  2. I wanted to arrange the shipping myself but if your pet is not coming over directly (i.e having to transfer at another airport before arriving to Australia, then it is a mandatory requirement to use a shipping company. Im glad Ive used one. I would of been in alot of trouble and actually I think I got my moneys worth. They knew exactly who to contact to resolve the unforseen problems that arose on the date of travel to Australia!. Long story but put it this way, if I didnt use them, I would of had to start the entire process from scratch and my dog would of had to of been in a kennel in the UK for 6 months! Instead, because of how they resolved it, my dog was only delayed by an additional week, primarily due to the flights then anything else. You think its all straightforward till something goes wrong... I say, outsource to the experts...
  3. Screw politeness.. obviously you have been polite and it has not worked... Unfortunately some people just dont take the hint in which case, be direct and make him get the sense that he is not welcome.. If your wife feels unsafe and it affects how you go about your daily life, then rudeness may be necessary as you are the ones that suffer. Agencies are useless...in every shape or form. I dont know where you live, but I get the sense because there is such a massive demand for rentals in some of the main cities, if you move out, the agency doesnt care, theyll be able to find someone immediately so my personal advice is to take matters into your own hands. It may be awkward seeing him around afterwards but surely a better scenario than your current situation. Sent from my SM-G928F using PomsinOz mobile app
  4. Weve lived jn Bondi Junction for a few months now and cant seem to justify buying a car. We have done our apartment move using go get and used it every now and then for an hour here and there when we have a big shop and its been fab... trying to come up with reasons to buy a car but so far havent come up with any good ones. I definetly do not miss having to pay insurance, breakdown cover, rego etc...just not worth it. The only thing is I do miss the act of driving but happy to forgo the dy to day traffic. 5. I just brought my dog over , 12 year old small lab, cost in total gbp 5,500 including all vet bills, quarantine, transport to Melbourne and then from Melbourne to Sydney. Sent from my SM-G928F using PomsinOz mobile app
  6. To be honest, Ive been watching the free TV channels from a serviced apartment over the past few months and I think they are not that bad although my tastes are not really known as being refined. When I was unemployed and on a crappy weather day, I enjoyed nothing more than to watch some Cheers, Becker, McGyver or Mattlock. . I had Netflix but could never find anything to watch so I cancelled it. Sent from my SM-G928F using PomsinOz mobile app
  7. Hi everyone, Juat wondering what the extent of free channels do I get if I dont pay for any additional equipment besides a TV...At the moment I am only interested in having the standard free channels without paying for Foxtel (One, Abc, Sbs one, channel 9, 10 etc) do I need any additional equipment or is it a matter of just connecting the Television (brand new) to a plug in the wall? Thanks, Sent from my SM-G928F using PomsinOz mobile app
  8. I ended up going to Myer today, they had mad sales on today and ended up buying both...I'll figure out what works eventually Sent from my SM-G928F using PomsinOz mobile app
  9. Can someone please explain to me how the bedding works in Australia? I'm confused, should I be buying a 'quilt cover' a.k.a duvet cover as is in Europe or should I be buying a 'sheet set' and basically have a flat sheet under the duvet as is the bedding in North America? .. 10. Check out scanmypost.uk. Ive been using them for the past few months and they are brilliant. It only costs 9.99 per month for up to 40 scans. I get a notification in my email every time I get a mail. You do however need to first arrange seperately through UK mail to have your mail directed to them (youll be given a personal number). 12. During my property search, I only ruled out properties which specifically included 'no pets' in the description. I was very fortunate as I found a rental property within 3 days. Property is only about 4 years old in a Strata building. It ticked all the boxes and I thought that with all the people that showed up for the inspection, myself having a dog would have no chance, regardless of my viable financial situation or a great rental track record. When I showed up, not only did the existing tenant have a pup, a discussion with the rental agent and our shared love of dogs is what I think actually helped me get the property in the end. Don't be turned off by properties which specifically don't list 'pet friendly'. From experience, the ones that do are ones that are very low in demand (dumps!). I am an avid animal lover but am also a property owner with investments in other countries and I would not go out of my way to list that my property is pet friendly, even if my property was bullet proof. Not all animal lovers translate into responsible tenants. Tip before you start searching: Prepare a pet resume. It sounds silly but it can be very value adding. I had a one pager prepared for my dog which had a lovely picture, and it listed everything from her training, vaccinations and behavior. Even though I never had to show it, I have gone into detail with the rental agent, also mentioning that throughout my entire dogs life, she has always had a dog walker/ pet sitter Monday - Fridays while I am at work so she's never alone for more than 2-3 hours at a time which I think has helped. All the best in your rental search!
  13. you only need to change your licence if you are going to be a permanent resident. If you are on a temp visa, even a 457, you can continue to use your drivers licence. I had a UK one and am here on a 457 so didn't need to change it, but it makes things easier when you have one, especially when you are buying a vehicle - you can easily do all registrations online. Insurance premiums are lower and its just easier to have a valid Aussie ID so I don't need to walk around with my passport. I got a 5 year licence which cost $178, got a temporary paper one on the spot and the photo card arrived about 5 days later.
  14. I thought it was Kaufland that are entering Australia.... Kaufland is owned by the same company that owns Lidl. I loved Kaufland when I lived in Germany!
  15. Hi all, Just looking for some initial advice before I spend hours on the phone to immigration. I have a dual citizenship so two passports. As I have experienced delays with my 456 visa, I wanted to do some travelling beforehand and so have had to enter the country on a evisitor visa under passport A (also because immigration was giving me hassles with passport B). My 457 is however linked to passport B. I need to somehow show immigration that I left before the 3 month max period on passport A so I dont 'overstay' my visa but I dont want to just take a flight if its not necessary. Does anyone know if it is just possible to inform immigration of this? Thanks Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
