  1. Good news, I received a permanent job offer yesterday from a few interviews I've had over the last weeks. Very happy and looking forward to getting down to some work finally.
  2. Hi All.. 10 weeks into our Australian move and I'm still struggling to find work (to be fair we spent the first 3-4 weeks looking for apartments so they don't really count). I've applied for about 60 roles in the last few weeks and only been interviewed by 2 companies (Although in both occasions I got through to the final few candidates after several interviews each), despite easily having the qualifications and experience to do the roles. It does seem to me that the Australians really do prefer Australian experience over anything else. I was actually told blatantly that I had the best skills for the role, but they hired someone with Australian experience over me The hunt continues but my optimism is flagging....
  3. davlap, sounds like you've had a crap experience. Have you. Red jobless since October? Im no programmer, more of a solution designer specialising in Microsoft products, active directory specifically, and SAN/NAS. I've also some a lot of 3rd line support so have been looking at support team leader roles. I was hoping that my 20years IT experience would have been a good selling point. I guess 6 weeks in is still early days and maybe too early to start worrying.
  4. I've been looking at Solution Architect or Team Leader roles but might have to lower my expectations as I'm not really getting anywhere.
  5. I've been in Melbourne for 6 weeks now and not having much luck so far job wise. Have a series of interviews for 1 company but they've gone quiet now so I assume they have someone else, other than that I've applied for about 20-25 jobs and not had a single response back. I know it's still early days but I expected a better start to my Job hunting.
  6. I agree with Nick, the higher end/ large corporate jobs are usually based in the major cities so that's an obvious place to start looking. I agree that there are lots of other roles in the various other cities and rural places, but those don't suit everyone's skill set.
  7. Same request from me. I've been in Melbourne for a week now and starting the job hunt. I've applied for some on Seeknbut are there any good Melbourne based IT agencies I can approach.
  8. 3 weeks until We fly out to Melbourne on a 189 visa so time to start re-vaming my CV. I've checked a few websites for hints on how an Australian CV differs from the UK one but can't find much information. Can anyone give any advice on laying out a CV.. Even better.. anyone brave enough to send me theirs so I can see how it's done. Thanks.
  9. Hi, My wife and I are moving to Melbourne in April and I know we've left this a little late but need to get our pension sorted. I know I'm OK with private pensions (and will likely look into this properly when settled in Australia) but we both also have an NHS pension (although only 4 years worth for me so I don't think it's a lot of money). One question, does this only impact central government pensions? My wife works as part of the admin staff at a local college and she has a local government pension, will this also be impacted? I know it's impossible to give sound advice without all the facts, but given the costs involved, is it worth it to move 4 years of NHS pension?
  10. We're thinking the same thing.. No kids here so that's not an issue. If we don't stay in the CBD then I defiantly want to be no more than 30 mins commute away.
  11. Hi, I'm looking at a move to Melbourne with my wife and have been considering a central apartment rather than a house in the Suburbs. A few friends have warned me off due to noise issues they experienced in their apartment (they broke the lease 6 months in to get out due to noise), but the central location really appeals. Just wondered if anyone else had a central apartment and could give their experiences. Thanks.
  12. I know there are a few people on here offer short term migration for new immigrants.. just can't remember who they were.. can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks.
  13. I'm in the same situation, my Wife's medical was referred but still waiting to hear back on the outcome.. hate the waiting game Medicals were submitted on 11th June so it's been over a month now.
  14. Yes, CO was allocated quite some time ago now, 15th May..
