British PCC can be sought online itself, no physical forms required, link : https://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx As for Singapore PCC , it is only issued to people working here on employment pass. I also have been working here in singapore since 2013, for which they issued a PCC. However, for the I was sailing on singapore flag ships, I provided the Case Officer with the email communication I had with Singapore police dept, which stated that they are unable to provide it. Same with Panama, I approached the consulate here in singapore by phone and mail, which confirmed that the PCC can only be issued to a person residing in Panama. Try this: - enter the employment company wise Ex: 1st Company - start with sign on first ship in this company to sign on first ship of 2nd company 2nd Company - start with sign on first ship with this company to sign on ship with 3rd company. (if this is the last company, then sign off from last ship) This is what I have done, and havn't been asked any question by the two Case officers that have contacted me for various other information over the past 3 months. However, can only say for sure once the visa is granted. The important thing here to note is, how you would reaosn with the CO in an event where he/she questions you.

Hi Mariner, I had a similar case as yours, have been ashore since early 2013 as a supt. For some reason I did not think it was necessary to add my shore experience, probably assuming that AMSA was only assessed sailing exp. However, later in one of my communications when inquiring if I could include, I was advised to provide all necessary information and documents that i thought was related to the nominated occupation; a very vague response though. I dint care to follow up on this any further. To my surprise the assessment I received certified me for 8 years of experience. Having sailed from Sep-2006 to Oct-2012, for sure I was not out at sea for more than 6 years. I received the letter in July last year, which is almost 9 years since I joined sea. ; so by the looks of it they included my shore experience as well. You probably may want to call them first.

Hi Fernz1407, I got my Masters assessed by Vetassess, received the outcome yesterday. It says My HND is comparable to the educational level of an AQF Advanced Diploma, and MSc (without Bachelors) is comparable to an AQF Master Degree. Does this mean I can now claim 15 points for qualifications. Now that I had already submitted my EOI in Oct, should amend the existing one, or delete it and re-submit a new one?? I remember someone mention, the EOI should be only after all the assessments are done - AMSA, Vetassess etc. Request inputs from any other members reading. Cheers

Hope everyone is doing well, In the past there have been concerns if examinations period can be counted as work experience, below is an extract from MLC-2007/B2.4.1-Entitlement to leave/Calculation of entitlement: "2.2. Under conditions as determined by the competent authority or in an applicable collective agreement, absence from work to attend an approved maritime vocational training course or for such reasons as illness or injury or for maternity should be counted as part of the period of service." This section of MLC could be quoted, if every questioned by a CO.

Your advise makes sense, getting a higher grade in ielts would allow me to bypass all the ambiguity with claiming qualification related points. However, as suggested by you, claiming points for a non assessed degree should not be clear grounds for a visa rejection. I believe, as a minimum, the nominated skill is to be assessed by the relevant authority, any higher non-related qualification can be used to claim additional points. In case of deck officers, AMSA has clearly mentioned that they will not be able to award anything higher than an advanced diploma, whereas there have been candidates with bachelors who were able to claim 15 points. Going through few other threads on this forum, one gets a feeling that a lot is left to the interpretation of the CO. I think seafarers are likely to face this situation with more of these MBAs and MSc offered based on work experience and CoCs. In fact, AMC offers one such masters , where general candidates require a bachelors and seafare's gain entry based on Class 1 CoC. By this logic, our experience and CoC should equate to at least a bachelors or a graduate diploma, which is contradictory to what AMSA awards us - advanced diploma. I have a MSc(Maritime studies), entry into which was based on my Class 1 coc (captain's licence); however, candidates without a seafaring background are required to have a bachelors. I am confused and trying to make sense of the below extract from the skill select site: // Bachelor Degree To receive 15 points for having at least a Bachelor degree, you must have met the requirements for an award of Bachelor degree by an Australian educational institution or your qualification must be considered as at least comparable to a Bachelor level at Australian standards. Note: To receive 15 points for a Masters degree, you must also have a Bachelor degree completed in Australia or overseas, or the Masters degree must be considered as at least comparable to Bachelor degree level at Australian standards. // I did, approach Vetassess, if they can assess to confirm my masters is at least equivalent to an australian bachelors. They would only assess if either the immigration department or our my assessing body (AMSA) refers me to them. I am sorry, you lost me on this. My Assessment was done in July, EOI submitted in oct. In my EOI I have claimed 60 points (15 for my MSc - which is the highest qualification I hold). And, I haven't been invited yet. My concern was how do I justify my MSc is atleast equivalent to a bachelors in Australia.

Need some information for the police clearance process. Soon I will be submitting the EOI. In order to expedite the process, I was thinking of getting my Hong Kong police clearance before I receive the invitation to apply, but the issue here is, HKG police requires a referral letter from the Australian authorities requesting for the police clearance, without which they would not entertain the request. The entire process with HKG police seems a lengthy one, I need to get my finger prints taken in Singapore, where I reside at this moment - which in itself is a 10day process, followed by a 2-3 week time for the actual police clearance from HKG. Is there a way I can obtain this referral letter earlier, or maybe another way around it, that someone has tried.

Cleared my orals at Fremantle today. It was a quick one, out in an hour. Will mail the questions to captain c in a day or two. Thanks to all in the forum for all the help, most of all to Capt C.Btw Capt c, they did not ask for the basic stcw courses, however I managed to get my certs in time.

A few last minute surprises!! For the initial AMSA assessment, I remember submitting certified copies of (As mentioned in the assssment form): midical care adv fire fighting prof in surv and rescue boat SSO - security. will they require the basic STCW training courses for verification(personal surv tech/elementary first aid/prof fire fighting). As I just realised these certificates are back in India and not sure if I can get them delvered to me in singaoore in time to take them along to Perth next week. For that matter, having the advanced courses would prove the basic were done anyways. Any in sights. panic time !!!!! :arghh::arghh:

Not sure if I can post this question here: (1). What is AMSA alcohol policy, did come across state of Victoria page which mentions 0.0 BAC for commercial vessels. (2). Is MOB. Distress or urgency. If I recall correctly, many vhf sets have an option of "MOB" in the designated distress mode. However, one such ausi page suggested otherwise-urgency. I do recall some info on the lines that it s distress once it is MOB, and changes over to urgency when the rescue boat is in the water / or the casualty is sighted.
