  1. So basically you pay tax twice??
  2. Has anyone still got rental property in the uk? Wanting to understand how the tax works on that. Do I pay tax for the income I receive from rental income to the UK or do I have to declare it in oz and pay tax for it in oz only? thanks. Will be about £750/ month income from rental property.
  3. Hi Andy, appreciate your help. Aus salary will be roughly $100000 for husband and $40000 for me. I am 35 years old. Husband has 22 years NI contributions in UK. I have 15 years NI contributions. Husband pays annually about £5000 into his pension and has been paying in for 14 years. Happy to use the comfortable retirement benchmark. Thank you
  4. That makes sense, thank you! Your very knowledgable, it’s incredibly helpful!
  5. Do you mean the Aussie state pension? You get that at 65 is that right? I would presume he wouldn’t get the full amount as not worked his full life there. I know he gets his up state pension too I think. So if he gets a combination of partial police pension, super fund, Australia old aged pension and uk stare pension should be good enough? Unless I’m dreaming thT he would be entitled to all that!
  6. Thank you I believe the police pension gives him a tax free lump sum, then pays a monthly figure until death. I’ll see if I can check out some super calculators. Thank you
  7. Just after a bit of general advice, if you started a superfund from scratch aged 40 in Australia would it be financially manageable  to retire aged 60? Or would the amount in the fund be negligible? Would be on a 6 figure salary paying 11% into the super fund.

My husband would have a frozen police pension in theUK that he paid into for 14 years so would get that paid at age 60 also.

just trying to work out whether we would be better off in retirement here in the uk or Australia. Don’t wasn’t to move if going to be much worse off in Australia.

  8. Thank you everyone for your massive help. At least I know now he will have to freeze his police pension, he’s been paying into it for 14 years. If he stayed in the job he would be able to retire at 56, but by leaving and freezing it he would access it at 60. If you started a super fund in oz from age 40 would retiring at age 60 give you much at all or a negligible amount? Would be on a 6 figure salary, 11% super. Cause he would get his police pension from the UK at age 60 too. So would get the super and the police. Or would he have to work till 65? Trying to see whether we’d be better off in retirement staying in uk or going to oz. don’t want to move if it’s going to make us much worse off! Thanks
  9. Thanks everyone for your responses it’s been a huge help!

Thanks everyone, just need to get my head out of thinking she would be going backwards. I’m sure the school syllabus is different than in the uk.
  11. I’m an Australian citizen, my husband is British. We live in the uk and my son was born in the uk. He has a British passport. We are thinking of moving to oz in the future and will need to sort our sons citizenship and passport out. To get his citizenship by descent will I need to register his birth in Australia?? Or will his British birth certificate be ok? I will be applying for citizenship by descendent at London house and then getting passport for Australia.

  14. Thanks for your reply. I’m Australian and visit very often, so quite happy that we know what it’ll be like. As it’s a police government pension they will want to know when we leave what to do with it. Frustrating
  15. When you say you qualify to get the 100 after the 309 do you mean within matter of days/ weeks or after 2 years? Sorry it’s all so confusing

Thank you for your reply. They have uk version of prep called foundation, but they start when they are 4 years old. Don’t really want her to have to go back a year. May need to contact the schools direct and see what they recommend. Thanks
  17. We will be living in my parents house so housing no issue for us for a while.
  18. Thank you, just trying to think of everything I need to look into before we make the final decision to definitely move. Appreciate your quick reply
  19. Thank you so much for your advice and recommendation. I’ll take it onboard. So daunting as just don’t know where to start!
  20. Thanks for your reply. Is that QROPS fund that will accept Brit police pension? As there are loads of QROPS funds in oz that show up on the HMRC site. We only need 1 fund that will accept his police pension so fingers crossed! Thanks
  21. Thanks, I’m hoping to sort of bypass the 309 and get the 100 straight away before leaving the UK. Got loads of evidence to support the 100 so fingers crossed!

My daughter is Australian citizen living in the uk currently. She will be 9 on 11th August. In the UK she is due to start year 5 in September 2019. Would she be ok to start year 5 in Australia in January 2020? Or would they put her into year 4?
  23. I am Australian citizen and my husband is British. I have lived in the UK for 16 years and my husband and I have been married for 10 years, together for 17 years. We have 2 kids aged 8 and 5. Has anyone successfully been granted a 100 visa straight away without the 309 first? I am trying to get the PR for husbands work purposes before we move to oz. thanks x
