  1. Hi fliss Yeah my agent mentioned it could happen but she said it’s worth a try , we are going to Darwin in the Northern Territory, where are you hoping to end up ? Have you got family in oz? I struggled with the speaking every time! It seems crazy as I’m a native English girl but I just froze and my nerves got the better of me, got 7 and above In the other modules every time! Anyways 3rd time lucky I passed.
  2. Aww thankyou, yes there’s me my husband and 2 kids, we originally tried for the 190 but there not giving them out for some reason, they offered us the 489, then you can apply for pr after 2 years if you have stuck to the condition of the 489 visa, I know it’s cost us a fortune but I’m hoping it’ll be worth every penny
  3. Hi fliss- I found it handy too , I think I had the results back in a couple of weeks, we are about to have our medicals next week , then fingers crossed they come back ok , that will be the last thing I hope, and yeah I just explained with hand gestures and talked it through step by step, I found the skills assessment easy it was the English test I struggled with , but got there in the end.what visa are you applying for? X
  4. Hi , I did my skills assessment at the beginning of the year , I got asked things about , the 3 different stages of hair growth, about primary and secondary colours, how to do graduated bob step by step , how I would do full head foils , how I would handle a complaint, how I work with someone’s face shape , shampoo massage techniques, sterilising equipment, how to do a men’s scissor over comb , stock take ....... all things you learn when you start hairdressing to be honest , I used my old theory books and there is a thread on here somewhere that people wrote down questions they’d been asked. That was very helpful
  5. Hi, I think a lot depends on what visa you are applying for, ? We have just had invitation for 489 visa to apply for nt (hairdresser) , originally wanted the 190 permanent visa, but it seems they aren’t giving many of these out at the moment, Great about the ielts [emoji1360] The skills assessment is pretty straightforward, but just adds to the waiting game! We are estimating that by the time we get the visa granted (that’s if we do, fingers crossed) and enter the country it will be 2 years of a job [emoji51]
  6. This is such a shame, [emoji22] is the 187 a employer sponsored visa? And are you onshore or offshore?
  7. Hi brills33, It really is a long wait isn’t it, what visa route are you going down and where are you heading in oz? And have you got kids ? We applied for a 190 but have recently just been offered the 489 instead, but hey it’s a offer we’re not refusing, so we have just got to wait for the grant now
  8. Thanks for your reply, we will certainly be having a good look around when we arrive, there looks to be some great places there, we will certainly make the best of it , if you go with a positive mind set , things seem a lot better
  9. Ahh that’s good to know, And great ! It’ll give us something to have a laugh about when we get the local paper, if you think of anything else that might be useful, don’t hesitate to message [emoji3]
  10. Great thanks for been so informative, will be looking into lagoons, and the wave pool as my kids will love this including hubby! The ocean is a no go for swimming isn’t with the box jelly fish? And odd croc I’ve heard [emoji51] Going out early with the kids for food and a few drinks suits us just fine, great will look into Callum bay, and the casino , we all like a good pizza! Very excited, it’s gonna be a adventure if anything! Thanks for all your helpful tips, much appreciated
  11. Oh yeah we’ve done loads of internet searching but having not been there I was hoping to get helpful tips off people who lived there, Not our first choice but it’s the only state/Territory sponsoring my trade so it’s our only choice if we want to make Australia home! And as part of the visa conditions we have to live here for 2 year minimum, and then can move anywhere we please!
  12. Hi Paul thanks for your helpful reply, we have been looking into different suburbs around the ocean , and Darwin, what don’t you like about Palmerston? Is it the people? Houses ? Yes heard about the wet and dry season , but hey ho beggars can’t be choosers Thanks again
  13. Yes done all that ! Sorry do you live in Darwin/ Northern Territory I take it ? Can you give any advice on my questions or have you just jumped on my post to be sarcastic I was asking questions and hoping people who are loving in parts of the Northern Territory would comment and give tips, as sitting behind a screen and doing research is very different compared to someone who can give helpful tips who is living there on a day to day basis
  14. We are going in on my skill not my husbands, but I was asking for my husband as he doesn’t like the thought of bern out of work for any length of time, of course we’ve looked on the job advertising sites but it’s a bit different than getting advice off people who are living there
  15. Well it can be for anywhere in the Northern Territory, we have been looking into Darwin in particular
  16. Hi We have just found out that we have been offered a 489 visa to live in the Northern Territory, can anyone share there experience of work, cost of living, primary schools, things to do for children (boys 8&10years) , the people, nice family safe suburbs, places to avoid ? Just anything that would be helpful in general , also husband is a ground worker/ machine operator, is there work around up there for this type of trade ? Thanks in advance for reply’s
  17. Thanks bob I’ve private messaged you
  18. And thanks for reply pat, interesting to know about the months of flying and thanks for break down of costs, it gives us something to work on
  19. Thanks for your reply cal, ours absolutely loves water so a paddle pool sounds useful, slightly nervous about the flight but there’s no other option as just can’t leave her
  20. Hi I’m trying to get a idea of how much in total it will be to ship our 3 year old English bulldog over from the uk, will probably be flying out of Manchester, so from start to finish- price to include vets, flight, quarantine etc, any answers will be greatly appreciated, Also has anyone brought a English bulldog over, ? If so how did it manage and how does it manage in the heat? Ours is pretty fit and healthy so been ok with our summer this year, we obviously don’t walk midday, we’ll normally go first thing before it’s to warm. Many thanks
  21. Well I’m not very experienced so can’t give much advice but we have just got to the point where we have submitted our eoi to the state that is sponsoring my trade (it’s not where we want to be but it’s a moral obligation to live in the state that sponsors you for at least 2 years) and it has taken the best part of 8 months to get here, their is so much information to get together it has been so stressful
  22. Hiya, I think you get offered state sponsorship depending if that state requires your skills, have you had a look if your trade is on the list for that state ? Then you have to to a skilled assessment before you apply for state sponsorship
