  1. Hi Samson, thanks so much! We will hopefully be PR... we sent off items and application for vetassess today! I feel suddenly nervous instead of impatient. I guess if I had a fully paid off car loan that would look better lol, than a brand new one so yes you make sense there! I'll just have to get an auld banger for the first year or so. Or rather my partner can. If I am driving my kid about I want something decent!!
  2. Hi All, we lived in Melbourne on 457 visas from 2011 to 2016, since returning to Ireland and having a baby. We are looking at moving back to Melbourne hopefully mid to late 2019, and I'm just wondering if any of you know how quick we might get a mortgage. I have checked my credit rating and it's very good, no outstanding or late payments etc. But I only have a cc with a low limit. My partner would be pretty much the same except for a higher cc limit, and I havent checked his so hoping his is excellent but probably not as we never had bill phones etc. Upon arrival we would of course be renting, start up utilities and perhaps get a new cc with a limit of about 10k. I might get a small loan to buy a more expensive/newer car. If my partner landed a perm job and I a maximum term position (the industry I would like to return to works on government contracts), do you think we would get approval within a year? Would I be better getting a perm job initially for the application then going for the job I really want? I'm not looking for a discussion on how much houses are in Melbourne, we are well aware of that. I just have no idea how long we will need to be working etc. Before we can get approval. Thanks!!
  3. That would be a plant based whole food diet then. Plenty of other benedits too...
  4. The one with the rainforest tree frog on it. 100% recycled and not bleached. Cheap as anything and soft.never clogs.
  5. Used TPG on NBN and bought the 3rd cheapest option which has great speeds...
  6. Totally agree Goofy. If I hadnt travelled i might have been content with my life here. Its not that bad, its just I know what else the world has to offer and I reckon Australia is where I am suited best. My partner on the other hand is a bit of a home bird but even he admits he is excited at the prospect of going back.
  7. I'm just interested in other's stories...
  8. Thanks ABG, that makes sense. A guaranteed invite would be great, we will definitely look into the 190. We wouldn't apply for EOI to any other state except Vic, and we have plenty of ties there.
  9. Thanks guys I appreciate your advice. Its a definite that we are going to for the PR, we have made up our minds. We are aware the rent prices have increased but in the area we were before it's affordable still. I would return to work there once established and childcare is found. There is a rebate as far as I am aware in Australia so with a reasonably priced care it would be ok to cover. I have the option of going back to an old employer/friend of mine where I was on a 3 figure package including car. My partner would be hoping to eventually get a set out position for a shopfitting company which could pay in the region of $75k+. I'm not worried about rent or a mortgage thete as we are ok not living so close to the city. Its not the same hete at all living away from the city. The commute is the same distance/time but the areas are sh1t. Nothing to do unless you drive to the city. Crap weather where it's too cold or wet to do anything fun. I'm not sure about rent in the UK but here in Ireland you could be looking at rent of €1500+ a month on a combined salary of about €75k... That with full-time childcare with no subsidy at all makes it really unaffordable and thats if you can find somewhere to rent. There is a total house shortage here. I guess my main question was has anyone done the same as we are planning and did it go as expected?
  10. Is it processed quicker? Its difficult to understand this from the visit Melbourne website... Also if we were eligible for fast tracked nomination due to recent 457 visa, does this mean the entire visa processing time or just the state nomination part? Its a but confusing.
  11. Ok so I was thinking a bit further out... From your list I would know to avoid Collingwood/Abbotsford, potentially avoid at Kilda too as it can be rough at night. Fitzroy and Brunswick are great for nightlife and chilling out during the day. Richmond is also nice (great Asian shops and restaurants) plus has IKEA. the only other one I know is Port Melbourne and its quiet enough there... Seems mainly residential and not as many eateries/ships etc as the others. For suggestions on meeting ppl, try a pottery course at Northcote pottery in Brunswick- They are fun, you really learn and you will meet new ppl in a good location. I found in Melbourne you meet new people everywhere, people are generally Very friendly, casual and easygoing and you wouldnt be long getting an invite out I'm sure! (Also I think wine and painting is a thing, try googling it?)
  12. Try Port Melbourne for somewhere to rent, St Kilda can be rough at night but its also fun. Seek.com.au for jobs or Indeed, google income tax Calculator Australia to get a simple calculation of take home pay. You could also look at Brighton which is a bit more boring on the East coast. Altona also has a beach and theres Wiliamstown too, both West Melbourne.
  13. We used to live near Essendon. Its reasonable rent and has great bars and restaurants. Beautiful river walk, close to the city and has a tram and trains. It has a DFO, and a La Manna supermarket (AMAZING) nearby in Airport West( 1 suburb up). We used to pay about $30 for a taxi home from either the city or the hot inner city suburbs like Brunswick, so that's also affordable.
