  1. Hello everyone, I have a quick question. I had my de-facto spouse visa granted last September and myself and my aussie partner (I'm english) came back to live in Melbourne in October 2008. We plan to stay until (hopefully!) my permanant visa is granted which I think is two years after initial entry, so around October 2010 I guess. What happens if we then decide to go back to London for a while? Will this affect my permanant Australian Visa? Our plan is basically to wait it out, get my perm visa then go back to the UK, probably for 5-10 years. What happens to the status of my visa - do I actually have to be living here in Australia to keep it valid?:goofy: Any help or info appreciated. Thanks, Claire

Studying on a spouse 309 visa

Hi, We have been out here since the end of January on a spouse 309 visa and I have been looking into doing a teacher training course. Would I still be classed as an international student until I get the second part of the visa or because I'm living here would I be able to get it as an Australian student? There is no way we'd be able to afford for me to be able to study if we had to pay international fees so I'd be grateful for any advice! Thanks!
  3. Hi new to forum and had a search around about this. I live with my Australian partner and recently got engaged (27.01.09) after being in a relationship for 2 years. We moved in together (30.11.08) and realise we will need to live together for 12 months. My question is if we leave in Dec 09 to travel for 3 months before arriving in Oz will it affect our application if we submit (subclass 309) it just before leaving the country? Also would the visa likely be approved within 3 months? Thanks in advance for any useful info.
  4. Hey everyone, Just wanted to let you all know our visa has been granted!!!! Still hasn't sunk in yet - just returned from a weekend in Rome, checked the email and there it was!!! It took a while, we thought we front loaded everything and had thought of everything needed but had to send in some more info, then we had a change of case officer which delayed it even more, then our new c/o was off ill and then away over the Christmas break so we had been wondering if it was ever going to happen but it finally did!!! Yay so excited!!! :jiggy:

June 18th 2008 - Request for further docs & form 80 July 2nd 2008 - Granted subclass 309 Provisional Spouse Visa! That's 3 weeks from day of posting to it being granted - and I don't think that would have happened without following advice from you guys! cheers!!! 6. Does anyone know how long does it take the Austrlian embassy to validate my passport in London once the Visa approval is received? I have not got the approval yet... just need to know a time length to schedule some travelling. Thanks a lot in advance!
  7. Does anyone know approximately at what stage of the Spouse Visa application do the case worker usually call for interview? The reason I'm asking is that my partner and I plan to travel outside UK after we send out the application package (together with police check and health check front-loaded). However I am quite concerned about them asking us in for interview. Do you usually let you know quite soon after the case worker starts on your case? Or are they quite random? I'm chinese passport holder, and my finance is Australian. Thanks again. =)

  9. I have just arrived in Australia having been granted a subclass 309 Provisional Spouse Visa. My partner has a car and i have been driving around the area and decided that i should get a full NSW licence. I have a full UK licence and therefore just wanted to transfer it over. When i went to the RTA to apply for my licence they told me that i would have to wait for 6 months before applying for a NSW licence due to the fact that my Visa is classed as temporary. Under NSW rules, a visitor can drive on a foreign licence for 3 months but then i will have to stop driving and wait another 3 months before i can apply for a NSW licence. Does this seem right or am i missing something? Personally, i think that yes my visa is temporary for 2 years until they grant my permanent Spouse Visa, but my intentions are to live in Australia for ever and therefore the temporary part is a bit misleading! Any help or advice would be greatly appriciated:emoticon-signxmas: Tim

    Help with form 80!!

Hello, We have been asked to submit form 80 in order to complete the subclass 309 application - and are struggling - (I am the Aus citizen, my partner UK) he has to list exact dates for every time he has travelled within the last 10 years - does anyone know if this includes EU travel for UK citizens? As it is not stamped in his passport he really doesn't know how to get the information required - for example he knows he went to Venice, Paris and Amsterdam last year but has no idea of exact dates!! Especially as 10 years back takes him to 14 - how is he possibly going to remember exact dates of travel at 18?! Am also wondering whe it asks about have you, or anyone included this form had a conviction, or been found guilty of etc - I have had a driving offence that went to court a few years back, am I included on the form (as the sponser) or is it just referring to any dependants that may be on there? Does anyone know if it's a good or bad sign if they ask for this form? Thanks!!
  11. A bit confused what the difference is as i thought there was only one spouse visa
  12. Ive noticed that a lot of people on here are going over to oz on a skilled indipendant or sponsored visa and on average it is taking you approx 6 months from application to visa grant. I am planning to go over to oz with fiance you is australian so I will apply for a sub class 309 temporary visa which will cover me for 2 years, then I can apply for a permanant one after that. I am just wondering if anyone else has gone over or is applying for one of these types of visas and how long it will take from application to visa gran. Cheers Mark:smile:
  13. Hi there, Just applying for my spouse visa which will, more than likely, be the temporary one. Just a couple of questions I hope people can answer. Many of the teaching jobs in The Courier Mail say open to permanent residents only. Does this mean I would be blocked from applying for them or are they distinguishing between migrant and holiday visas? Secondly, many people talk about extra baggage allowances when emigrating. Are these still applicable on a temp visa, or does it have to be perm?
