  1. From the research we have done we are looking at 189, 190 or 489 visas. My wife is currently an English secondary school teacher in the UK. She has a Masters Degree, her PGCE and is now working full time but doesnt have three years experience. She has 25 points due to age (36) Through online points calculator my wife has 40 points (age 25, education 15) and has booked up the IELTS course which we believe will provide another 20 (at least is should with a Masters in English...and it will if is has to be retaken!). I am now under the impression that 60 points is no longer enough for a 189 but if we opt for 190 or 489 we would gain the extra 5 points through state sponsorship. My wife has a sister who is a permanent resident living in central Perth so I dont know if that will give us another angle in. I run my own tiling installation company and have done so on a self employed basis for the last 6/7 years. My practical skills in these areas are minimal as I project manage so I am not sure if I qualify for skills assessment as a wall and floor tiler which I believe would get another 5 points. If the assessment is on paper i'll pass, if its practical I wont!! Our aim to is to get this through ASAP due to our ages (36 and 37) so we are not concerned which visa we get including if it means going regional. I would also be interested if there is a visa option I have missed and/or if there is a quicker way of getting across. Permanent residency is the end goal so any visa that we get initially would need to allow for this. I'm of the impression that using an agent would be beneficial in cutting down on time with regards submitting paperwork correctly, would you agree? Sorry if this is a bit long but some advice would be great!
  2. Hello all, Currently, I am holding subclass 489 visa and, staying and working at the designated area as per the visa requirement. Due to work requirements, I went overseas for 3 months. Now, I am wondering that before applying for 887 permanent visas, should I stay back another 3 months or travel for work purpose includes in 2 years requirement. If anyone know, please help me on this issue. Thank you in advance.
  3. I have now completed my 2 years on State Sponsored 489 Visa (Visa is 4 yrs long) in SA and happy to stay here. I'd like to apply for PR and from the homeaffairs.gov.au website I know it will cost $385 for me and $195 for spouse. Now, the only route I can see after this is via 887 PR visa, and it seems to cost $3755 for me and $1875 for spouse. Is this right? We already spent quite a bit getting the 489, doesn't seem right to now spend another $6310 for PR. Any advice greatly received.

    Case office assigned Tasmania 489

Hi All I recently received email saying that Case office was assigned to my case for 489 visa Al though my Job code is not in State list but its in consolidated list . What should i expect next ? I have 75 points with State sponsorship Thanks
  5. Hi there, Next year we will (hopefully) be receiving our 489 visa for SA. I came to Aus on a 457 visa a few years ago and worked Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) in Queensland. Made redundant we've returned to the UK and have just receives the invitation to apply for the 489 skilled state nominated visa. My wife is the lead applicant for this. I have read the limitations for the 489 and they indicate that we will be expected/limited to working in the rural area (in this case anywhere in SA) with this visa. So here is the question. If I work for a company whose Head Quarters are based in SA, but I work in both SA and say WA and or QLD in the field, would this be acceptable do you think? My wife would not be 'bending' the visa location rules and would likely be fulfilling the intended economic invitation to work and settle in SA. Thanks for your time and input on this subject.
  6. Hi Guys, Well by God's grace things seem to be progressing well and hopefully if we clear our Health Check then we seem to inch closer in acquiring a 489 Visa and considering it would take 5 to 6 months i.e. May - June we should have our visa in our hand. If things go as per plan then we intend doing our landing in Sept - Oct 2018 but I have many queries on how to go about it? We are a family of 4 (2 children aged 9 and 4) which suburb in Adelaide do we decide to live in and what should be the criteria while choosing a suburb ? (close proximity to the city, schools, public transport etc) considering that there wont be any income when we reach, what is the monthly outgoing should we expect? We plan to rent 2 bedroom apartment / house. can my children get admissions in a government school? ( i know it wont be free as I am on a 489 visa) and what would the fee structure be like? (Grade 6 and Grade 1) what is the best way to scout for jobs? appreciate if anyone can share a template of CV's that are normally followed. are rental properties normally furnished or unfurnished? can we get a short term rental where we can be flexible to move out once we decide on the suburb we want to live in? I would also appreciate any additional info that you think can be useful, like from your own experiences, lessons learnt, do's and don'ts etc. Thank you. KPG

What would you do 482 or 489?

Hi all, As you can see from my title my wife and I are a little stumped of the best way to move forward. To give a little background we are looking to emigrate to Queensland and open to where we live my trade is a Diesel Mechanic and I currently have 55 points, we are looking at a 2 options at the moment: Option 1 - 489 Visa - with the additional points given by the state we would have 65 in total.... This is also based on the English and Trade Test results if all goes well and then submit our EOI, if we are lucky to get picked then apply for a Visa and take it from there. Option 2- 482 - TSS - (I currently have a opportunity with a employer waiting in the wings) My current skill set is on the medium/long term and if all goes well after 3 years with this company and if they are willing and able we can apply for PR. I would be keen to see what others would do in this situation.

    visa refusal

I got my visa refusal few days back... the reason for refusal is that the case officer is not satisfied with employment experience I provided. I am wondering although assessing authority approved my work experience and give me 7.5 yrs equivalent work exp, they did not consider it then whats the point of assessment? Is there any way to appeal for this?
  11. Hello everyone I applied for Tasmania state sponsorship subclass 190 in June. On July 25th, I received an email from Tasmania state department, saying that they will be sponsoring my subclass 190 application. Moments later, I received another email with the title "Decision on your application". In this email they confirmed that I will receive an invitation form SkillSelect for subclass 190. However, when invitation arrived on the same date from SkillSelect, it was for subclass 489. Now I am confused. Is it a mistake, or the applicants who receive Tasmania state sponsorship only get subclass 489 invites? Shall I contact Tasmania and SkillSelect to get further clarification? Please help.

    What would you do...

What would you do; I was offered a job sponsorship under a 482/TSS visa back in April, the company have various locations and it took a while but they nailed down a location and put me in touch with their location managers. Bear in mind this is all while i'm in the UK waiting on news...They then tweaked things three times so despite still wanting to put me in NNSW/South QL i got changed to three different potential locations and three different managers, all of whom were awful at communication. Anyway, the communication was few and far between and then complete radio silence - it was absolutely gutting. Then, after about 6 weeks of silence the person that recruited me called with a massive apology and saying they've had a lot of issues with area managers and visa changes affecting where they can send me and they offered me Adelaide, Townsille or Cairns. The day before they called we went ahead and paid a retainer to a migration agent to start a 489 process for NT as my girlfriend's job is on the list. I've now had another call after emailing to say i preferred Townsville. The call was the company saying they can get the ball rolling with a 482 for Townsville if i want it. SO the dilemma is; 482 in Townsville meaning that in 6 months we can apply for a 190 in QL should her job stay on their 'on shore list' or stick with the 489 for NT and forget the sponsors because of how they've messed me around. I'm really stuck because my heart says sack off the job but my head says it's a way in to the country and a 190 in QL, a 489 in NT means we'd have to live there and we never visited NT and it's clear that it isn't the easiest place to settle and find work.

    489 SA Application

I have been trying to fill the SA nomination form for 489 online, cant seem to enter employment details. Anyone else facing the same problem??
  16. Hello All. I hope someone can help me answer this question. While trying to apply for SS for SA, the only option I have to submit my commitment to SA statement is a 500 character limit on their form. This doesn't allow me to show the level of research I have done on why I am choosing SA. My question was whether I will be asked to submit the normally accepted 2-pager highlighting all the points why I have chosen SA? Should I expect SA to ask me for this later? In the meantime, I'm going to continue waiting with bated breath for my job code to open up on July 1st!

    Multiple visa application dilemma

Hi, I'm in a bit of a dilemma and I'm seeking advice. I've lodged my EOI for 489 visa, family sponsored. Me as a main applicant and my fiancee as a dependent one. As per current trends and a fact that I have only 60 points I don't see that going through any time soon. Now, we are thinking about changing our tactic. We are thinking about applying for a student visa (500) with my fiancee as a main applicant and me as a dependent one. Once there, she'll get Au education which will contribute to the overall score and I'll increase my English score. After that, we update our EIO or lodge a new one (for 489 or 189). The thing that worries me is how does all this look in the eyes of an immigration officer. They will undoubtedly see that we tried to get the 489 first and after realising that it will take too long (or fall through) switched visas. Bottom line is, will applying for visa 500 automatically disqualify us from the visa process? Looking forward to your suggestions. Cheers, Earlene
  18. Hi All, Could anyone advise on which one is the better option...... success/processing time/priority etc? I'm looking at Queensland and my brother lives there so family sponsorship is an option but wanted to know if they give priority for one over the other. If anyone has any experience or knows of the pro's and con's I would love to hear them. Cheers Gordon
  19. As it says: https://migration.qld.gov.au/latest-news/bsmq-update-qsol-finance-manager-cafe-restaurant-manager/ Any migration agents here? I just would like to know, as your estimation, do you think any possibility that Skilled Migration in QLD will issue more invitation for this occupation? As far as I know, they will revise the occupation list every 6 months.
  20. Hi guys, i have a plan A and plan B, both have been discussed on here. Now there's also potentially a back up plan. In 2002 i passed a Btec National Diploma in Hospitality and Catering Management and then i was a chef for 12 years. Thing is it's been over 4 years since i was a chef so i wondered if this would affect an assessment. I've asked the migration agent who has been advising me at OE (that we're highly likely to be using, i think it's @Richard Gregan who heads up that agency and he's been great too, calling my fiancee and leaving a message on Friday) and i'm waiting on a reply. I could potentially use my career as a chef to obtain a visa and get back in the kitchen! Any advice on this would be welcomed. Thanks, Lewis

    Tasmania 489 visa: Duration

Has anyone recently applied for a gotten a state sponsorship from Tasmania? How long does it take nowadays? The Tassie website states 20 days in one place. However, another place states upto 2 months for the state to reach a decision. Also, how would I know what the current DIBP processing times are? When will I be assigned a CO? Does the process actually take lesser than the stipulated 13 months? Thanks!

  23. Hi guys. I've posted here a few times before explaining our situation so hopefully those in the know may have seen my posts! Basically we are in England, not even applied yet but very close to starting the process and my gf/wife by August has been in touch with vets in Adelaide/SA who can offer sponsorship through the TSS visa. She is a vet nurse (29) and i'm a care home manager (33). Vet nurse is currently on the short term list so we can only get a temporary 2 year visa if we go down the TSS route. Advice needed - While on the TSS visa, are we allowed to apply for a longer term visa such as a 489? Or are we just a bit better off going through the rigmarole of the 489 now and paying for the skills assessment etc as she has more than enough points. Then when we're in Aus our only major visa worry will be the 887 after 2 years to apply for PR. Thanks! PS - my job is on the medium list but i don't have enough points so TSS through me is our other option as that could be a 4 year visa which i believe can be transformed to something more long term after 2 years? Yes? No?

    489 Working from home?

Thanks for reading this post, I am desperately tying to find out the answer to this and my agent is unsure. We are hoping to move to SA this year and have applied for a Skilled - Regional (Subclass 489) (Provisional). I currently work for a global financial company and my current job, although based in the UK - requires time to support many countries. my question is: if I was to continue working in this job but be based from my new home (in an acceptable regional postcode in SA) for the 2 years. Would it satisfy the requirements of the 489 visa? any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you
