Went shopping this evening and got marooned in Asda as the heavens opened

Because it rains so rarely in Australia perhaps they thought they didn’t need to mention the fact they might leak

Things I’d forgotten about the UK...

Think it changed in 2018 and it’s supposed to benefit the customer as when the tax was transferred with the car, dealers would add that onto the price without telling the customer. -

Steep learning curve….we bought a car and asked for delivery on June 30th. We then had to transfer the road tax from the garage to us and discovered that, unlike Australian tax, it is dated from the first of the month regardless of the actual date taxed. We effectively lost one month’s road tax. -

Yes there was an inventory. I didn’t mean to suggest it was a surprise that curtains etc had been taken. I’d just forgotten that was the norm in the UK. -

I can’t complain on that front as our house was left spotless but I just wonder if the curtains and curtain rails fit the house the previous owners have moved to. We will be living in a goldfish bowl until I can organise someone to measure and make new ones. -
It was free to air in England! Excellent match

Apologies to my husband, it wasn’t a kaftan, it was a sarong à la David Beckham!!

Getting the keys to our new house back in Yorkshire today. I’d forgotten that in the UK EVERYTHING is taken when you move house, curtains, curtain rails, lamp shades….. -
A kaftan…and I thought my husband was the only one ….

Standing ovation at the opening day of Wimbledon for Dame Sarah Gilbert who headed the Oxford team working on the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine.
-
Both husband and I (well over 60) felt under the weather after our first AZ vaccination and it lasted for a couple of days. However, we had no reaction at all after the second, not even a sore arm. It seems to be the other way round with Pfizer.

It has been decided to use the Greek alphabet to name the Covid variants. This is to avoid the stigma…so Kent became Alpha, South African Beta, Brazilian Gamma, and Indian Delta..

Just got an email to confirm our furniture is in a container which left Melbourne yesterday - exactly 14 weeks after we waved it goodbye🥲 Should arrive end of July, one month after we get the keys to our new house
-
So…..4 million doses of AstraZeneca and 4 people still in intensive care.

Shipping container for our move home
Cup Final 1973 replied to Lee Blowers's topic in Shipping and Removals
Hi Lee, We got 3 quotes and chose the middle one as they seemed the most professional. We moved (are moving) with Palmers. Your quote for 30 foot is what we paid for a part load of 26 cubic metres so I’d say that’s cheap but we were in Victoria so that might influence the price. Our furniture was uploaded on March 15th and we were given an estimate of 10 - 16 weeks which suited us fine as we weren’t returning to the UK until May 1st. However, the date has been put back several times. The latest info is our container is due to leave on June 20th arriving on July 29th! Our house sale goes through on June 29th so we shall be camping for at least a month.🥲 Good luck -
Perhaps that Oxford University is not involved in the manufacture…..

As we had the first AZ dose in Oz and the second in England I could probably make a case for the English version being superior, given we had no reaction to that one What do you think? Sound feasible?
-
I think the dropping of Oxford from Oxford AstraZeneca is simply because it’s too unwieldy. It’s mostly referred to as AZ. The top scientists from Oxford University who were involved in the research were honoured in the Queen’s birthday honours so it doesn’t sound as though the government wants to disown the connection. Feeling good after second dose of AZ. Both OH and I had reaction after first jab but absolutely fine after the second.
-
The public in Australia presumably? I had my second dose of AstraZeneca last night and the queues were huge. I think back to this time last year with hundreds dying each day and the world praying for a vaccine. Fast forward and you’re talking of banning one because of the risk of a blood clot which it has been stated time after time is statistically less than the risk of taking the contraception pill. By all means, you choose a different vaccine and hope you don’t catch Covid in the meantime but don’t talk of banning a very effective vaccine.

Remember when you thought 50 was really old?
-
How can you say AZ should be discontinued parley3? It’s saved countless lives all over the world and the makers are not making huge profits.

Hi Dan, We have just returned to the UK after 15 years in Australia. I know there will be times when I’ll be “homesick” for Oz just as I missed England when I was in Australia. We lived in Bendigo and if you’re looking to move out of Melbourne I can thoroughly recommend it. You’ll find house prices much more affordable, and it actually has history, being one of the gold towns. We made lots of friends there even though we were in our fifties when we migrated.

You’ve made my day Simmo

British farmers worried about the pesticides allowed in Australia but banned in the UK.
