  1. Hi, hoping a fellow teacher might know the answer to this. I need to get my Primary school teaching qualifications assessed to start work here (adelaide). It says that i need to have evidence from the university how many supervised teaching practice days i had during my PGCE, it must be at least 45 and must state how many. I have my PGCE transcripts and on them it states the time that I was doing placements but it says it in weeks rather than days, for example, "2 week induction, 8 day serial attachment and 6 week block. Successfully completed." It then says similar for the other placements. Does anyone know if this is acceptable evidence? O r do i need to get a specific letter outlining how many days from the university itself? Thanks
  2. Sorry to hear this, I have a feeling we are in for the same sort of thing. Our stuff got picked up from our house on the 9th jan and it isn't expected to be shipped until late next week so it will be about 7 weeks before it's even left the uk and shipped in the first place. Estimated to arrive 25th April, once u factor in customs and delivery it going to have been at least 5 months door to door, so much for the 8-12 weeks estimate! And like you we have had to chase them for any sort of communication once they had our money. They also tried to charge us for stuff that we didn't take but was on the original quote, having told them prior to collection we weren't taking the items. Ours is a door to door service as well, am hoping we don't get a call charging for delivery but am not going to be shocked if they do! They've got you as well as you need your things so you just have to pay and I suppose take it up with the company later?! Frustrating as well as work tools are in the container and OH is actually in oz now for 8 weeks based on the idea that all our things would've turned up for the house so myself and our two young children could just walk straight into our home without having to deal with with blow up beds etc, so that idea was pretty pointless now! Sorry to jump on your thread with my moan, you're not alone with annoying shipping companies though!
  3. Hi, Hoping some fellow teachers in oz could give some advice. I have PR based on my partners trade, I am a primary teacher and would like to teach once we get to adelaide. However, this probably won't happen until my children are all at school in a few years.Having researched what I need to do to get my teacher rego- getting qualifications assessed, getting first aid & abuse and neglect training, up to date uk police check etc, I'm wondering, even though I won't teach for a few years, is it worth me sorting out my teaching reg once I arrive so that all the major paper work is done while everything is fresh in my mind? If I do this, would I need to reapply every year for teacher reg? And if I do need to reapply every year or whatever it is, would I need to go through the whole paperwork fiasco (qualifications assessed, justice of peace witnessing training certificates etc) that you have to do the first time round or is it a case of once it's on the system, you just pay a fee each year to teach? I'd rather get all the paper work out of the way now or when I first get there and then When I'm ready to start teaching again in a few years il be good to go rather than having to go through sorting out all the uk police check etc. Hope this makes sense!
  4. Oh thank you, he would be so blooming happy if I managed to pull off getting him tickets, wife of the year!;-)
  5. This is all purely hypothetical and it may seem a bit morbid to even think about this but feel like I need to get it clear in my head for when it does happen (but hopefully won't need to use this advice for a very long time). Basically I have Very messy family situation, without going into too much detail, my mOther still has my 37 year old sister at home, she has never moved out and I suspect she has a major personality disorder, she is incredibly dependent on my mother and abusive, basically think of how domestic abuse plays out, ruining self esteem, dictating where my mother goes, what she wears, and violence, etc.she has done about 8 vocational courses/ degrees where my mother has done every piece of work for her, she finally has a job...at the hospital where my mum works. I grew up in a very abusive home, every few days there would be a violent outburst from my sister, I was constantly treading on eggshells, trying to pre empt what might set her off, not using the bathroom when she might need to etc, (this is literally something that would make her erupt, I distinctly remember having the bathroom door being kicked in because I was brushing my teeth when she decided she wanted a bath)You wouldn't guess this in a million years as in public she is very quiet but you might suspect she had some sort of disorder that makes her socially awkward. My mother is in denial when I bring up how my sister behaves, she's just stressed, it was a phase etc is the usual response. Now I have my own children and family I have washed my hands of the whole thing as I can't change her or make my mother see that she doesn t have to put up with it. I have had no contact with my father for over 10 years and I suspect he cut all ties due to the stress of having my sister behave the way she does. I could go on and on about the different things that have happened but it would take forever . The advice I need is the following, when the time comes and my mother does eventually pass away, I will most likely be in oz. how do I sort out the house sale etc and inheritance from so far away? I suspect my sister will be incredibly difficult to deal with, I can fully imagine her refusing to leave the house that obviously I would want sold. Do you just hire a solicitor to deal with it all? Where would I stand if she did refuse a house sale etc? To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be surprised if the will has been changed anyway to favour her as she has complete control over my mother but I just need to get it straight in my head what the process would be rather than having to deal with it when the grieving would be all encompassing. Im sure and I do hope my mum is around for a very long time but you just never know when these things will happen and even my husband says that every time he sees her she looks more and more stressed every time. Any advice on what happens when you are in oz and inheritance and house sales need to be sorted, especially when dealing with a family that maybe difficult or feuding would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  6. Does anyone know what website I would need to keep an eye on to get tickets for the game in adelaide(if the end up playing there)? We arrive 10 days before my hubby's 30th and would love to get him a ticket for it, one of his concerns is being able to follow his beloved liverpool when we move!
  7. we are moving over to adelaide in a few months and as part of our 190 visa application, my partner had to have his skills assessed by vetassess as a mechanic. We received confirmation that he passed and we got the visa granted last summer . However, we never received the actual certificate from vetassess. Will this be a problem when he applies for jobs as a mechanic? Or will the fact that he has the visa be enough to show that his skills are there? If he needs the certificate, is there a way of requesting the certificate again? Our agent received the certificate and sent it to us but it never arrived. Any advice would be great!
  8. Thank you, another question I've just thought of, do I need a solicitors letter to confirm that my partner agrees for the children to travel?
  9. No, I thought I'd better ask this before we book flights. Etc and i will double check on official websites too when I get a chance but is it ok for muesli and partner to arrive separately in oz? We have a 190 state sponsored visa for SA and he is the main applicant. The plan is for him to arrive a month or so before me and and our boys to sort out car, rental etc. we haven't validated our visas yet so will be first time In oz. Also, do we need anything apart from our passports to get thru immigration? When we received the visa it said that it's electronically attached to our passports now. thanks everyone!
  10. Hi Andy, thanks for replying. Income, according to firms that have got back to us will be around 50-60k. My partner will be the one earning and he is a mechanic.. We won't have any loans and we have 2 young children, when we arrive they will be 3 and 1. It will either be just one income or depending on whether it makes financial sense, I might to relief teaching if the childcare rebate makes it worth my while for approx 3 days a week.(have been told this will be about $250 per day but obviously is not guaranteed work), we are on a perm 190 visa and like I said before will have approx $100,000 to go towards a house. thank you so much :-)
  11. Thanks Jessica, we are looking at the southern beach suburbs such as moana and areas around there. But all, depends where jobs are. We should have about 160,000 once house is sold and we already have our money for flights and shipping, so it will hopefully be the whole 160,000 that will take. have allocated $60,000 to help set us up for rental, cars etc so after this have a nice round even number to work with, everything's estimating though!
  12. Wow, thank you all so much for taking the time to reply, it's great to be able to ask these sorts of questions and for people to help out
  13. We won't be living near the city, as OH won't work in the city so the house prices / rent we are looking at are fairly reasonable( although won't really know until we get there). I think $100,000 would definitely cover the 20% deposit and hopefully a bit more as we'll be away from the city and looking for 3 beds rather than anything bigger. Do you have to pay for a brokers advice and help in oz? When we used one here in the uk it didn't cost us anything as I. Assuming he got some sort of commission from the banks?
  14. Thank you, il have a look to see if there's anything similar in SA. Yes we are coming over on a permanent residency visa. It's not something we would do straight away but after a year or 2 I would like to buy somewhere if we are settled and enjoying it
