  1. Hi everyone, My husband and I were just wondering if there was an equivalent to Premium Bonds by NS&i over in aus ? Thank you
  2. Can’t believe it but we’ve been on this ride for 15 years ! Started with chats about a life by the sea and slowly built from there. now we have PR visas , sold house and flights booked . Quarantine here we come!
  3. Hi guys , we are PR visa holders and moving over in October. We are going to book our flights direct with airline but my query is who books the quarantine ? Can’t find out easily online . Thank you
  4. Hello, How soon after getting to aus were you all able to get car finance? Did they require proof of employment ? Or ask for bank statements etc ? Thank you Xx
  5. Really?? I heard bad things about drugs and crime ?
  6. Hi guys, We have premium bonds here for our children. I don’t know a lot about them, they were a gift. Does anyone have them in aus from the uk? Do I just change our address for them and it’s that simple?
  7. Problem is no one knows what the economy is going to do and how long do u put your life on hold for? We’ve been talking about this move for 14 years and now we were days away from buying flights. Kids ages are perfect but if we stay we have to put our son into a school here and the deadline has passed, I’ll need to return to work, and how long is the piece of String to get my house back on the market. If our buyers aren’t spooked we’ll continue as planned , quantas have said the following (post below) which is all we can go by. Our air bnb have said they’ll still have us if there’s availability. So. I think we just need to get there at this stage
  8. Hi all, over in the UK there is the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), up to £85,000 per person, per institution is now protected if a bank, building society or credit union goes bust. In other words, if the bank collapses, savers will get any money in these accounts up to £85,000 paid back in compensation. Is there an equivalent in Australia ?
  9. I’m also replying to another message on top of yours What type of visa have you got ? Even if it closes borders, I think they have to let residents in which is what we are. Our friends in Spain are still being allowed into food shops which I would imagine would continue all over the world because there’s a lot of elderly and disabled that dont access the internet . We’re in a tricky position because of our house. I’m expecting a recession after this and the value of our house could take a huge downturn and effect our life when we do get there. Plus I’m on maternity leave so I’d be forced back into work if we stay and my daughter into nursery when she’s very little. I agree it’s messy and costly but for us , that’s staying here too. I almost wish we had a rental to just hang on to. We can’t really stay with family due to our animals as well , they don’t like animals of any kind. For us the cost of staying put, is worse than going.
  10. Why wouldn’t they let you self-isolate ? I’d rather just get there and deal with the two weeks. Just gotta hope to actually get out
  11. Just not possible for us . We have to get our animals to the vets for their final stuff, work notices to see out
  12. So our house is due to exchange any day and then we are on 28 days to consolation. I’m so so scared that we won’t be able to fly by the time it’s all done. 2 kids and 3 animals. NZ closing borders , surely aus is next
  13. My OH, 2 kids and I are emigrating imminently, just waiting for house to exchange and complete!!! To begin with we will be a single income family as I will be settling the kids. My OH is a mechanical project manager so hopefully will find work. And I’m a special needs teacher when I return to work. We will be initially renting a Airbnb in Sydney’s northern beaches as we have spent a lot of time there during our previous visits and really like the vibe, amenities, eateries, shops and accessibility to beaches and Sydney. We are very much aware this is a costly place to live (especially on a single income) and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of places that have a similar vibe, eateries, schools, amenities, BEACH with good job prospects and a more affordable cost of renting on one salary? We visited Newcastle before, but unfortunately very briefly before we had to fly back to the UK. So only got to see a glimpse. But have heard a number of people talk about it. Any help much appreciated.

  15. I should add we are keeping the animals in kennels whilst in the air b&b
  16. We really value opinions for areas from Sydney up to Newcastle (we only stayed there for 1 night) and we stayed at Noah’s on the beach and then flew home the next day I’m a special needs teacher so eventually looking to get back to that. We are staying in northern beaches in air b&b when we first land and then hopefully use that first month to look for rentals ( we are coming with a dog and two cats *please no mention of whether or not this is a good idea as it’s happening* We really love the northern beaches, the look (plush green bear avalon) the vibe , eateries and amenities, beaches but Please give recommendation of anything that’s similar and we’ll be making sure we check it out. Really thankful lovely people xx
  17. We didn’t explore Newcastle much so not sure I could start there . I will definitely be working again at some point but maybe not for another year.
  18. He’s a mechanical project manager for domestic and commercial.
  19. Yes exactly . We were even told by an employment agency, not to bother applying for jobs until we know an arrival date because we’ll go to the bottom of a pile and won’t be looked at seriously.
  20. Hi We are heading to the northern beaches first, we like central coast too . Air b&b first and then a rental within the budget. We’ve never visited the rest of Australia but will take the time to do so but my son needs to start school in January next year so not a huge amount of time to look around
  21. Yes but I have a whole cupboard full here and we are shipping stuff anyway
  22. Hi all, We all have permanent visas and due to land in aus in May My sons passport was due to expire quite soon and as it is a child’s visa in his photo he was just a few months old I decided to get a new one sorted whilst still here and just update the details. I’ve just received his new passport yesterday and went online to log the change. It appeared to be simple but then it now says upload certified copy of passport . Once I do this , does anyone have a clue how long it’ll take for the visa to be on his new passport ? I’m worried that the box to click to suggest im finished uploading his new document is ‘submit application’. I really thought it would be as simple as updating new details without having to get new documents certified since we already have the visas approved .
