Hi Guys, Just had my interview this morning. Finally got it out the way! My interview took 3 hrs - felt like 10 minutes! Its a Skype conversation where you are presented a slide show of about 50 pages and each page you go through answering questions or explaining how you fix something on the units covered in the first stage. You do not have to go into great depths. For example the automatic gearbox section they wanted to know the servicing side of it rather than going into depth on how it actually works. points you should make sure you know (most you will know anyway): Measuring equipment (vernier calliper, micrometer and dial gauge for disc run out) Know all settings on the multi meter including what m and M means on them etc. all the sensors affecting the engine. they gave me a diagram of the starting system and i had to link the points up with wires. types of bearing (big end bearing, ball bearing) charcoal canister is worth having a read up on. EGR valve. One thing i didn't know was what head gaskets are made out of. Never thought of finding out and never been told. (cooper, tin) There was obviously more to go through but it was all pretty straight forward. hope this helps and you don't all worry about it as much as i did as its not worth it. migrate_canada - i went through the vetassess for trade occupation and once you completed stage one which is making sure you've worked as a mechanic and qualified in England (certs, references etc) you get put through to stage two which is a technical or practical interview. Lavers - yeah i guess so but i was more on about the depth in which you have to go etc . Just wanted more of an idea of what to expect. PS - have my interview tomorrow and i will update this thread with what actually happens once I've done it, as no one has really covered it before. cheers.

Hi Gary, Thanks for getting back to me mate i really appreciate it. yeah likewise i have not really worked on autos so ill try and touch up on it as much as i can. The fact you say there not trying to catch you out or anything makes me feel a bit better. Had this idea it would be real intense and having not touched a car in a few years it would go horribly wrong! Other than youtube did you find any other website to use to revise? all the ones i find are tailored to getting a job so they train you answers for why you would be good for the role etc. again much appreciated. Hi all, OK first post... hopefully someone can help me out and maybe put my mind at rest (or not). Im a mechanic, 26, with qualifications and experience (carried out apprenticeship with VW), i gained my qualifications 7 years ago. Im applying for permanent residency soon and my main concern is with the vetassess interview via video call, i would really like to hear from people that have experienced this part of the process. I know myself i'm capable of doing my job but with it being years ago that i was last trained, and often rarely encountering some of the aspects of what i was originally trained in day-to-day, i'm worried what they will ask me and whether i will have the correct answers for them to pass! I am worried mainly about questions on testing electronics, auto gearboxes... areas that i haven't had much to do with, things that i know i could repair but still i'm worried about answering questions on them. i have read a couple of threads on a similar topic but the only answers i came across was people saying 'don't worry, its not actually that bad'........... i'm still worrying! lol I guess i would love to hear from someone who has done the interview as part of there process and to explain what it was like in a bit more detail... Is it hard?! What sort of questions would they ask? How in-depth do they expect you to go? How would they ask them? Is it more of a conversation than a test? How long dose it take? How would you recommend i prepare? Im not trying to worry too much but it just feels to me like this would be the deal breaker of the whole application! If anyone feels like they could help me out, it would be much appreciated! Thanks, James.
