Thanks everyone for all your help! I really appreciate the time you took to give me some info... We're still looking through forums and websites to get a feel for it but we'll also have to just arrive and go with the flow. Might even look at sharing a flat for a month on arrival maybe even. Like you said, it would not be clever to get a flat before we secure jobs so we know for sure how far we get to commute each day.

Hi there, This is my 1st post. Me and my boyfriend are getting closer and closer to the move date (11th February) to Sydney and we are increasingly nervous trying to tie up any loose ends here and make sure everything is done before we go. We're arriving on a 176 skilled migrant, sponsored by NSW. 2 questions: - what do you think is best for the 1st few days on our arrival?We don't want to waste too much money in hotels etc... and would love to find a place to rent quite quickly but it will be a bit difficult at first since we won't have jobs yet so won't know where to commute to etc... I was wondering if people could share their experience to give us a few helpful tips. - regarding health insurance. According to what I've read, under our visa, we would benefit from Medicare? How does that work? What is included? Do we just book an appointment with them on arrival in Sydney or can something be arranged from here? Or is it easier to get a UK insurance?
