  1. Hello all, Its been a while..anyway just need some advice on the 309/100 visa...I`m a dual uk/aussie citizen currently living in the Uk..my partner is Thai and we are planning on getting married next year either in the Uk or Thailand...we then are planning to move back to Australia in a couple of years..is it possible for us to do this via the Australian embassy in London? or would I be better to move back myself and then apply there? Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks in advance, cheers.
  2. hello yàll....well I moved back to the uk 2 years ago(after 20 yrs) for family reasons. And tbh I haven't regretted it at all although I also wouldn't rule out returning to oz..but, at the mo i`m happy in the uk..i`m 51 and looking towards the next chapter..living in oz as great but a long ay from so much..being in this part of the world has its benefits and I have plenty of work and love to travel to Europe and asia..so all i`m trying to say is you only have one life..so enjoy it the best you can..i enjoyed living in oz but at the mo the uk suits me better..i know its subjective but,its good to share our experiences isn`t it..anyway I hope this helps in some ay,cheers
  3. big dilemma but, would you be able to look back in a few months/years and say I wish i`d given it a go..as many of other people have wrote.. its not the end of the word either way..all I will add is it`ll be a great experience to live in oz..and if it doesn`t work out then so what..you can move back..i lived in oz for 20 yrs and moved back to the uk 2 yrs ago..its been a good experience moving back but tbh i`ll probably end up back in oz..but, that's me..i wish you and ur missus all the best..
  4. about $5500 for 17m3...moved in may 2014...including insurance
  5. hi I used OSS in Sydney...cheapest by far..good service in oz but,the company who handled it in the UK were pants...as for insurance...just shop around and be realistic..how much is it really worth to you guys??...all the best
  6. Hello Ali B.. Must say that's a really good honest post..from someone who has defo been there and done that it seems..i emigrated in 1994..and have returned to the uk this year...so I know all about the pros and cons...you`ve summed it up very well...all the best..cheers..
  7. really stupid copper was booking loads of people I noticed afterwards....no traffic at all....the fine was about $75...altho I was leaving oz in a weeks time so I didn`t pay it..no doubt Interpol will be looking for me...
  8. having lived in oz for 20 years....I miss the natural beauty...wildlife etc...my ozzy mates....working outdoors..(carpenter) What I won`t miss is....bogans...red tape in all aspects of life(got a fine for j walking in china town, sydney) stinking hot days and the humidity...
  9. I shipped a van over a few years ago..bit of a hastle really..had to go for a VOSA check with is a lot tougher than a basic MOT...in my opinion..if its not a really one off car..its cheaper and easier to sell it in oz and buy back in UK...good luck..cheers
  10. About 20 yrs...just got back to UK so its all a bit of a blur...although it feels great to be back...so green and lush and the old pubs are great...walked around the countryside with my parents dog and loved it...don`t get me wrong OZ is still a great country...just not for me at the mo...I`ll miss the amazing nature and climate for sure and also my friends...Uk seems allot more confident lately too...all the best to one and all..cheers also I got a ticket for j walking 2 days before leaving...$67...no traffic just walked on a red light on a small road in china town Sydney...crazy
  11. Pencil pushing in all walks of life...just drive down any city main road and try to read the signs...you`d crash...so many petty rules....they think we`re children or stupid...trying to run a small business with all the red tape involved... Crazy hot days... Bogans...in their utes/v8`s....piss off we`re full stickers... general attitude to the environment...including wasting so much energy and general litter in such a beautiful land... anyway the uk isn`t perfect either but,you did ask...cheers
  12. That's good advice but, here in oz things are changing also...big budget in may....and joe hockey is going to sting a few people..pensioners...middle class families to name two...I think Australia will have a few changes on the horizon ...ageing population..lack of manufacturing...paying for the last labour governments stuff ups...no wheres perfect...so maybe you should think long and hard also?... All the best in whatever decisions you guys make...cheers
  13. As you wrote earlier its a very personal thing...the way I see it is...think of all the life experience you have gathered whilst living in another part of the world and the people you`ve got to know...now its another chapter...its all a journey really...the time spent with your family/loved ones is priceless...so whatever happens and for how long...all the best,cheers..and Happy st Georges Day!
  14. poms love talking about the weather....try telling it rains a lot to the inland farmers....they,ve been thru a 10 year drought...that's why the cities are mainly around the coast...Sydney built a massive desalination plant and never used it...I know this is different subject but,Aussies waste so much water its not funny...
