    ACECQA successful/unsuccessful assessment.

I have an early childhood degree from the UK but early years teaching in the UK is from 3-7, but i agree you should at least be able to demonstrate that you have completed 10 days in early years. The answer i got was that i couldn't demonstrate i had studued education from 0-2. Its not very clear until you start the process and have a contact to speak to. I would still try you pay for them to assess each case individually.

    ACECQA successful/unsuccessful assessment.

Hi Again, I am not sure I am able to help but I applied to ACECQA and was given Diploma level as I didn't demonstrate 0-2 at initial teaching level or work. I asked them what I could do to address that issue and the suggest looking at university/online courses which retrained teachers. As you have already demonstrated the cost can be quite large, but as a PR residents you would be entitled to a commonwealth supported place which reduces the cost, and then you would also be entitled to a HECs or HELP (1 is a loan, paid back through wages and the other is a reduction if you pay each module in full, again this can reduce the modules to about $600 each. Worth considering if you need to retrain or get something for the 0-2 years. MY advice (What ever its worth) would be to submit everything you have got including the assessment from AITSL recognising the same paperwork as an Early Years Teacher, and see what they give you. You will get a recognised qualification which will enable employment (plenty in early years esp at diploma level), use the teaching qualifications to gain your teaching qualification in which ever state you live in. This will be the cheapest of all the assessments, but employment can be hit or miss depending on state, suburb etc. This will enable plenty of employment opportunities and allow you to take time in deciding. As for the paperwork required (I am not sure if they chased up referees) but NSW needed recent referees, so it may be better to stick with you current position, unless you want employment in 0-2. I am happy to help with any questions you have. I am in NSW, and am not sure how other states do things but I can ask other teachers I know, and get better advice for you. Good Luck with everything.

Early Years Teacher skills assessment question

As already mentioned, the AITSL is more about getting an appropriate visa. As for working in Australia, it depends on each state, and their requirements, but the first thing you must be able to demonstrate is and equivalent to a 4yr degree. Have or are you completing a research elements (as that's what is deemed the important part)? Then you need to do the teacher training element? That can be done in either the UK or Australia, but you must be able to demonstrate the 4 year degree. As for jobs, there are jobs, and they pay ok, so if not teaching, teachers aids, out of hours and more can be looked at as options. I hope this helps (a little at least)

Early Years Teacher skills assessment question

Perfect plan, that is pretty much what we did. OH got the visa, and I took my time finding my feet. I am not sure what state you are interested in, but get your husband to start getting his registration started, he can delay if needed (eg not sending in paperwork straight away) but it can take time, and all the paperwork needs certifying. Good luck with the appeal. I would try and if not that long ago get something from the placements you may have done in early years esp 0-4yrs. Fingers crossed.

Early Years Teacher skills assessment question

Hi, I just left it in the end, as my husband was the main applicant also on the SOL list. I now work in primary doing supply. Which suits me better. I'm personally undecided on is it worth it, as Australia like all places somethings you love, others you hate. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone, but I imagine if you appeal and get it, that doesn't mean that Acecqa will agree. I never had my degree or PGCE accepted by Acecqa even though the degree was accepted by Aitsl and NSW D of E. So I am not allowed to work as a early years teacher anyway. So in a nutshell Aitsl can say one thing but each state has it's own accrediting body, and they have there own rules. It's a definite minefield. Good luck.

Early Years Teacher skills assessment question

That is pretty much what mine said, I tried to appeal to be told it would stand as I had no 0-2 teaching, which was ironic as I had completed an early Childhood Studies degree, and placements with that age was a requirement. I'm feel so sorry for you, as they really needs early years teachers.I suggest appealing as well. Good luck
  8. Hi, We had the same panic, but like others have mentioned, we brought over seasonal clothes, some basic toys for the kids, camping dinner set, anything off value such as jewellery and all paperwork. We also had (as paid for by employer,) a cubic metre of air freight that arrived before us, which has camping furniture and extra toys and clothing in it. We also had a bigger weight allowance of 60kg per person, which was a God send, as the paperwork weighed alot. Definitely make sure you have at hand, immunisation records, driving licence etc as they are all needed for medicare etc, if you need to cull the paperwork. Good luck

Teachers Moving or Living in Australia

I know what you mean I had all of that from ACECQA to the point I just gave up. At the end of the day I can teach both Early Years and Primary just not in Australia. It's Australia's loss.

Teachers Moving or Living in Australia

I have not posted in a while but I have been reading peoples posts with interest. After being denied qualification recognition by the AITSL which luckily wasn't needed as my OH was the main applicant and had a job to come to, my family and I arrived in Jan 2015. We have settled well and I have been plodding on in the background applying to BOSTES, ACECQA (Early years Teacher) and now NSW. The time has come for me to do final preparations for my Suitability to teach interview, and to be honest I'm bricking it. I have not had an interview in a while and am not even sure what they'll ask. At this time any advice or just reassuring words would be great. I always prefered being judged on my work with the children, I just turn into a bumbling wreck at interviews, even when I know the things Lol. The first of many interviews I hope, just need to get passed this one.

Early Years Teacher skills assessment question

OK I have some more clarification on my case, the lack of 0-2 is a problem but the biggest issue is the grading of the the Degree and seems that they are not prepared to change their opinion. A closer inspection of the website shows that no UK degree's have been assessed at this level. So at this point, I am going to give up and apply for work as a primary teacher and then when I have full NSW accreditation. I get ECT as well. Very confusing, and if I am honest I am not sure I fully understand, esp when once I have full accreditation I can then work as an ECT which means they suddenly accept the degree..... I am sorry that I have not been able to help anyone, and apologies if my story has made people despondent. I hope that the scenario of people being granted visa's as ECT and then not being able to work at that level doesn't happen and that other states can perhaps not use ACECQA but NSW wanted/needed it, and therefore my fight is over. I am wasting no more time and money trying to get my years spent in Early years recognised.

Early Years Teacher skills assessment question

I was the same I had experience as HND/Degree level but none at PGCE level. To be honest I think they all (ACECQA, AITSL, BOSTES etc) make judgements on everything that is submitted and for that reason each person has a differing experience. AITSL consider early years to be 3-8, ACECQA say 0-5. It is a vast country with each state having rules, and then visa criteria and finally nationwide organisations that taking every application on it's own merits if probably the fairest way. I will keep people posted but I can only tell you my experience and I am sure others have much better. I will keep you posted on the 0-2 criteria as this seems quite important as they UK don't include that in teaching degree/ PGCE's. It takes ages Selina. Which just makes everything so stressful, even when they update the system to tell you it is completed they don't tell you the outcome, you are just left waiting for it to arrive in the post. :arghh:

Early Years Teacher skills assessment question

Funnily enough I heard back last week and was assessed at Diploma level. I'm disappointed but have questioned some parts of the assessment and an awaiting a response. It seems that everything is accepted as an ECT except at PGCE level as i have not completed 10 days professional experience at 0-2. I'm awaiting for feedback to confirm that all I need to do to is 10 days professional experience and then I can be reassessed. At this time all I can confirm is that they recognise early years as 0-5, and without evidence of the 0-2 I'm hitting obstacles. This is a difference in definition to the phrase early years in the UK, and they expect a placement at teaching qualification level in 0-2.I had that experience at HND Level but not at PGCE. I hope this helps, it's like wading through muddy water. Good luck, and I'll keep you posted.
