  1. Hi Lucia, keen to see how it is going for you. Have you progressed or made any further decisions? I feel ( and was dreading) I was heading in the same direction, and would be stuck here, but luckily my partner is keen to return home also.
  2. it has been great reading these posts, but I can see how hard it is and how people are feeling like they are "stuck in paradise". I can see how it is hard to shake a negative feeling about the place also. - The last two years have , with the border issues have only made me, and possibly others, really think about home and family even more so. . I did feel stuck , but now we have made the choice to go home, the feeling has lifted and I am making the most of things in Perth. I love the weather here, have some great friends (mostly expats) but miss so many things about the UK, as well as family and good friends who i am still in regular contact with. We have been here from about 9 years, loved it at first, wife and I have good jobs, but we also left a good life in the UK, good mates and both have big families . Since we came, we started a family , have no family here, built our house, started a business, sp it has gone well for us, but we also feel bored, hate the politics, lack of culture, difficulty and cost of travel. We are going back in about 16 months - kids are young and so will adapt, I hope!! Luckily my spouse is open / keen to going back - so we are just looking at our time in Perth as a fun adventure and now on to the next. I am so glad, I can't wait to get back! We know it will be different to before, but we are older (possibly wiser :) , and our priorities are now our family. Back to the main point though. It is very hard to discuss with people here, especially in Perth where you have a lot of brits who are very negative about the Uk - mostly just repeating Daily Mail stories about immigration etc. I sometimes feel that some of our expat mates here are indeed stuck in paradise and would love to go home if they could. We are off though and I can't wait!!
  3. Yeah - we had no idea there were a lot of brits here before we moved. We wanted to live abroad for a year, chose Aus and then explored job options - both got offers pretty quickly here. My wife had previously lived in Sydney for a number of years, so we wanted to try a new place. We also chose Perth as, after living in London, we wanted to avoid another large city. Don't get me wrong, Perth is a nice place, but after 10 years, we want other things in life.
  4. Good points- we are from Leicestershire and Essex, but after uni had moved to London- spent ten years there. I loved it, but we wanted a change for a couple of years (turned into 9). Possibly looking at Leicestershire or Essex. We are in a fortunate position as we have our own company (operates globally), so we can move it anywhere. The last two years have made us want to go home even more. It’s not just seeing family, I’ve found it really divisive as to peoples attitudes toward the borders opening etc. I feel like the reasons we left /came are no longer there and we are just drifting along in life and in all honesty, are a little bored of Perth . Looking forward to new challenges, being able to travel again, shows, the countryside, the humour.
  5. It has been great reading peoples stories here - I came across the thread and can relate to a lot of people here. Been here for 10years and have my aussie passport, but can not wait to go back to the UK and set up there. We moved to Perth and built a house after about 16 months, but house prices fell and we just decided to stay and make the most of it. Luckily my partner and I had decent jobs and some good friends (mostly brits), so we decided to just crack on and make the most if it. My partner settled quickly, but I have never loved the place. We lived in London previously and so do miss the culture, and family amongst many other things. The whole covid situation has made us realise that we both want to move home, and so are now putting the plans in place - we are both really excited and can't wait. How much as I do love Perth and the weather, we are a little bored of the place, miss family and the abilty to travel. We have young kids and so we are just really looking forward to the next adventure and moving back to the UK.
