We’ve moved from Victoria to Yorkshire; our new address is RICHMOND Lane and the next street over is CARLTON Terrace. I reckon there must have been an Aussie influence in the naming.

Yes, we’ve ordered a Bosch lawnmower and just received an estimated delivery date of September 16th. Going to rethink….

I’ve found fruit and veg cheaper in England and there are lots of offers in supermarkets which reduce the shopping bill; one quiche is £3 but buy two and it’s £5 etc. Biscuits and cakes are much cheaper which is not a good thing! I used to think cheese was more expensive here but in fact mature cheddar and Leicester are half the price they are in Oz.

Just heard on the radio the England team members are donating their wages to the NHS….

Fabulous atmosphere in England at the moment……..everyone humming « it’s coming home » and cars driving around with the English flag hanging out the windows!

Hi Lee,
We got 3 quotes and chose the middle one as they seemed the most professional. We moved (are moving) with Palmers. Your quote for 30 foot is what we paid for a part load of 26 cubic metres so I’d say that’s cheap but we were in Victoria so that might influence the price. Our furniture was uploaded on March 15th and we were given an estimate of 10 - 16 weeks which suited us fine as we weren’t returning to the UK until May 1st. However, the date has been put back several times. The latest info is our container is due to leave on June 20th arriving on July 29th! Our house sale goes through on June 29th so we shall be camping for at least a month.🥲
Good luck

Hi Dan,
We have just returned to the UK after 15 years in Australia. I know there will be times when I’ll be “homesick” for Oz just as I missed England when I was in Australia. We lived in Bendigo and if you’re looking to move out of Melbourne I can thoroughly recommend it. You’ll find house prices much more affordable, and it actually has history, being one of the gold towns. We made lots of friends there even though we were in our fifties when we migrated.

Just to add to what’s been posted, you can only apply for exemption within 2 months of wanting to leave.

I suppose it depends what time you get up and go to bed. Light mornings do encourage you to get up earlier.

Seriously, what’s not to like about extra hours of daylight to enjoy outdoors?

Really?

Long summer days?! - it's summer here 9 months a year!
…but it’s not light at 10pm in Oz- 1

What I can’t understand is why 20 degrees in Yorkshire is so much warmer than 20 degrees in Victoria!

Central heating radiators and airing cupboards.

Certainly coffee. You might be able to get good coffee in London but here in Yorkshire it’s dreadful. They insist on serving latte in a huge glass which reminds me of what you used to get ice cream sundaes in. Even if you ask for double or treble shot it doesn’t compare to coffees in Oz.

I was in the same position as Loopylu, having to fill in a passenger locator form to show where I would be staying and provide the proof of the 2 Covid tests. As far as I recall the only people allowed directly into the UK were those from the Isle of Man, Channel Islands and bizarrely Myanmar! We had a visit from a NHS track and trace official on day 5 who asked for our passports to confirm who we said we were. He did say the visits were very random. In one case he had to check on 2 people who were actually in a group of 4 but his brief was just to check the 2 on his list!

I think the army are testing rather than vaccinating. The second dose is being brought forward from 12 weeks to 8 weeks so I shall be getting mine in 4 weeks.
-
69% of adults have received their first dose and 38% of adults are fully vaccinated. I haven’t seen any news on the the army being deployed to vaccinate - there’s an army of volunteers.

I was surprised to see how strictly rules on mask wearing are followed here in Doncaster. It’s obligatory on public transport and in shops but there are lots of people who wear them outside. I’ve only been out of isolation 3 days but loving being back!

It’s a good idea to get evidence of no claims on your car insurance as some insurers will take it into account. We had some exorbitant quotes after 15 years away and no credit history. AliQ advised me to contact NFU and they were happy to accept our Australian no claims, saving us hundreds of pounds.
