  1. How do you know if you’ve been assigned a case officer? We applied 3rd March with full documentation supplied and haven’t heard anything. 4 and a half months now. Very frustrating
  2. Thanks Alan. That’s really useful and I think I now understand how the UK CGT liability works. Could there be a tax liability to pay to the Australian authorities too? How does this work? Thanks for you help.
  3. Thanks Ken. I think we have to get a retrospective valuation as at April 2015, rather than a valuation at the date we become non-residents? Is that correct?
  4. My husband and I have been planning to move to Melbourne with our children. All was going well - job secured, hoping to hear back on visa 189 any day now, schools sorted, but now we have found out about NRCGT! I read other posts that said no one pays it, it’s just an accounting exercise but how true is this?! We did a self-build house and even after accounting for the build costs, the uplift in value has been quite significant. We had planned to rent the house out for a couple of years and then sell if we’re settled in Aus. But now we feel our only options are either to forget moving or sell before we go, which we really don’t want to do. Is there any way of avoiding this potentially massive tax bill?!! Any advice very welcome. We feel like the rug has been pulled from under us and all our plans and hopes may have been for nothing. Thank you
  5. My husband, children and I are hoping to make the move to Melbourne before the end of the year and are starting to think about potential suburbs to live it. Schools for our 7 and 9 year olds are massive factor for us. Which suburb can offer us the best in terms of schools, parks, beach, commute to CBD and general lifestyle? And affordability! We visited Brighton last year and loved it, but haven’t been to Williamstown. Any thoughts on how they compare? I’m also trying to think about secondary schools as it will come round quickly for my oldest. Thanks!
  6. Thank you - that’s useful to know. We would ideally like to be in walking distance to the beach, so we’ve been looking at Williamstown High School - is this generally considered to be a good school in nice suburb? The results are good as far as I can tell. Is it a nice place to live? Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks
  7. It is definitely one of the documents I need to upload. But still unsure about format and how clear the scan needs to be? Any suggestions very welcome!
  8. I am in the process of uploading documents for skilled visa 189 application. I need to upload photos for myself, husband and two children. We’ve all had passport sized photos taken and printed at a local shop. Now what do I do? I don’t have the digital images. I have tried taking a photo of the photos on my phone, and scanning them in, but when I crop them down the image quality isn’t great. And I’m worried they’ll get rejected. Any pointers?! Many thanks!
  9. Thanks for your advice. Really appreciated. We were in Melbourne over Christmas and absolutely loved Albert Park which I know has a very good secondary school, but property isn’t cheap! We also really liked Brighton. Do you know if Brighton Secondary College is a good school? I’m very confused by all the different rankings and results! Thanks
  10. Thinking of moving to Melbourne with my husband and two children. The kids are still in primary school but we want to choose a suburb that has a really good secondary school, for when the time comes. Any advice?! I’m getting a bit overwhelmed by trying to look at VCE results, NAPLAN etc! We want to be within 30 mins of the CBD and close to the beach. Not being able to find a suitable suburb, where we can afford a nice home could be a deal breaker Any advice very welcome!! Thank you
