495 E info@canberrafurnished.com.au W canberrafurnished.com.au The following information was also sent to me by Jenny in the Business Migration Centre, ACT. 3. Hi all There does not appear to be a section that covers importing pets into Australia, so I hope that this section is okay. My family and I are to bring our 3 Dobermanns over with us next year, when we move to Perth. The problem we face is that are relatives live in residential areas and there is a 2 dog per household ruling. We therefore must buy a rural property to accommodate this, but where can we rent in the interim? I'd appreciate all ideas! Best wishes, Amanda J. Houstoun
  4. Hi All Moving to Adelaide on 22nd September (getting very stressed, blood pressure must be at its highest ever), we have a rental for the first 10 days and need something thereafter. I know it is school holidays then and so is difficult. Have tried lots of agencies and PIA, no luck. Looking at Port Noarlunga and surrounding areas. Does anyone know of any holiday/short term lets? Thanx Jackie

  7. Hi, we are off to validate our visas very soon. Hooray, cannot wait. Can anyone recommend holiday accommodation, being a chalet, self catering etc for 13 nights 3 adults and 2 kids, then our friends are coming down for 3 nights to be with us, so that will make a total of 4 adults and 3 kids. We would if possible all like to stop in one unit - dont know if its possible. Somewhere on the coast along from Glenelg, Brighton, Henley Beach, West Lakes, Grange, somewhere within easy and short travelling distance to Adelaide Centre. Thank you. I have looked on many sites, but alot of them only accommodate max of 6.
  8. Hi there, Just wondered if anyone had or knows of any rental accommodation available for the week 20th July to 26th July in the Adelaide CBD. Would prefer an apartment, that would accommodate a respectable family of 2 adults and 2 children (age 11 and 7). Thanks Julie
  9. Hi, My husband and I are planning on moving to Brisbane near the end of October 2008. I will be 6 months pregnant by then! We're looking for a short-term rental that's not too expensive until we find a long-term rental in an area we like once we get there. Does anyone know of any short-term rentals that won't break the bank? Can you also advise on areas of Brisbane that are worth considering for our more permanent rental? How long is a standard rental period? Can this be broken with a months notice etc? We plan to buy once my husband is well settled in work etc. Also, we've heard its pretty hard to find furnished rentals - is this the case in your experience? Can you generally buy furniture etc and get it delivered straight away or it there a waiting time until you receive them? We really are pretty open to any advice on areas at this point but would like to have reasonably easy access to the coast as my husband is very keen to get a little boat for fishing! Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

    Accommodation, North Ryde, Sydney

Hi there, not sure if I've put this in the right sub folder, so if not, apologies! When my family and I arrive in Oz, to gain my licence to work as a telecomms engineer, I will need to enrol on a 10 day course which only seems to run in Talavera Road, in the North Ryde area. Could anyone suggest some reasonably priced hotels or b&b or similar? I have had a quick trawl through the internet, and the prices seem to vary greatly, so any suggestions appreciated! Thanks Ted
  11. Ok we got the visa, now the hard part begins! Apologies in advance if I am posting this in the wrong section, i am sure Gill will move it to the correct forum We are looking to move to Adelaide in approximately 3-4 months, currently doing the paperwork for our cat so we can book her into the Melbourne quarantine station. We are not selling our flat in London so our move is thankfully not dependent on the sale of a house. Our intention is to stay at short term accommodation for a month or so whilst we look for a longer term rental. Are there any good estate agents / websites we can browse for this type of short term lets?? Dont even know where to start!? Also heard you can apply for a government subsidised basic accommodation, if anyone has any info on that it would be really appreciated! oh my god it feels so real all of a sudden!!!
  12. We have some last minute vacancies available for rental accommodation in Melbourne. If anyone is coming over in June/July and hasn't managed to get themselves accommodation please feel free to pm me. Kate
  13. Hi everyone Our visas should be ready in 4 to 6 weeks. Hoping to be in Perth November latest. I really don't fancy unloading all of our stuff to have to do it all again when we find somewhere to live. Any recommendations on holiday or short-term furnished lets would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
  14. We fly to Oz in just over 3 weeks time and are yet to find anywhere to stay when we arrive. The only website I can manage to find which has possible places to stay is Kate's moving to Melbourne' site however, al the properties which are within our budget are already bookied! I know we have left it very late to book and didnt realise it would be this difficult! Does anyone know of any other websites similar to Kates which might have short term accom available? Thanks

    Accommodation for validation trip

We are finally in the process of booking our flights for 1st May, for a short validation trip to Victoria. It has been rather tight to find the flight money as ideally we would like to be doing a one way trip, but can't with house not selling. As there are 6 of us we are thinking about where to stay, i have been checking out caravan parks or what are peoples views on motor homes. Like i say it is a trip which we cannot afford to make, so money really is tight. What are the facilities like for motor homes are there proper pull ins what accommodate motor homes. We went to France several years ago, and whilst we slept we got robbed of all our stuff, which included money, credit cards, shoes and our clothes, very scary, but at least we were all ok. Also what are the most important things to do and see, my children are 11,9,5 and 2 so really need to cater for them as well as ourselves. Thanks for any input on this subject Tania X:idea:
  16. Hi Our offer of a large 6 bedroomed , 5 bathroomed house in Montrose (Eastern Surburbs) of Melbourne has been accepted so it looks as though it is going to happen. It is a two storey house and would suit a whole family that could rent/lodge the upstairs. The kitchen downstairs would be shared. I just wanted to 'put the feelers' out to see if anyone was interested before I officially advertised it. We have not decided on a date to move in yet but possibly one month to three depending on the vendor. (it is now 10th March) We are flexible. The only problem is that is needs decorating throughout as it has disgusting navy blue walls everywhere! As long as this is acceptable then all is good! Anyone vaguely interested??
  17. Hi.... Student Accommodation in Melbourne

Hi We have had quite a few enquiries in regards to student accommodation in Melbourne on a budget. Today, I have spoken with Student Housing Australia who have given the ok for students to organise a rental before they arrive in Melbourne and also on some properties they are willing to do a 6 month lease instead of the 12 month lease. Rentals start from $185 per week for a studio. Remember this accommodation is only for full time students but the accommodation is very central and will hopefully be of use to some fellow PIO members. To find out further information or look at the properties available go to their website at; SHA - Student Housing Australia Kate:wubclub:
  19. We have a 3 bedroom house available for short term rental for those interested in having a look at the Mornington Peninsula. The house is located 5 minutes walk from McCrae beach (voted the best family beach on the Peninsula) and shopping plaza. McCrae is located 15 minutes drive south of Mornington. A weeks rent is set at $700 although cheaper rates can be negotiated for longer stays. A 6 month lease can also be arranged. This a fully furnished house, fully enclosed and family friendly. Pictures and details can be sent on request. All enquiries welcome AJB:spinny:
  20. Hi, can anyone advise where we can rent a property for a couple of weeks with a dog. We're moving to Adelaide next month and want to rent short term until we get a feel for the areas. Also any advice on areas would be welcome... my husband will be working at Queen Elizabeth hospital, we'd like somewhere nice but not too far from there if possible. I have a 6 week old baby and am keen to meet people and new mums, any good play groups, coffee morning groups you could recommend? Thanks, Rachael
  21. I have a lovely house to rent in Coes Creek which is between Nambour and Woombye. It is new, modern and spacious and has nice bush views up to the Hinterland ranges from the front veranda. It has three bedrooms (all large) and the main bedroom has a dream ensuite bathroom with spa bath, twin sinks and separate toilet. The main bathroom also has a lovely deep bath! There is a huge room downstairs which we use as a media room and study but could make a great games room and would easily accomodate a pool table or table tennis table. This area has its own kitchenette. It has a lovely modern kitchen and family fridge already in place. I am looking for a good tenant who will look after our property.
  22. Just wanted to recommend some accommodation in Shenton Park, Perth. http://www.shortrentalperth.com We spent 2 weeks in the apartment and it is really nice, very clean and has suited our requirements perfectly. The photos on website don't do the apartment justice. It has a shared pool and laundry, shady parking space and within easy walking distance of a small supermarket and a bus stop. Bus takes approx 10 mins into the city centre. Hope this is of help to some of you

  24. Hi Guys, We hopefully will move into rented accommodation within the next month as we should complete on our house. I was just wondering what happens to council tax when you rent ? and if you only sign a rental for 6 months do the council have to take account of that ? - Hopefully its an easy question for those who have done this already.
  25. Hello all, I know this is yet again a question that everyone asks but I really don't know what to do? Our visa (myself and my partner) has now been granted and we plan to leave for Sydney in March but I haven't a clue where we are going to live! I have a job ready to start in Darlinghurst but there is no accommodation available. We do want to rent a property once we have had chance to look round all the areas in Sydney at the moment I am clueless on where to rent? we also need to plan the cheaper option so it doesn't eat away at our small budget. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!
