  1. Thank you for your replies. Yes, it has been exhausting, I'm looking forward to stopping and settling! Great to hear about the online chat assistant, I'll give it a go. Many thanks again
  2. Hi all I've moved back and forth between Sydney and the UK a bit and am about to return to the UK in February. I will only have been here for 9 months this time and so have had my ToR application rejected for the first time. I've tried to have it reconsidered but it's not happening. I was wondering if anyone knows how much tax would be paid on a usual personal effects move, or how it's calculated? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hi Marisa, thanks for your response and apologies for the slow reply! Thank you for your insights and perspective on this, it's great to look at it all from new angles. Interesting reading about the buying/rental value, yes, seems like renters do have a better deal now. I guess it depends on so many factors and personal circumstances but, even since I first posted that, I can see that for me it is going to be more expensive if I stay in the UK. So am looking forward to coming home to Sydney soon.
  4. Good point, I hadn't thought of that. Somewhere in the middle I guess, I'm in Wiltshire.
  5. Interested to know what the current view on general cost of living and cost of running a business is in Sydney, compared to the UK. I know it depends on an individual's circumstances but for someone with a straightforward setup (self-employed, single, in 50s, renter), I'm thinking now that Sydney is better. For years people have been saying Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world but, having lived in both places, I seem to be able to live more comfortably in Sydney. Am I unusual or has anyone else found this too? Maybe recent changes (energy prices etc) change views on this? I know people are talking about food prices increasing a lot in Sydney but they are in the UK too. Any thoughts?
  6. I just moved my savings over to Aus (moving back before the end of the year), knowing that it's not a good time but I thought it may be better than say six months time, when things are forecast to be pretty tough in the UK with the energy bills and cost of living etc (which will be worse than in Sydney). What do you think, does that kind of thing not weigh on the pound?
  7. Great, will give these a try too, thank you!
  8. Thanks! I'll definitely be having a chat with the pharmacist. Glad they worked for your kids
  9. Thanks so much, Quoll! I will be trying these for sure. You might just have transformed my long haul travel which I dread usually.
  10. Hi there, I have two questions... I'm returning to live in Sydney in April and wondered if the Heathrow-Perth (-Sydney) flight is available at the moment? It appears to be bookable on the Qantas website but I recently read that it's not available due to the strict borders in WA. I flew Singapore last time and they were fantastic, perhaps I should go with them again. Like many I'm sure, I'm nervous about losing money from Covid related cancelled flights too. Any opinions on airlines would also be appreciated. Also any tips on travel sickness? I was sick 17 times (sorry if anyone is eating right now) on the way back to the UK last year and it happens on every long haul flight, utter hell. I drink tons of water, avoid alcohol, don't eat too much but... I haven't tried travel sickness tablets — has anyone found them to work? Thanks in advance for any thoughts. Happy New Year to all!
