  1. Having read your posts it seems to be more about making sure they find the right school. That’s what I do here they both go to separate primary schools and although a logistical nightmare it’s better for them personally. I suppose I’m just a bit nervous, I liked my school experience, I went through all the ups and downs but they seemed to have a bad experience at the beginning and it made me worry. But now they’re fine. Moving school is probably more anxiety provoking for me than them.
  2. Thanks for your reply. It’s very thought provoking. The working thing isn’t an issue because me and my husband work shifts and school doesn’t help us at all, I think we could continue to work opposite each other. I definitely think the key is structure and planning I suppose as well as the execution of it all.
  3. Hi everyone. i have been thinking about homeschooling for a while and then we were Thrust into this new way of life where there was no other option. I’m typing on an iPad so excuse the odd bit of bad grammar. here are my list of pros.. No bullying 1-1 attention tailored learning more relaxed perceived cons... lack of social interaction lack of education Does anyone actually homeschool and what’s it like? Or maybe some of you were homeschooled? My youngest daughter goes to a small school with only 35 pupils because she really wasn’t handling the bigger school. That is not going to be an option in Australia so I’m seriously considering getting into the whole thing. There seems to be a lot more resources and info in Australia online anyway and groups on Facebook.

Thanks everyone I suspected it was a lot of rubbish but I had to ask.

    Nasty rumour

I heard a terrible rumour that if you leave Australia as a naturalised citizen you have to return within 10 years or you lose your citizenship. Has anyone heard this, I can’t find any evidence online to say it’s true"?
  6. We are going to Hervey Bay as that’s where the inlaws live and can get to see their son and the grandkids again. i am a nurse so I should get a job ok. He is a mechanic but has been working in oil and gas for the past 8 years. its a bit risky.. but we live in a really small town here only about 20,000 and we have jobs, so fingers crossed.
  7. We are on isolation just now and thought I could do nothing until I started some enquires, some companies will still quote you, some won’t. we have changed our moving timeline from 2.5 years to 1 year. We have gotten quotes to move our furniture so we can plan. We are getting quotes to transport our dog. This is where it gets exciting. We have been looking at houses online....with pools. I never had a pool before I would like a pool for my children. I kind of thought I might enjoy isolating better with a pool, if you were allowed to use your pool. we have changed our destination from Brisbane to.....Hervey Bay. Anyone got any thoughts on that?
  8. That's all pretty helpful thanks folks
  9. Just clarifying, having done a bit of googling. Do you pay $41 for each prescription medication? Is it the same for kids? Thanks in advance
  10. I suppose I never thought about it. Maybe some homeopathic or natural stuff for dogs? You could try it for a while before see how the dog reacts, not to sedate just anti anxiety.
  11. Surely you can get some medication from the vet if they are that anxious?
  12. hi Lee we went with All Creatures Air Road I can'y remember the route but it only took him a day. I think the company were ok but the crate he arrived in was a bit tatty so I sent them an email and never heard back. Don't know if that's an issue or not
  13. I was worried about my dog but he made it back fine. I would think it would be better to have a crate that fits the dog rather than bigger.

    Flood areas

Hello all, I've been searching the net looking for a website to tell me how to find out flood zones in QLD. I did find this https://floodcheck.information.qld.gov.au/ but everywhere I look at seems to have bright blue on it. I don't know what that means. Anyone know how to find out what the flood zones are before finding out for real. Thanks B x
  15. Hi, we would like to go hervey Bay but my husband believes it's a no go for work so we're heading closer to Brisbane. His parents live in HB so that would be more handy. Can I ask what you do there?
  16. Its been about 8 years. I must admit I do all my shopping at aldi and I freak out if I have to go to tesco so the groceries might surprise me. I forgot about rates, I'll think about that too.
  17. I was just about to do a pro and cons list but I got kind of stuck, I've been up all day from the night shift and my brain's not working so I thought you'd be a great source of ideas if you'd like to help me. So I kind of liked the food in Australia so I would rate the food as better. My hubby says the cars are miles more expensive in Australia for higher mileage too, not gonna stop us moving but just something to budget for. The weather - where we are going to live will be hot and humid in summer and pretty warm the rest of the time. I would class that as better than where we are just now but then in Australia there are much higher risks like bushfires and weather extremes. Where I live it's pretty much cold a lot of the year but we are generally safe. Jobs - I previously had a much better job in my industry in Australia than in the UK so jobs Australia is a pro for me, for the hubby it's a bit unsure. What other things do you think are better/worse?
  18. I'm pretty sure I wasn't allowed nail polish perfumes stuff like that
  19. My oldest daughter is going to be 11_12 when we leave we're doing it before High school so there are no romantic involvement to worry about. My youngest will be 9-10. They know we used to live there so I don't think it will be much of a shock and their dad (my husband) is a kiwi so they know his origins are far away. Thank you for your advice.
  20. Just wondering, if you have a few years. Did you talk about it with the children as soon as you knew you were going to go or when you have say six months left?
  21. Hello All, As I am relocating back to Oz with children this time, I was looking for some advice. My children started school early in the UK at 4.5 (which I regret but cannot seem to be undone). So I was wondering when the children get to Australia do they have to start school straight away? I was also wondering what is the age for starting school in Australia. Also wondering about private schools, I vaguely remember my Australian friend sending her children to private school as I believe this is much more viable in Australia than in the UK. Thanks in advance. Bx
  22. Yes I suppose that would be true many people may regret not using an agent.
  23. I've applied for and got permanent residency, citizenship, a spouse visa so yes it's hard but it can be done. I can't believe you accused me of trolling.
  24. You don't need one they cost thousands. Just have confidence in yourself it's just a form.
