  1. The longer you are away, the more evidence is required of your links with Australia. Your situation is covered by information on the Department of Immigration web site at: https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/155-?modal=/visas/supporting/Pages/155/have-ties-of-benefit-to-Australia.aspx Hugh Wyndham Registered Migration Agent MARN 1280353
  2. The subclass 186 visa application should have included your partner. However, you can add your partner to the application provided you do so before the application is decided. It is best to do so carefully, but the regulations provide for this action specifically. If you wait until your 457 visa expires without including your partner in your 186 application, you partner will risk ending up without any visa. Hugh Wyndham Registered Migration Agent MARN1280353
  3. The instructions for Form 1229 include the following: You must attach to this form: • a certified copy of the child’s/children’s birth certificate(s), (if it is not already lodged with the application.); • a certified copy of the personal details page of the non-accompanying parent’s, or person(s) with parental responsibility’s passport, driver’s licence, National Identity Card (ID card) or birth certificate; and • a certified copy of any relevant evidence making you solely responsible for making decisions about where the child/children is/are to live (if applicable). This may help. Hugh Wyndham Registered Migration Agent MARN 1280353
  4. An appeal to the AAT need not be expensive. You can ask the Tribunal to waive half the review application fee. Are you still in time to ask for a review of the Departent's decision?
