  1. Thanks for your advise. A 457 is not an option, I have 4 kids so the only viable option would be for us to move with a permanent visa. If I was just me and the wife we would of considered it but with a family its to much of a risk. I think we just have to face it, this is the end of our yellow brick road.
  2. That was my thoughts. Why would a company go through all the hassle of sponsoring me when there are probably plenty of Australians with the same skill set.
  3. I work on both web and desktop apps, mainly using .net but also HTML, jquery, JavaScript and angularjs.
  4. Had the news yesterday that our only way into OZ now is through a 186 visa. I don't even know where to start to try and get a company to sponsor me while still over in the UK. I have had a positive skills assessment with the ACS as Developer Programmer but because they didn't recognise my NVQ Level 3 I had to go the RPL route. This now means I haven't got enough points for a 189 or 190. has anyone else tried getting a sponsor while still in the UK? are there any websites that list companies willing to sponsor?

I've just had the news that the ACS don't recognise my NVQ level 3 as valid qualification. The only way for me to progress with my skill assessment is to go through the recognised prior learning root. This will then remove any points that I would of got for me experience. Has anyone ever had to do this with the ACS? I have to do 2 project reports of things I've worked on in the past 5 years. I don't even know where to start.
  6. I have looked through the IT Field Sticky thread, not many developers on there, I also postedon there I while back but didn't get much response. I'm from the North West so don't get London level salary now so would be expecting a bit better then what I do get. I have been working as a software developer for about 10 years and I am Microsoft certified. I am just trying to get a feel for things out there from other developers who might be or have been in the a similar situation.
  7. I was just wondering if there are any software developers on these boards and are working in Oz at the moment. I am a senior software developer (mainly .net) and I am justtrying to find out what the job market is like at the moment and what theaverage salary is. I have looked on theOz job sites including indeed and there seems to be plenty of jobs but not many of them advertise the salary. Me and the family are hoping on moving over next year (I’vejust submitted my skills assessment with the ACS) and I’m hoping on getting a salary of about 100k a year, do you think this is realistic? We will be looking at moving to either Sydney or Melbourne as this seems to be where most software jobs are. Thanks for your help in advance.
  8. Hi dunesurfer you can only get a maximum of 20 points between your Australian work experience and your experience abroad. this is why you are only getting 10 points for your 20 years. I would suggest doing the IELTS to boost your points.
  9. I hope mid 30s is not to old. Me and my wife are both mid 30s with 4 kids (the oldest nearly 13 and the youngest 3yrs) and were planning on making the move next year, if our visa application goes alright. We did look at making the move about 5 years ago but just couldn't afford it then. We are doing it now before my oldest starts his exams and gets himself a girlfriend and doesn't want to leave everything for an adventure to the other side of the world.
  10. Thanks Ozmanic, I'm not registered dyslexic, they didn't do test like that when i was younger and it cost £500 to have the test done now. My oldest son was diagnosed a couple years ago as I could see him struggling like I did, so I pushed for his school to get him tested. I think they give you a extra half hour on the writing section if you can prove your dyslexic.
  11. Hi All Just wanted to share my IELTS results. I was hoping for 8s but wasn't holding my breath as I'm dyslexic. Listening 8.5 Reading 9.0 Writing 7.0 Speaking 9.0 I'm really chuffed with these results even though I didn't get the 8 on writing. Lets just hope the ACS recognise my NVQ Level 3 as a qualification and I wont have to resit my IELTS.
  12. Well done. I've got mine on the 18th of this month, not looking forward to it. I'm hoping for eights as well. Its the writing section I'm most nerves about. What were the questions like?
  13. Hi Kurt I am at the same point as you and I have asked my former employees to state the major projects that I worked on and include the language's that I used and the hardware and software I used on a daily basis.

Thanks for the advice Pastey. As I am 36 I have never been officially tested for dyslexiaas you said it wasn’t a done thing when I was a kid but I have all thetraits. I could see the same in my oldestwho is now 12 and had to push and push his school to get him tested for years. We ended up moving him to a different school inthe end and they picked it up straight away. I just think the writing section will be the hardest topractise for as I haven’t got anyone to mark it so don’t know if I’m doing itcorrect. The other section have plentyof practice material with answers so they should be a problem. I just feel our move to Oz all depends on what score I canget on this. If it was a maths test I wouldbe laughing.

Hi all We had our first meeting with a migration agent yesterdayand he has recommended I take the IELTS. I am a software developer and have about 10 years of experience but theagent said it can be funny how they work out your experience on the skills assessmentso he has advised to go for the IELTS to boost our score. English is not my strong point at all and I am dyslexic, this is one of the reasons I went into I.T. I think I will be ok on most parts but I am really worried about thewriting section. Has anyone alreadytaken this test and if so can you give any pointers or any links to any helpwould be great.
