  1. Hi Cheryl which office will you be based at in Victoria ?
  2. Hiya, Initially I was going to refuse a 457 visa and wait to go over on the 189 visa, however the 189 visa processing time is about 8-9months and it was unlikely that the employer would hold the job that long. So I have accepted the 457 visa (refs and police check pending for job) and we are aiming to go over second week in January 2018 as the school start 1st February. I applied for AASW in June and again due to processing times this is unlikely to be completed until middle of November, so we are going to apply for the 189 before we leave and then once granted will just cancel the 457 out. I highly recommend that you sign up to Facebook page Social Workers Wanting OZ a few of us have recently done interviews and some waiting for them, its a vast forum of knowledge about visas, sponsorship, interviews etc The interview was late at night, it was a panel of three including an area and team manager. They were very friendly there were about 10 questions all together all related to the skills criteria on the job description there were no surprises in terms of questions. When is your interview? and which office? are you going through Mcarthur ?
  3. I have just completed the CP4 Advanced CP interview for Victoria and was successful , Louise7981 if I can be any help.
  4. Ahh thanks for that, I am also going for the 189 visa as I have small children, ahh well I will see what they say, we hope to be over in March 2018.
  5. OOOO whats the facebook sites? I haven't made any of them links yet (: It all helps
  6. Hi, I am in the same position as you I am currently in the process of having my skills assessed by AASW and I am also a CP Social Worker. I have friends in Victoria who are CP social workers and really enjoy it. I am heading to Victoria as I have family there and I know for most CP government jobs this is through a recruitment agency called Mcarthur in Melbourne. I have recently sent my resume off to them. In terms of jobs as a CP worker I really dont think you will struggle too much to get a job, I too would like a job before I leave UK hence why I have started the process with Mcarthur and hopefully something may come of that. Good Luck
  7. I sent my skills assessment 31st May 2017, they took payment immediately and then requested additional documentation, a CV ( i had forgot to put it in) , and placement details in work experience ( i left this blank as I though breakdown of course from uni was enough, it wasn't!), and my university had forgotten to tick a box and signature so had to get that signed. It took 11 days on each occasion for the documentation to arrive at destination in Oz that was using Royal Mail Tracker which is pretty useless really as it only tracks it to Heathrow sorting office ! I received an email on 11th July advising me that all documentation has now been received and that assessments are processed in chronological order of complete applications. The current queue for assessments is 16-18 weeks. Having spoken to friends over in oz who have been thru the same process they advise they received their assessment within about 6 weeks ! which would be great I am going to complete our police checks soon, ( these last 12 months) and also have printed off Form 80 for 189 visa to complete as again its a lot of information gathering and wanted to have as much as i could ready to upload when I complete the EOI. Hope this helps keep in touch its great to have someone going through similar process the waiting round and form filler is a killer !
  8. Hi there , I have completed the IELTS 6 months ago I bought the cambridge IELTS book it was helpful, I got 7.5 in R,W,L and 9 in S. (gutted as I needed 8 in all for superior for points) however used the IELTS for AASW skills assessment and have booked PTE test to try again for superior points for 189 visa. I found the listening was easy and speaking just asked you general questions again very easy The reading one was tricky, and writing I felt pushed for time to complete the task however there is plenty revision technique on Youtube I have chosen PTE test this time as this accepted for the 189 visa (it wasnt for AASW assessment) and i am hoping that this is a more favorable process. Practice and Practice you will nail it. Good Luck
  9. Hi Mcusken, I have not yet moved under as we held off to save money before applying, I have submitted my skills test and I am waiting to sit the PTE test in August as I did not get the superior points (needed for 189 visa) just the points needed for the skills assessment. We have saved just under the £20,000 AUD and I have family already there and some colleagues out there who completed this move with far less money but a job to go to on arrival. I think it will all work out and we will have enough to sustain us a couple of months there and I plan to be working within three weeks of being out there, we are hoping to fly in March 2018. Once I get the points needed in the English PTE test I can apply for visa. What are your plans ? have you started any process yet? We have not used a agent and are doing it ourselves so far has been fine no problems (:
  10. Hi, My partner and two children (under5) are hoping to be in Victoria, by the end of next year. I have completed my IELTS and have just sent off my AASW for Child Protection Social Worker and will be applying for 189 visa thereafter. I would be applying for a job application as soon as I am successfull in 189 and would be aiming to have a job lined up before we leave. (we are very flexible we dont have any ties to property) and only two mths notice needed in job. My question is that we would have roughly about £20000 AUD in savings to take with us and we have (£5000 GBP in savings in emergency flights home) money would this be enough to settle us in and set up accommodation (renting)? I would prefer to have a job before we arrive as I am the lead of the Visa and I will be main bread winner until we have settled into Victoria and then my partner will find work around the family needs. Any helpfull advice or tips would be welcome
  11. Thanks Jo, I have had a quick look at your website its exactly what I had been looking for as on a lot of the threads people talk about the importance of tailoring their resume for the Australian job market but then no one tells you how or what changes to do ! I will certainly be using your services once I have got the all important 189 under my belt !
  12. Thanks everyone, that has given me some reassurance !
  13. Hi, I am at the beginning of applying for a Skilled -Independant (Subclass 189) Visa , in order to qualify I need 20 points for IELTS to build my points to 65 ! Has anyone managed to get 8 in all four sections of the IELTS? I feel under pressure as if I do not succeed I will not have enough points so eveything is resting on me ! I have a Bachelor Degree but spelling was never my strong point and anything with an exam sends shivers down the spine haha anyone have any advice or experiances they could share about getting high marks . Thanks guys
  14. Thanks Pommie thats really helpfull !! I am sure I will be back with more questions at some point
