  1. First post so hi to everyone and am so glad i found this site> Any help most grateful!! I have been and seen a solicitor and they have advised me to go and see about the normal things that you have to do prior to living in a new place eg register my son with a school dentist, doctor etc... As i need to prove that this will be a better life for my child. We are hoping to move to Corrimal and have checked out there website etc... but still not found any links to help me get any further. We are not planning to move until August 08 whivh i feel makes it even more difficult as no one will take us on the regsiter yet. If any one has ever had to do the same would love to know. Spending hours on the net!! Thanks Shaz

  4. Hey, I would appreciate any advice on the following: I am applying for a de facto visa now (August 09) but I really want to travel back to the UK at Christmas with my partner for a family christmas. I understand that on a bridging visa A I cannot travel - does anyone know how easy it is to get a bridging visa B whilst you are awaiting a decision for a defacto?? My reasons for travel would be a family christmas - my sister is travelling around the world but has made plans to be there too and my 94 year old Grandma who is very frail ... Has anyone done this? Ideally I want to book flights asap. Thank you in advance!! Est x
  5. Hi guys Im new to this site, have been looking across the web for a site to get some advice on a visa issue. I entered Australia on a Working Holiday visa from the UK on 12 Aug 2008. Just before this visa expired a few days ago, I went to my local Dept of Immigration in Adelaide and lodged a 'Application for Further Stay as a Visitor' (601) visa application - however I received the news Weds morning that this had been rejected due to lack of exceptional circumstances. I now have until 19 Aug 09 to withdraw this application and then I automatically go onto the 28 days bridging visa. Therefore, I am thinking of going overseas on holiday in this time and applying for the ETourist visa while im away, in order to try and be granted the extra 3 months in Australia I would like. Was just wondering if anyone had any experience in a similar situation? As I am worried that I will go abroad, apply and what if it gets rejected? Was also wondering if the ETourist is the right visa to go for, looks more appropriate than the ETA visa as you can apply for the ETourist online? Cheers guys, if anyone has any info or advice I'd Really appreciate it. Matt

  9. We are still in UK but when we move OH will still be in the same job. He works in Africa and works 28 days away and 28 days home. There will also be days he will be travelling there and back - usually 2 there and 2 back. This means that he is out of the country a lot more than he is living there. Does anyone know what his Tax situation would be? Just now he does self assesment and pays Tax once a year. I have been on the ATO site but couldnt find an answer only about Tax agreements with other countries. Many thanks if you can help with info. Mandy

  14. My husband works in the oil industry and would not necessarily be working in Oz when we move over there. He is going on a perm spouse visa. If he works in another country and pays their tax, how does that stand in Oz with regard to medicare, school fees, family benefit etc and anything to do with the government. Mandy

  16. Hi there I'm a journalist and I'm looking for people to conduct short interviews with who have had their UK debit or credit cards either stopped, blocked or swallowed while travelling abroad. It doesn't matter whether this happened in Australia, or somewhere else. I'm looking to find out how it affected your trip, and how easy it was for you to get the situation rectified with your bank. The story is for a British financial magazine. If you're interested in telling me your story, please PM me. Thanks very much Joanne Joanne Christie - Home
  17. DO YOU KNOW OF ANY BRITS WHO ARE CONSIDERING RETURNING TO THE UK? ITV1 are making a new documentary series about British Ex-Pats who are considering moving back to the UK. We’re keen to hear from Brits who have lived abroad for years without (or very rarely) visiting home, but who are now thinking about returning permanently to Britain. Perhaps you miss your family and friends, maybe schooling is a problem for your kids, or you simply yearn to step back into British culture. We'll help you explore the reality of coming home, and prepare you for deciding whether to stay abroad or return to your roots. If this sounds like you, or if you know anyone who might be interested, please contact Amy Robbins as soon as possible by email: amy.robbins@fevermedia.com Or call (+44) 020 7697 1425.
  18. So blue today.... anyone who doesn't know we are waiting and waiting and waiting for our 'certifcates of good conduct' from Qatar.... and 2 dead lines which our case officer gave us have come and the last one is about to go.... I spoke to the embassy again yesterday and as usual i was brushed aside and told oh at least another 3 months..... Spoke to our agents and was advised to write a letter to our case officer with all the details and proof that we have done as much as we can to get these stupid checks.... which we have done with every scrap of evidence including cheque stubs, royal mail receipts, and letters etc and these have now gone off to oz.... our agents say that may be and it is only a may be, our visa will be granted as we have shown to have done all we could to get the checks... so my question is... has anyone heard of a visa being granted like this or are our hopes being raised for no reason? min x:wubclub:
  19. Hi there, We have applied for our skills visa (in the beginning of May) and hopefully will hear back from them in the next few weeks, fingers crossed!!:v_SPIN: I know that once you get your police checks and medicals done, you only have 12 months to get into Aus to validate the visa. I lived in South Africa for a few years in the last 10 years so will need to get a police check from there. As I am British and live in the UK now, I will need a police check from here too. Does the 12 month rule only apply to police checks obtained from the country where you currently live, or to all the police checks you need to apply for? I.e if I get my SA police check back before my UK police check, will my 12 month period start then? Everything takes long in South Africa so was hoping to get a head start on my police check from there!! Many thanks Hayley and Dave - off to Melbourne, HOPEFULLY!!!
  20. Hi! Hope someone can help. We lived in the British Virgin Islands for 2 years 2000-2002. Will we need to obtain police clearance from there aswell as the UK? It's just that I know how slowly things work out there, and if I am going to need them I shall have to start now or it could be 2010 before we get them!!!! Thanks as always for all advice! 23. Hi all, Howz it going? Allow me to be the first to wish you all a Merry Christmas and best wishes for the new year. Just wanted to know if anyone can give me advice on sending text messages to Australia from abroad? Currently form UK it costs me 20p per message to send from my handset to Australia. I have tried a couple of free sms sites, but they either limit the message or include their advertisements in the message or the messages just don't get there or there is just a thousand popups from each page!!! With the festive season around the corner and so many friends to wish well I need a reliable service. Thanks for your recommendations in advance Leurelle
