  1. Hi Yes, we think both are worth bringing. We couldn’t afford the equivalent once we move over. Iron Chef thinks that they may be able to help
  2. Hi, thanks for getting back to me. Yes, he has sent you an email directly. We had applied for both Volvo & Ducati but they have asked us to confirm which 1 as we can’t have both. We haven’t replied to their email yet. We’d want to bring the Volvo & the Ducati. The Ducati is a Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak, 2018. No I don’t have a bike licence.
  3. We have a family car which I drive daily, Volvo XC90. My partner is supplied with a works van. He also has a Ducati which he rides in better weather. Im a stay at home mum so they were both just registered in his name when we bought them & I know you can only import 1 registered vehicle every 5 years. I applied for the 2 permits explaining the situ but they have been intouch & confirmed that only 1 vehicle can be imported. Has anyone been in this situation & successfully imported 2 vehicles?

  5. Our shipping agent won’t allow us to confirm/accept their quote until we have VIP which is totally understandable. Started to apply but fell at the 1st hurdle [emoji20] They ask for supporting docs to total 100 points, before you can continue with the application, these include employment resignation, house sale, evidence of applying for Aus bank account/tax code/Medicare etc. We’ve not got ANY of those things yet as our house is just about to go on the market & we won’t officially resign until it sells. We’ve not applied for any bank accounts etc as we thought it’d just be best to do it all once we arrived. Anyone else come across this & how did you get around it?
  6. We’re not married although we supplied all relevant docs to prove we were a family in order to get our visa. Yes, all addresses match. Thanks for replying [emoji846]
  7. All in all sounds like more hassle than it’s worth? I read about the tinted window but thought because it was factory standard it’d be ok. I love the car, it’s perfect for the kids. Defo worth thinking about, thanks.
  8. We are moving to Melbourne from Scotland in Jan/Feb & want to ship our car & bike. Volvo XC90, 2015, 24861 miles & Ducati Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak, 2018, 1604 miles. I can see though that you can only import 1 registered vehicle per year. My partner deals with the buying & registering of cars so theyre both in his name even although I use the volvo daily. Is there any way around this?
  9. We’re moving to Melbourne Jan/Feb & was about to start applying for import permits. We want to bring Volvo XC90, 2015, 24861 miles & Ducati Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak, 2018, 1604 miles. I’m a stay at home mum so my partner always deals with purchasing/registering vehicles. I drive the Volvo daily but from what I can see you can only import 1 registered vehicle each. He’s the registered keeper of both. Is there any way around this or are we going to have to pick between them?!?! [emoji15] i think he’ll be rather upset at leaving his bike [emoji51]
  10. Thankyou for sharing your experiences. My OH thought it best to get a holiday rental closer to the suburbs we liked the look of but I was swaying more towards closer to the city. Suppose if we went to the suburb though it would also give him a better feel for travelling to & from work aswell as myself & son getting a feel for how we’d settle. We’re just desperate to get out & start the next adventure in our lives!
  11. Myself, OH, toddler & dog will be moving to Melbourne on a PR visa. We’ve been to WA a few times & were all set to go there however jobs for my OH seem more plentiful in VIC. Unfortunately neither of us have visited before so are just researching online. We THINK we’ve chosen Frankston as the suburb that we’d like to rent longer term, however we’ll have a good rummage around when we arrive to see how it feels. When we arrive we’re thinking about finding a house closer to the CBD for approx 1 month. This allows us to be close to the city so that OH can get to potential job interviews without travelling too far & allows us to explore suburbs round about. We had initially thought about a holiday caravan/cabin park so as there were plenty of things to do literally on the doorstep for our toddler whilst my OH is out job hunting, we also won’t necessarily have a car right away either. Id appreciate hearing your experiences ..... Where did you stay when you 1st arrived, location/property type? Anything you’d do differently if you had to do it again?
  12. After much debate, we've finally decided that Vic may be the best option for us to move to rather than WA. Reasons all due to OH job opportunities..... As we've never been to Vic before, we really have no idea where to start looking for somewhere to live. From what I've been reading online, Frankston seems to tick all the boxes so thought we'd start our search there. When we arrive we're looking for a long stay rental & though about the log cabin accommodations in Langwarrin. Any views on this accommodation would be much appreciated. http://www.logcab.com.au/ Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  13. Thanks suzukiscottie, had a look at that thread. I didn't realise they done bikes, there isn't anything on their site, but I saw a couple of enquiries. I've dropped them an email so hopefully hear back. Did you ship your bike? If you did, would you do it again given the option? Hahaha Cal this is a very good point!!!!!! I've checked & there are KTM dealers so I'd like to think they'd be able to source any parts, & I'm pretty sure they'll know how to charge for them too lol. Had another wee rummage around & ive found 1 for sale in NSW. 1 year older & heaps more km on the clock selling for $13k. Mine has a current uk value of just over £5k ($9k)
  14. I posted on here some time ago asking for some advice re shipping a motorbike & was given a few useful links. After seeing what was involved & reading stories, both on here & other forums, I realised the general consensus was that 9 times out of 10 it's really not worth it unless it's a particularly valuable bike or you have an emotional tie to it. We decided to just sell before we moved. However at the Isle of Man TT this year there was a group of guys around the bike admiring it. When we approached them & started talking it turned out they were Australian & had never seen the model before. We explained we'd be moving over but that we wouldn't be bringing the bike. They thought that was crazy as it's quite a rare model in Australia, in their opinion. I've had a wee look around & it appears they're right, I couldn't find any for sale in WA (or the UK). Whilst it's not a hugely expensive bike it looks like it'll be very difficult to replace. So we're back to shipping it I guess lol. ive a fair idea of what's required re shipping but we're not ready to apply for the import permit yet as we don't have much of the paperwork they request ie proof of house sale, employment resignations etc. I'm getting a couple of quotes next week from the companies we're considering using to ship our household goods (they both have companies they work with to ship vehicles) but I'm curious, have you decided it was worth shipping your bike & if so what did it roughly cost? If you had the choice would you do it again? FYI the bike we're shipping is a KTM 990 Adventure Sport
  15. Thanks for that AJ. We keep looking through the job sites to get ideas of how many jobs are avail, like you say no too many at the moment but we're a wee while off. Gd to see they're advertising hourly rate though as majority seem to leave this out. Suppose it's to suss out the candidates 1st. Thanks Bobbi2016. He has working at heigh & confined spaces. He also has APAF, which I believe is UK EWP? Not sure if any his current tickets/licenses are relevant or if he has to apply for Aus version. We'll have to suss that out as height & confined spaces are renewable every couple of years & there's no point in him doing them if they're irrelevant. He doesn't require them in his current job. He's also considering a PLC but again we'll check out if it's worth doing here or waiting until we've moved. The hourly rates will give us abit more of a guide to work on, we'll aim for the lower & rough budget around this, thanks again to you both
  16. Anyone?? The reality that we may really struggle, or not manage atall, is starting to kick in. It'd be heartbreaking if after all the time & money we've spent so far to get our visa was a waste :cry:
  17. Hi all I'm looking for a wee bit of guidance on an electrician trade assistants avg wage. We're coming over to Perth next month to activate visa/visit family. Whilst there we'll check out a few areas that we may want to rent in when we make the move over. One of the key factors in deciding where we want to initially rent is going to be my OHs earnings. Hes is a fully qualified electrician here in UK but we know he'll have to do a stint as a trade assistant before getting his licence. We've been looking on job sites (not many of them actually tell you what the wages are) & reading reports, but I'm hoping there's someone on here who can give us a more realistic opinion on what a TA will earn. We don't want to move over, find a place to rent then discover that we can't afford it on a TA wage. We will be coming with savings but don't want to blow it all on rent within the 1st year. thanks
  18. Thank you. I'd checked out the infrastructure page but I must have misunderstood the importers & I was looking for a list of models which could or couldn't be imported, dafty me! .......& here I was thinking we were done trying to scrap around getting points.
  19. We want to ship over my OHs bike, it's a KTM 990 Adventure. We were having a look at shipping companies but most of them stated that 1st we have to check if it can be imported. Unfortunately none of them provided a link as to where we can check this. Ive been trying to find an official list of what bikes can/can't be imported but can't seem to find 1. Does anyone have any ideas where I can find this?
  20. I thought it would be Wooba or I'm sure many more sparks would be going with that option
  21. Thanks bobbie2016. So he does gap training 1st then sits regs course Also I read on another forum that SA doesn't require the gap training, just the regs course. You can then apply for license & transfer it to WA. Seems like a massive loophole but not seen too many other people mentioning this so not sure if it's right or not?
  22. We've just started out researching what my OH needs to do to gain his license to work as a fully qualified spark in WA. Hahahaha was prob naive of us to think that once his skills had been assessed for our visa that he could gain a license fairly easily once we come over. Theres so much info on forums dating back over a few years varying slightly in advice & I've been looking over some official sites about courses they offer but I'm getting a wee bity bamboozled by it. I'm trying to simplify the process in my head. Can you please let me know if this is right or advise us on any the questions? Apologies in advance if I'm trying to simplify this too much. I'm just trying to understand the process. I'm not familiar with all the acronyms & initialisms yet so think that's not helping & confusing me further . Also if it's a lengthy process & he won't be earning we need to save more here to see us through. 1) Have skills assessed in Aus to allow him to work (Is this the White Card?) 2) Go to college to learn Aus regs etc (Is this a classroom based course set out over a period of time or something he can rattle through in evenings/weekends & try to complete ASAP) 3) Work as an assistant to a fully licensed spark for 1yr. (The answer to my 2nd question will determine the answer to this.....can he study as well as working as an assistant? Is it necessary to work as an assistant for 1yr or can he be signed off earlier if he can demonstrate everything required?) 4) Apply for his own license Thanks
  23. Snifter I wasn't too mad on the airport the last time I went either, it did feel quite stressful & that was just adults. Given the choice we'd go through Singapore with Singapore Airlines but they don't fly from Scotland & I don't really want to add another flight getting to Heathrow. If it really is awful we may consider it when we move out permanently. Thanks Quoll, your right, they won't want their flights held up or additional costs any more than I want to miss it!! Ill just have to get practising my relaxation breathing techniques & take it as it comes. Calm parents = calm baby.......I hope lol

    Visa 189

We lodged application 28/01/16 CO allocated Feb Visa granted 22/03/16 Our agent advised not getting our police checks & Meds done until CO was allocated so we went with that. CO gave us a date to have them submitted by, 6 days after that we had our visa! Not it sure if you need to leave to activate, we are offshore, I'm sure someone will have the answer
  25. Thank you all. I'm prob stressing unnecessarily. I'm used to it just being the 2 of us so rushing between gates/terminals, even in Heathrow , wasn't too bad once we had a calming drink in hand! Haha. It's just unchartered territory for us but thousands of people do it. CaptainR - drinks for take off/landing is defo something I'll try & encourage, I've heard poor wee babies in terrible pain before, not great for them. Quoll - I hadn't even given the sling a thought, I just thought I'd grab a pushchair at the gate that had 4 sturdy wheels ready for the dash, good shout thanks. Emirates claim to be a very family friendly airline so I'm sure they'll do what they can to help if we're delayed in any way. Plus they wouldn't sell the flight with a stop-over time that was impossible to meet. My my sensible head is telling me that this should not be my biggest concern when I'm emigrating with a baby but it's the only thing I can chew off at the moment, everything else is still swirling around my head right now! thanks everyone!!
