Thanks Ali. We are looking for recommendations for a migration lawyer so we are aware of all the facts and options. Its hard to know who to trust as many apparently reputable experts may be able to manage the standard simple visa applications, however I believe this to be a bit more complex. I would be more than happy to take recommendations from legal teams that people have used and can be trusted. Thanks again Rob

I’m not sure where to start. Just over 4 years ago we moved to Queensland on a skilled visa (myself my wife and my youngest daughter). My eldest daughter remained in Scotland for a further year to complete her hair dressing apprenticeship. When she completed it we were advised that although hairdressers were on the skilled list she would be unlikely to earn enough to go for a skilled visa. We were advised to get her over initially on a working holiday visa then to apply for a last remaining relative visa (although we were aware of the 50+ year waiting list). This visa had work restrictions meaning she had to change employment every 6 months. Fast forward 3 years and she was living with an Australian citizen and were planning there life together so we’re advised to go for a defacto partner visa. We were advised she had to leave the country for a few days, return on a holiday visa and then apply for the partner visa. Once out of the country her visitor visa was rejected. At considerable cost we flew my wife to NZ to collect her and they moved back to Scotland for a few weeks until resolved. At this stage we took our issue to a federal state senator who we believe helped speed things up. (Although they did say we had been badly advised from our migration specialist- but did not expand on this) She has now been back in Australia 2 weeks and we find her partner does not want her and we believe due to gambling issues wants her out the country so he can retain all their assets (car etc). He did not want to tell her whilst she was away as this would be wrong! Thought it would be better for her to land and pay over 10k for the new visa to then pull the plug. At this time he does not answer her texts or calls and she is currently back living with us. She loves him so much and as such this is affecting her immensely. to make things worse whilst on her own out of the country she got so depressed and with this happening she is in a really dark place where she is currently seeing medical/mental health specialists to get her through as she does not want to go on. I know we need to contact our specialist again as well as immigration and am worried what options may now be available to her. she is not strong enough to leave the country on her own and we would need to take a further loan on the family home if we were to accompany her. All her family are here, other than my elderly parents in the Uk. any thoughts or comments would be appreciated as we are desperate thanks Rob

Kellie, We have been following your daily updates with much interest as we were also waiting to hear from our CO. We finally received our Visa yesterday and our thoughts are with you and your family as we know the despair and feeling of helplessness when you see so many others get theirs. There does not seem to be any logic with the selection process that we could see and we hope that you get the good news real soon. Do not give up hope as there is a whole heap of people looking on wishing you all the best of luck. :hug:

Thanks Derren, I have checked out the training permit - do you know if I can apply for this from the UK - do I need to put a Queensland address? (can this be a freinds address in Brisbane), also can the identity be authorised by someone in the UK. I have previously been in touch with Chris and they are not able to support anyone going the OTSR route and I have now contacted the trade college who will advise further on what gap training or recognition of prior learning (RPL) i need to obtain. (They will not advise until I have completed enrolement and paid the $200. I have obtained the white card over here which I done through future skills. They dont make things easy do they? Our biggest fear is we jump through all these hoops to find there are limited jobs available and end up working outwith the trade. Still got to stay positive

Thanks AJ - I had already looked at this link and it mentions CPR is required before obtaining the restricted licence. I need to find out if an overseas version would be accepted? if not I may have to apply when I get over to Brisbane which will delay any chances of the gap training or employment by a potential 28 days. How are you finding it in Perth workwise?

Hi all, I am a brand new member and new to the forum set up. Along with my family we are relocating to Brisbane in September this year. I am a time served electrician with 20+ years of experience and have passed the IELTS and Future Skills electrical practical exam and now have the OTSR. This is where it seems to get confusing as there is so much conflicting information on line. can you advise if it is possible to apply for the restricted licence from the UK - the forms ask for CPR training, again can this be done in the UK? if not it looks like I would have to do this course on arrival then wait 28 days for the paperwork to go through. Do I need the licence to get enrolled with a college for the gap training? again I have been in touch with the Australian Trade College who advise that any training would be dependant on recognition of prior learning (RPL) and would be determined by a trade trainer after paying a $200 deposit. And finally can i get the licence and gap training completed prior to finding an employer. Apologies for the rambling and appreciate that it has probably been asked and answered dozen of times, but any assistance offered would be greatly appreciated.
