  1. Hi all, this is my 1st post on this great forum, although I've been searching posts for a while! I'm Carl, 38, from Manchester. Really hoping to get some advice on obtaining an electrical OSTR. It seems most sparkies do this during the VISA application process, or shortly after arriving in Australia. I've been living in Brisbane permanently since early 2018. I was granted a 189 visa due to experience as an Electrical Engineering Tech. I have been working in automation engineering (PLC's, drive systems, etc) in Brisbane for the last 2.5 years. My new employers have asked if I could get an electrical license, as I worked as an electrician back in England from 1999 - 2017. I checked the Vetassess website and to get the OTSR you need to have been working as sparkie for 12 months of the last 3 years. When I called Vetassess to explain the situation, the lady I talked to said "just provide any evidence of electrical related duties you have performed since you got here". This just doesn't seem right to me! Basically, I'm a former sparkie who wants to get back into the trade but haven't done proper sparkie work for nearly 3 years. Do I have any chance of getting an electrical OSTR??? Thanks for reading this post and for any advice. Have a good one, Carl.
