  1. Hi, Just wondering if the visa process is likely to be delayed with the covid-19 crisis going on? Waiting for 801 to be granted and just wondering if it's likely to extend or decrease the wait time? Cheers, Emma
  2. Hi, I've just submitted my 801 application (second part of the partner visa) and have come to the uploading of documents section. When I applied for the first part there was a list there of the documents you needed, plus I think there was a check list on the immi website. However, now it's just blank under the documents and there is a link to the check list but I can't seem to find it. The link takes me to the info about the partner visa section on the immi website, but not an actual check list. Does anyone have access to this check list/have a comprehensive list of the docs they require? Thanks so much in advance, Emma
  3. Thanks Ali, 'people sick' is such a good way of describing the feeling! You're so right about feeling like you have two lives when your partner is a FIFO worker. The counsellor said the same thing yesterday actually. When he does come back, I do feel like it disrupts my routine and he solely wants to see me, which is fair enough but we have friends who would love to see him when he's home too! And you're right again when you say that our best friends are the history we share. I guess I should just allow over time for those friendships to develop into stronger bonds. One rule I am trying to live by lately is to be kind to myself and I think it applies here in that I'm doing all I can and it may just take a little time. It's not all going to fall into place overnight. You and the counsellor have helped me to hopefully see things from a different perspective. Thank you!
  4. I moved to Perth just over two years ago and just wondered how people go with being away from friends and family etc. I have a good life here, I have a job, amazing work colleagues who I see outside of work and consider friends, other friends, a good network and a lovely life style. I've joined various Meetups and have become a yes person to try and make new friends. However, I find myself struggling because although I have a good network of lovely friends, they're just not my BEST friends from back home. I know these kinds of friendships do take time but sometimes I just feel so lonely and feel as though something is missing from my life. My fiancé works FIFO and I struggle with this a lot. I have made my own life here in Perth but still find it hard with him being away and feeling isolated. Sometimes I feel so homesick I feel as though I want to move home but I know deep down that I don't really want that. I even went to see a counsellor yesterday to try and chat through my feelings as I feel I am starting to resent my fiancé for bringing me to Perth and then 'leaving me to go and work away'. I just wondered how people overcome these feelings of isolation and loneliness? I keep busy, I have hobbies as well as doing things for myself, like going for walks alone, but also with friends sometimes as well. I feel like I've run at opportunities with my arms open to meet people and make friends but still feel this overwhelming sense of loneliness. I feel like I do belong in Perth and feel like it is my home now. That was clear when the counsellor asked what I saw myself doing in twelve months time. When I finished describing what I hoped my life would look like, he asked where it was I saw all that happening.. The UK or Australia? I of course had envisioned the whole thing in Perth so that was a good sign for me. I don't want to move home but find it so incredibly hard being away. I imagine people do feel the same, just wondering how you deal with it? Side note: we have a cat and he really is my companion, so nice not to feel so lonely in the house, it's amazing how pets can do wonders for your mental health. Thanks so much for any advice.
  5. I lodged my onshore partner visa in November 2017 and was advised of the 20-24 month processing timeframe. I've just received notification to say my visa has been approved after only a few months! Very happy, did not expect it to be processed so quickly! Makes all the forms and evidence and everything all worthwhile, wahoo
  6. I should say as well that the certificate does say 'national police certificate' on it.
  7. Hello, I've recently obtained my police check for Australia and when I googled it, the link that came up was for police checks for my state (WA) so that's what I clicked on and ordered. Now I'm starting to think I should have ordered a national federal one... This is probably a stupid question but will the WA one just check police records in the state or is just conducted by them for the whole country? So what I'm asking is, will I need to get a national one as well? It might seem like an obvious question but I just want to be sure before I shell out more money to get it done again. Thanks, Emma
  8. Thank you! I'm going to take it as legitimate then. I've booked my medical and will sort out police checks later. Thank you for your help!
  9. Sorry, I should have said that we lodged our application onshore and I'm from the UK, so I wondered what the Embassy in Beirut had to do with my application - it just seemed a little odd.
  10. Sorry, completely forgot to mention that bit - we applied onshore and I'm from the UK, so I'm not sure what the Embassy in Beirut has to do with my application.

  12. Hello, I submitted my de facto visa in October and wasn't expecting to hear anything for a LONG time. I had an email the other day requesting me to get my police and medical checks done, but the letter was from the Australian Embassy of Beirut and I'm trying to work out of it's legitimate or not. It appears on my Immi account as an email in my correspondence inbox, but I'm just confused as to why someone in Beirut would be contacting me about my visa? It looks pretty legitimate to me, but I want to double check. Also would they be contacting me for my medical which will expire in a year, but they won't process my visa for 20 - 25 months? I've tried calling Immigation but their line is so busy, I was the 100th person in the queue and I had to get to work. Has anyone else had experience of this and could maybe set my mind at rest? Also, if I do need to do my medical and police checks, do I have a time limit to get them done? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I am very worried!
  13. Fair enough, thank you! I'm glad I asked as there's no point going to the trouble to submit anything if people think there's no need! We would love to get married out here in Australia but there's just sooooo many people that we'd love to come to our wedding so we've decided to get married in the UK in 2019. Not sure when yet though! ?
  14. Well no, it's not just that, it's about the fact that we are committed to each other enough to want to get married and spend the rest of our lives together, which is what they are looking to find out. I just wondered if they'd want to know
  15. Hello! Hope you all had a lovely and restful holiday break. My partner proposed to me a couple of days before Christmas so that's really exciting! We submitted our de facto visa in October and of course we haven't heard anything yet (but not expecting to for a long time!). Just wondering if I need to alert immigration to the fact we got engaged? It'll be great evidence for the visa I'm thinking! Obviously we have enough evidence anyway but just wondering if this will help support our case? Do I need to fill in a change of circumstances online or anything or is it not worth mentioning? Happy new year everyone! Emma
  16. Thank you for your response - I think I'll play it safe and wait until they ask me to get them done, really don't want to end up paying twice!
  17. Hi, Just want to clear something up - I had a look over the Partner Migration booklet last night and it says if you're applying for the 820 (onshore) partner visa then you should submit your police and medical checks with the application. I've been reading posts on this forum for the last year or so and everyone says you should wait until the case officer tells you to go and get the checks in case they expire, meaning you'd have to pay for them again. It gives the advice to wait to get the checks if you're applying offshore, but please could someone clarify for me if I need to submit a police and medical check when I submit the application for my 820 onshore partner visa? Thanks so much!
  18. I'm currently residing in Australia on a 417 Working Holiday Visa, which expires in December 2017. My partner and I are gathering all of our evidence for our Partner Visa (820) so that we can submit it in the next couple of weeks. I'm just waiting for my birth certificate to arrive from the UK and then we should be good to go. I'm hearing different things all the time about what happens after the visa is lodged, so just wanted some clarification if possible please. I know that a Bridging Visa A will be granted so that I can remain in the country whilst my visa is processing - will this come into effect when we lodge the application in a couple of weeks or when my current visa expires in December? Also what will my working rights be on this visa? I've read on these forums that you will have the same working rights as you had on your previous visa (on my WHV I can only work for the same company for a maximum of 6 months) but other people have said that you will have full working rights - please could someone tell me which one is true? My temp agency said something about asking immigration to lift the 6 month restriction if an employer wanted to keep you on when you're on your bridging visa. Is this true? I'm happy temping at the moment but it will be great to be able to say to a potential employer that I do have full working rights on my bridging visa if they did want to keep me on past the 6 months. Any help would be much appreciated.
  19. Hey everyone I've just moved to Perth a month ago and I am on a working holiday visa for now and then in a few months (when I have the money for the visa fees) I will apply for a partner visa as my partner is a citizen. In the meantime, I feel like I am struggling to find a job as I expect a lot of prospective employers don't want to know because of the 6 month work restriction on my visa. Does anyone have any tips or advice that someone on a working holiday visa could use when looking for applying for jobs? Do I need to do anything specific on my CV or cover letter to let them know that I'm not just a backpacker who's going to be leaving in a few months. Obviously we are settling here now and if I could just get an interview to explain the situation that would be great. I'm not hearing back from anything and I'm not being fussy - I'm literally willing to do any job for now just to get some money in but not sure where I seem to be going wrong. I'm just getting a bit disheartened that I am struggling because I am not a resident and therefore do not have full working rights at the moment. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated. Would love to start my application for the partner visa right now but money is the biggest issue. Need to wait until I've saved the money up before I can even go down that route! As I say I will literally do anything right now, including bar and restaurant work. I've completed my RSA too so I'm all set to go - just need someone to give me a chance! Thanks for any advice, it's much appreciated. Emma
  20. Thank you for your reply. I'm not solely relying on travel for the de facto, I'm just wanting to build up a few months and wondered if the travel would count towards it. We will be living together in Perth and will have the majority of my working holiday visa to be living together, I just wanted to build up a little bit before the WHV took place so that I had a bit of time to play with rather than just relying on the time spent living together on my working holiday. Other people have suggested that the travelling together might contribute towards it. So you don't think it will? It's good for me to be aware of these things so I know what I can do about it. Thank you.
  21. My boyfriend and I currently live separately and have been in a relationship for two years (it'll be three by the time we head back to Australia). He's an Australian citizen and I have a second working holiday visa to use and we are planning to go back to Perth in December. We are looking at a partner visa but I have a few queries about the de facto relationship and proving you've been in a de facto relationship for twelve months. I've posted on here and had some great advice but just wanted to start a new thread to clarify a few things. If we start setting up joint bank accounts, car insurance, travel insurance and everything together in the UK before we go and have three months travelling in Southeast Asia before we get to Australia, will this count towards the de facto even though we won't be living together until we get to Perth? I'm just worried about applying for the de facto right at the end of the 12 month working holiday visa and having no time to spare in case something goes wrong, so I would like to ideally build up the de facto a little bit before we get there. When we are travelling I will make sure all of our spending money is in one account and that we pay for everything together, flight bookings are joint etc so that we have a paper trail of us actually being together. Will this and a few months in the UK living separately count towards the de facto? Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.
  22. Thank you so much @snifter for all your advice, you've been very helpful. It's a great idea to start to think about it all before we even get to Asia and Australia. You've been very helpful, thank you. In regards to speaking to an agent regarding a bit of advice, how do I go about doing that? I have a feeling agents are very expensive and at the moment I kind of would just like a little bit of advice about the whole travelling thing and it counting towards the de facto. Is there a way I can get a consultation or anything before signing up to have an agent help me out with it all?
  23. It's a great idea but we haven't even lived together yet so we want to make sure we live together first before taking the step of getting married. I know it's a huge step to get a partnership visa together, but we want to live together first, then think about getting married. It's just not really the right time for us yet, but thank you for the suggestion.
