  1. I have lived in Australia for 10 years and was diagnosed with a rare neurological illness which requires maintenance treatment. I decided to go back to Ireland last Christmas and the first issue I addressed was setting up medical appointment back in Ireland with a public neurologist. So, I got my neurologist here to write a referral letter explaining my condition and sent that to a neurologist back in Ireland, then a schedule was appointed. My understanding of the NHS is that once you return to England you need to see a GP immediately and they will decide to put you (back) on the NHS system or not. I suggest you arrange an appointment with a GP in the area you are going to live in the UK, see them immediately when you arrive back and give them a letter from an Australia specialist describing your condition and current treatment. Also, state that you are going back to the live in the UK permanently. I also suggest that you speak to any voluntary/charity organisations back in the UK that support your condition. They should be able to provide guidance
  2. if China makes a policy change to start transferring money back to the homeland then you'll see a decline in house prices in Sydney..Due to their investment in housing, iron ore exports decline etc... If they can not raise money in China off home investments then they will the cash elsewhere i.e. selling overseas assets. Saw an interesting documentary ( no idea if it is true or not) on how Chinese peasant saving ( in the 100's of millions of people) fuelled a lot of international banks with cash and hence had to loaned out etc... thus causing inflated prices in the western world.
  3. I too decided to go back ( am Irish so not technically a pom in Oz although my best mate is a pom and we always head to English pubs , hit the pale ales and watch the soccer). I have been here 10 years now. Started on a working holiday visa and worked my up to citizenship, getting it May and leaving in June Ping Pong Paddy! I have a good job and history here but last Christmas on holiday with my brother, who is based on London, I just decided I wanted to go back to Ireland/England. Total emotional decision and felt the time was right. I was with an Australian girl for 5 of the 10 years and was immersed in the Australian culture and "way" of doing things. So it's fair to say I was part of the Australian lifestyle. I hope I'll look back with no regrets. The work life, expensive lifestyle and lack of holiday destinations is getting to me a lot. The way I see it If I get a job in Ireland( which I should eventually ), I can buy a house cheaply in area where all my family are based. That's the game changer for me! I will be taking 2 sun holidays a year when I get back to Ireland though.
