  1. So far so good, as mentioned above, she got an intern role in a local pharmacy within a week of arrival and just heard back from aphra stipulating 1 month supervised intern/pre registration/work before they will provide full registration, which is the minimum time and will be required to take both oral exams to by fully registered, this will vary case by case and based on her having 10 + years as a senior hospital clinical pharmacist in the UK
  2. She's adjusting to how the dispensing system works here and mentioned it will take 3 weeks to be back at the level she was in London. Colleagues are friendly but too busy to be chatting and everyone leaves at 6 on the dot. She is here as my dependent and i am here on a 189.
  3. My current situation similar to yours and me if its just you and the missus, AUD 3k per month is possible...but it depends on how luxurious you want to live, i am currently renting a studio in Sydney potts point for 300/w and been walking to work (35 mins), we don't own a car and we do most of our exploring on Sundays where transport fares are capped, though we are averaging close to 13k steps a day hehheh . Our set up cost was minimal as we bought stuff from K-mart/target and if you are smart with groceries shopping...you can eat well on 100-150 bucks a week (i do my woolies shopping at 10pm and buy reduced stuff...whole roast check for $2.25, whole sourdough bread from $6 to $1), it does require discipline but we are living on a cost base of low $2k a month
  4. Yeah, i did manage to get a few phone interviews in London for accountant roles in Perth but in the end had to change plans and move to Sydney where i got an offer whilst still in London. Suppose having no kids makes a difference as we can always up and move after we get the relevant oz experience.
  5. General update for would be pharmacists to OZ, missus just arrived last week and managed to secure an internship with a local chemist in the Sydney CBD, which she applied for via Seek just 2 weeks ago, although, they seems to have put a lot of weight on our rented location in their decision to hire her. Confusion now over the duration of her internship to gain full recognition as both the APC and PBA were both unable to ascertain the time she requires under stream B.
  6. yeah...that's our worry as well because that's akin to finding a job and we are heading to Perth early next year...not the rosiest for job hunters for the moment
  7. well, seems like the next step is to get any form of work and your new line manager will be your supervisor. The charter will then decide how long would be deemed relevant and also if you need to sit an oral exam after your supervised period. i would recommend doing past papers...just that the model answers are outdated, so don't get so hung up on them and just refer to the latest BNF for the correct answer..if that makes sense
  8. She found the calculation to be a breeze and somewhat managed to spot the essay topics correctly, so its the actual MCQ questions that she found somewhat tricky in terms of navigating through the PC and coupled with the fact that she only studied the BNF and not the OZ equivalent might contribute to her finding the MCQ hard. She also mentioned that the past papers were outdated in terms of being up to date with the BNF/OZ equivalent that led to some furious muttering as she was checking through her answers
  9. Missus just sat the paper last week, she was in full study mode for 4 weeks (no leave, just burnt midnight oil) and did all the past papers and mentioned that she thought the actual paper was still quite hard and kinda weird as its done on a computer so going back to previous questions was kinda awkward.. should be ok for 6 weeks i guess...
  10. Was terrible @ 2.5x gross for us as we were still in the UK while applying. Only thing to note is that you have to be physically in OZ to apply for the mortgage, unlike here in UK where it could be done 100% via phone.
  11. Hey mate, i obtained my OZ mortgage whilst a PR and still in London, nab used my current UK employment to calculate the mortgage LTV so you might need to find work in OZ first before they would consider lending if you are not applying while you are still in the uk
  12. heyo, another accountant here too :-) and sort of agree with the purchasing as buying at the exact minimum downturn in a cycle can prove tricky too..heck, we just purchase a place south of river and only planning to move in Mar 2018. Not saying that this for everyone, but it suits our circumstance.
  13. I think you still need to be assessed, my missus is dependent on me as the main applicant but still needs to sit an exam in the next month to be registered with the charter. She has been working in the hospital for 10 years plus and i think she whizzed though some of practice questions rather quickly. The deadline for the next sitting is closing soon so you might want to consider registering...not cheap thought, i believe she was moaning it was something like AUD1,700
  14. Hi Just remortgage your UK house with any UK bank to release equity, then apply for a mortgage with an Australian bank when you have the deposit? Unless i am missing something here..
  15. Hi, Purchased a house in Perth whilst still in London with NAB.
