  1. Yes that's how I see it, it will be worth it in the end. You basically work alongside the health care assistants and can do everything up to catheter and stoma etc but that's way down the line of my portfolio of competencies I have to work through yet but should have quite a bit under my belt by when I hopefully get invited to a interview with the uni so will make Me a bit more appealing to them haha x
  2. Hi Stacey I remember chatting to u months back u wasn't sure which way u wanted to go in health care did u decide? Yes easy enough I applied and went to a informal interview and got offered a place on the IPU Ward I go in on a Sunday morning for my sins so no late partying for me anymore haha! I used go volunteer at a local residents home on a Sunday to be fair but the Douglas macmillan was to good of a opportunity to pass up on because they ofter u a lot more free training in their on site education centre and they give u a portfolio of record of achievement and competencies that you complete with your mentor so really very formal and they have great links with my local uni too x
  3. Thank you. And wow well done in your 1st that's great. I hope I get on the uni course. X
  4. Hi everyone Haven't posted here in a while but glad to say that I applied, sat entry assessments and was accepted onto the access course health related. I start in sept and plan on applying to 2 local university's in dec/Jan for the next academic year sept 2015. So excited feel like I am making my first steps to becoming a nurse and applying for visas (small steps but thinking positive) Also have been volunteering at my local palliative care hospice. It's been really great experience and started to be a bit more hands on now which is great really enjoying it. Hope your all well xx
  5. Hi Tracey Welcome ? Like u when I told my MIL I was going to go to uni she pretty much implied I was stupid and the course would be to academic for me.... grr!! That just gives me more motivation to do it and prove her wrong. I have applied for access course hoping to find out if I have a place in a couple of weeks. And I wish I would be 29 when qualified....I am 28 now so will be 32 eek!! X
  6. Exactly me too... gutted!! Got to weigh it up then in terms of childcare etc whilst there. I start access course in sept then 3 years from there so 2 years behind u :-( just wish I had done this sooner but ooh well that's hindsight for u isn't it xx
  7. Perm resident visa 189 or 190 (state sponsered) but yes the employer nominated visa u can get however your not a full resident so you rely on them putting that through for u after a period of time but if like me u have children u wouldn't be entitled too centre link or medicare.... xx
  8. Hiya and welcome ;-) I hopefully won't be too far behind. I thought reading on here it was once qualified but I now think a PR visa is after 3 years from what someone told me this morning....I hope not through :-( hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong. Xx
  9. Ah so u can't apply for PR after graduating? This is where I have got muddled up with reading the other nursing threads. Age is a factor here haha! If it was just after graduating if I push it through super fast and plan ahead gathering all the uni evidence as I go along I may just get a invite to apply before my 33rd birthday so at 32 could came the extra 10 points I think it is... So is it a 457 sponsored visa after grad with getting a job offer within Australia (so no qualified work experiance) Or wait further 3 years after grad then apply for 189 PR visa? That will be taking me upto around 35-36 years old and my girls 10-11 and 6-7 years old. Hmm this will take some thinking then closer to the time of graduation... X
  10. Snap... I have always wanted to be a nurse but with a house, husband, two children and a dog to look after thought it impossible... But we're desperate to move to Australia and of course this is the driving factor so will have to suck it up (the financial implications) and go for it. If Nursing gets taken off the lists then I guess it's no biggy because I will be finally getting to do something I have wanted to do in a long while....its just going to take me 4 years ?
  11. Currently at the beginning of retraining as a Nurse...Prior to this I worked in Finance (bookkeeper)
  12. Awe I am so happy for you both well done xoxo
  13. What are the pet rules now for bringing them from the UK to australia?
  14. Thanks. Also got interview to volunteer at local hospital next month and got a contact at our local Dougie Mac as would like to volunteer there too because I am really interested in palliative care.... something will have to give though because I go back to work in march after maternity leave for 3 days a week and 2 evening at college for access with two kids a husband (which is the most hard work haha) dog and a house to run!! Phew I am going to be chocca! X
