  1. Summer seems to have arrived now though. Jeez... temperatures in the last week sure have been pretty warm. Summer seems to have made a late entry in WA though. I read somewhere that the weather experts did predict a scorching summer though, so I reckon we'll experience a very hot Jan and Feb. #jumpinthepool
  2. There is plenty of people who have cats. The government mainly targets feral cats that are out astray in the Bush: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jul/16/australian-government-declares-war-on-feral-cats-in-bid-to-save-endangered-species
  3. Go out fossicking. We did this during the Christmas break with the kids. Really fun to do (albeit very hot, so bring plenty of water, shade and sunscreen). You can simply hire a gold detector from here: hiresquare.com.au
  4. The exact choice we were facing two years ago. We visited both cities a few days on holiday. We decided to go for Perth mainly because of the weather (seems less humid) and because my husband is really into wind and kitesurfing. During the summer, a strong breeze picks up in the afternoon around the Perth coastal area. Good for him, and it makes the temperature 'feel' not so warm. We did love Brisbane, and still go there every now and then for long weekends. I reckon both places are great to live in!
  5. We've been living in Perth now for two year. Didn't see a snake the first 1.5 years. Lately we see to see one at every few weeks. Usually when we go walking around the shrubs near the beach. Lucky for us (and our dog :wideeyed:), they don't seem to be aggressive and either mind their own business or shy away.
  6. We're in WA. Just went to a local Department of Transport office, showed our original driver's licence, filled out the forms, paid the fee, did an eye test (reading letter behind the lady at the counter) and got the papers. No biggie.
  7. We applied for quite some houses with various real estate agencies. Some did check our references. Although they were just as interested in personal references as in old rental references. Some went even as far as calling/emailing references in the UK. We did get a house real quick (within a week). We also agreed that we would pay 6 months rent up front, that made all the difference. A copy of an recent bank statement might help as well.
  8. When buying, double check all the dates on the service history booklets. We were just informed that the odometer on our car has been turned back by roughly 140.000 kms. The service history book seemed ok when we bought it, but apparently is was all fake. We were shown that the date of the service booklet itself (printed on each page on a Toyota Prado booklet) did not match the car as it was far too knew... bad luck. Ripped of by an Italian. Luckily the guy is apprehended. We are now taking the means to get our money back (which could take a while )
  9. I believe the Crown Hotel in Burswood also does some coverage.
  10. I recently discovered this daily deals site that seems to list some of the shops mentioned earlier.
  11. Hi, saying a quick hello back. New here as well
