  1. Sounds like you got lucky Paul1perth, nice one! Yeah I have a time served apprenticeship. I've contacted a few places but around that seams to be the going price. :-/ Thanks. Kyle.
  2. Hi Aconcannon, thanks for the info. I have been in contact with the TRA but they put me in to contact with another place that deals with electrical licensing. You wouldn't happen to have any of the info of who you contacted by any chance would you? Like an email adress, or contact number or something. Sounds like a lot of hassle but it's something Id be willing to do to get myself these australian certs as I really want to work my trade over here and gain some new experience. Thanks for your help. Kyle.
  3. Hi there, I'm a mechanical fitter currently in Perth on a WHV. I don't my papers in Scotland so I realise that they're worth nothing over here unless Australian recognised. I was quoted $2,900 to get them changed over by get qualified Australia and I'm just wondering if it's worth doing? I'm currently working as a labourer in the city and hating it. If I could get a job doing my own trade I would be much happier and it's better paid. If if anyone can help me out I would be very grateful. My experience was gained over 7 & 1/2 years in hydro electric power stations, a coal fired power station, dams and fabrication workshops. (6 1/2 years with one company, and a little over a year with a contracting company doing refurbishments) Thanks, Kyle.
  4. That's me officially booked up to fly in to Sydney from Glasgow on the 1st of March, arriving on the 2nd. Absolutely delighted as i've been wanting to do this for years. I'm also doing it alone so any helpful advice on any good hostels in Sydney etc would be welcomed as i've never done something like this on my own. Cheers.
  5. How does other transport compare to the price of flights? Are trains and buses much cheaper, or not that much different?
  6. awryt cool, i'd be wanting to visit WA anyway so i wouldnt mind paying the money!
  7. I was always under the impression internal flights within Australia are relatively cheap due to the shear size of the place? I've no real reason to be picking Perth as my first point other than the cheapness of the flights compared to flying in to say Sydney for e.g. (almost £300 one way) I haven't looked in to a stopover but i'm going to give it a look, thanks! might be an option as it wouldn't bother me too much if i don't get the full 12 months in OZ because i plan to do farm work to get my second year visa. (assuming i enjoy the place that is).. so a round the world flight might suit me better come to think of it! I'm keen to see as much as possible, main attractions for me being the Whitsundays, great barrier reef, blue mountains, uluru, gold coast, great ocean road, fraser island, sydney, melbourne, cairns, and many more..
  8. I'm planning going out on my own in March, i've never done anything like this alone before so it's all new to me and the thought alone is both very exciting and nerve wracking! I'm wanting to do a month in New Zealand and go to Asia aswell for a month or two, during my year in Australia, or after even. I was in Thailand a couple of years back so i want to see some more of Asia, i think i'd probably do that on my way home, and do New Zealand a few months in to my trip. I quite fancy flying in to Perth first as flights are much cheaper from Glasgow, and i plan to go there anyway. Has anyone flown in to Perth first? Is it easy to meet people there? Is it easy to find work there? And is there much to do around Perth in March? Hope to hear from you's soon!
  9. Just had my visa granted too! delighted with life! heading over the pond in march!
  10. Hi guys, as some of you know i applied for my working holiday visa last week.. i kind of expected there to be a bit of a hassle as i have a few convictions (nothing too serious, some driving offences, not turning up to court (didn't know i had to be up) and a breach of the peace) these date back to 2007 and don't go any further than late 2010. I received a reply from the immigration department and i need to give them the following information. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO To be satisfied that you are of good character, additional information is required. For each offence, please provide the following information: 1. The offence for which you were convicted and the date of the conviction. 2. A personal account of the events leading up to and including the offence - your statement should include the reasons for the offending behaviour, rehabilitation received and any other relevant information, such as sentencing remarks. 3. Whether a fine was imposed by a court for the offence and for what monetary amount. 4. Whether a period of detention or periodic detention was imposed for the offence and for what period of time. 5. Whether a sentence was imposed by a court for the offence and for what period of time ("sentence" includes any form of determination of the punishment for an offence). 6. Whether a suspended sentence was imposed by a court for the offence (for example, required to undertake community service). 7. Any additional information that relates to the offence. COPY OF POLICE CERTIFICATE REQUIRED 8. As you have made a declaration that you have criminal convictions, you are required to provide a record of these convictions from an acceptable official source. Information from another person or organisation In this request we have asked you to provide information from another person or organisation about your health, your ability to satisfy public interest visa criteria (including your character and police history), your English proficiency, or your skills or qualifications. You are allowed to take longer than the period specified above to provide this information to us. Okay, well.. the first part i get all fine (apart from the fact i cant even remember what happened in half the offences, so how am i meant to give a run up to the events etc?) and... the information from another person is something i don't get? can this be anybody? my family? a friend? etc. or does it need to be a business owner or ex work colleague or something? Cheers, hopefully someone has been in this situation before and can help. Kyle.
  11. I was told that but i wouldn't want to risk not putting them in and getting booted out for visa fraud! :-/ my mate got in fine and his convictions were worse than mine, yeah i will post here when i hear back!
  12. I applied for mine last night and haven't heard back yet, i'm worried in case i get knocked back because of a couple of silly little convictions in 2008 and 2010. :dull: Fingers crossed its nothing to worry about and i get accepted! Would be absolutely devastated to not get in as i've been dying to hit Oz forever!
