Well it seems that both spellings are right .. Philps are 'Pasty' and the butcher down the other end of Hayle is 'Pastie' Now the 'Pasty' is Puff Pastry but the 'Pastie' is Short Pastry .. maybe therein lies the clue!!! Hoo cares anyway ... BOTH were excellent to consume and I did give you a fleeting consideration whilst doing so ... not much mind ... just a wee bit!! Starting to settle in now, spending enormous amounts of money getting set up but hopefully that will stop soon Bit of a shock coming from somewhere close to 40 squares of home in Tassie to a 2 1/2 bedroom bungalow down here Our bedroom was as big as the kitchen and lounge room together here .. if others can do then so can I that is for sure 18 holes in the sun (when it gets back from long service leave that is) will make everything look rosy again Catch everyone from time to time The 'Moz'

Well we are finally here in Cornwall. Hit a few bumps in the plans right on day one. Seems we have to find some accommodation (furnished even) as our bungalow needs more 'updating' than we though at long distance. finding workmen and then doing more than we anticipated means we need to find alternative digs for a few months .. not terribly easy if a holiday destination coming up to their best season We will overcome it somehow! In just a day and a half we fell we are "HOME" and have been welcomed by everyone we get to talk to A little shock how different 5* C is in windy and wet Cornwall compared to 5* C on a sunny morning in Tassie ... just some additional layers will sort that Have a Kia Sportage now and being mobile and independent makes a great difference .. just and only just got the baggage into it even Have a good one Moz!

I can't argue with your reasoning ... it just wasn't for us and our misgivings relate to us only. Great place to be when compared to the rest of Oz. Pity there are so many 'government' employees of all varieties for such a small population We have been in Cornwall just 2 days now and strangely feel very much at home. We leave London for Carbis Bay this Thursday .. and the voyage really begins

Sort of shows the age does it not? Royal Brunei business class is $3.5K one way .. cheaper if you buy return (as in not twice that amount) They give you 3 check bags for a total of 50k each as well. Add to that use of lounges at Tullamarine (Melbourne), Brunei and Dubai so the body doesn't react so violently as it does in cattle class The three 7 to 7.5 hours legs also make a difference By the time we took into account the domestic hassle with that luggage, the need to stay at a fleapit (aka Melbourne Airport hotel) at ridiculous rates we didn't spend too much more than going as a standard economy fare. Plus the body at my age fully understands the word "HURT" and tries unreservedly to avoid such instances. After all it is only money and being fully paid up members of the "SKI" clubs we didn't hesitate. Now after 14 hours sleep, a great big breakfast I feel the need to be horizontal overtaking me Even added the UK keyboard driver so I can do this ££££££ in my emails as well Now if I could only master the accent, shave my head, I could almost pass as a local!!!!! Finally on land and in a real bed! Arrived just 10 minutes late after waiting and extra 90 minutes for a connecting flight from Jakarta. Express through the regulators and shocked the cabbie"S" (yes TWO) with the luggage Told them we were only here for a week and that broke them up Just as well we arranged tow of them because no single cab would carry what we had Hotel is full of displaced locals forced out by the flooding and being housed at their insurance companies expense Glad we booked early and everything is full.. a number of hotels that did have displaced people have also been flooded making things even worse a gentle 4* C greeted us but the weekend shows storms and wind and more rain is due Be motel bound for a couple of weeks now but then the real adventure starts Thanks again for all the well wishes and encouragement Will keep in touch and report progress The MOZ!!

We had no issues like that. Just you need a waterbag, blue cattle dog and emergency rations to get from the Aircraft, through security, and than back to the lounge to be told they are reboarding in 15 minutes. Not even safe to try for a shower in the lounge. RBI is fine but I can't fathom out how they employ such a herd of young elephants and cabin and flight deck staff. They shut the cabin down, get you all the makings for a restful sleep, and wait 30 minutes and start to do whatever in the kitchens Stuff goes back and forth, doors open and shut (BANG), and people MARCH up and down Hopefully this is the last one anyway MOZ!

Hi We were in Hobart in Taswegia. Left home at 4.00am and now in the lounge at Brunei. Same old hard seats on 777 but looking forward to the lie flat cubicles on the 787 for tbe rest of the journey. Finally in the northern hemisphere and watching the water go the wrong way down the plughole!!! Cheers everyone C

Well who cares anyway..eh! We will be in Hayle for a week getting our bungalow close by in order (read new carpets, paint in & out, new kitchen, plus whatever the Minister for War and Finance dreams up for me! We will be close to St Ives to start until we see what things are like and after that..who knows? Philips will be right on top of the list for sure! RAIN? what RAIN? We are taking a suitcase full of sunshine with us anyway. Just as well we didn't plan to travel down there by train. Thank again Moz!

Just juggling the packing to get the bags all 'correct weight' in the combinations. we are going Royal Brunei business class and hence we get 50KG in three bags EACH. Getting three bags to be 50Kg or under is the trick I just hope the travel scales we have are somewhat accurate or I am sure the Airlines will extract copious amounts of $AU with glee Look like being over by about 3Kg on one group but will wear that as we have shed more than we wanted too .. amazing what you can find to take with you! Some little gremlin seems to make things appear mysteriously every time we finish the "final" weight in! Anyway by the time everyone in Oz is having their evening meal on Thursday we will be battling the cold and the M25 etc trying to get to our motel We booked for the day ahead so we can go right there when we land at 6.40AM and not have to wait for check after 2pm I can't impress enough to anyone doing the move either way to start arrangements EARLY and then RECONFIRM those 'supposedly' in place to be sure. Little thing like the SMS PIN now used in the banking system. I will drop my sim in a bin at Heathrow but then the Bank / CCard company can't get to me Then to make it exciting I can't log on and change it!.... trying getting a response online is like drawing teeth from the CEO I bet we have forgotten something but what the heck.. too late Just love some aggressive utility company try to charge me a late fee or the like .. be good fun to antagonise them from the other side of the world .. PAYBACK it is called!!! OK... that will be it for me I expect till we get internet in the UK. I have to dismantle the NBN connection here and pack the gear to take with me tomorrow early. Hi One is 'Moving back to the UK' and the other is just 'moving to the UK' Just want to thank everyone involved here for the wealth of information available. I haven't posted before but I have been lurking and digesting the contents. After some horrendous exercises in selling and finalising a house sale, organising the myriad of things necessary, we are off next week (12th) Most of our issues were local and we have dealt with them but this site was a great source of information and hints. Moneycorp were stupendous in moving the funds we had to. Oh that everything else could have been as smooth and effortless. Other tasks were made easier armed with the knowledge and experiences detailed in Pomzinoz! One word of warning if you are to the UK just be careful with shipping. We planned ahead and arranged sale settlement to give our goods a month's start on us. Our gear went to Melbourne on January 19th, straight to the INTERNATIONAL SHIPPER [ KING & WILSON ]:evilface_frowning_s It is STILL IN THEIR WAREHOUSE TODAY It will arrive in the UK on April 2nd and deliver a few days later DO NOT LEAVE anyone undisturbed regardless of how plausible their demeanour is. We 'trusted' their assurances and when we started asking questions we got political speak. "We cannot confirm anything at this time" was their response. Went up the tree, even suggested it may be prudent for me to slip over (from Tassie) and find a good legal rep. and pay them a visit! Magically in 24 hours we have a vessel name, some dates, and not even a hint of an apology. When you get a quote most likely from a 'local' agent of the international shipper, DEMAND full detail of the process. Get it in writing and make sure they adhere to it or you may well suffer as we have. Money up front seems to be a license to do as they wish. We had 36 Cubic meters so not a full container and this it seems made us vunerable to the whims of the warehouse managers Anyway all is sorted now and we are up up and away very soon to start the next episode in our life Just need that Jetstream and the weather to move north or south of where we are headed Thanks again

If you haven't made a decision give CHRIS BELL at Bell's Removals a call. 0362299099. No way affiliated with them but they moved us from the mid north of NSW to south of Hobart and were excellent. We have just used them again to pack us up for the trip to the UK. We depart Hobart for the UK on the 12th. We didn't check prices because everyone else we contacted didn't want to go out of their way and come to where we were. They packed and loaded into their truck (no container), drove it to Kingston, and then unloaded it from the same truck to our house. No double handling. No issues, no problems and we had about two houses full (which we have reduced massively) of gear. Should you use a container make sure those doing the paperwork know the difference on a map between Perth and Tasmania. Containers seem to take extremely long holidays on train carriages in Australia without even telling you they are going either.

Don't want to be too negative but my wife and I moved to Kingston in 2006, bought house, tried to merge with local groups but found that unless you had a teenage nickname from the local footy club or school ground you were tolerated rather than accepted and included. The locals seem rather conservative and parochial.:huh: Love the climate, place is great when it is green, but found if difficult to find 'casual' eating places with anything but remanufactured food. In a place surrounded by water you get served frozen flathead fillets from Argentina in most but the ubber expensive fine dining establishments.:mad: The markets have fantastic produce but it seems that when the weather cools the place shuts down. Anyway .. each to their own opinion I suppose. We depart Hobart next Wednesday (12th) for London and then on down to Cornwall for good. I am an Aussie but my wife is Welsh and lived in Cornwall for a long and happy time. I don't have enough years left to see all the British isles has to offer let alone the continent so I have no qualms about the move. We are taking an extra suitcase full of sunshine to see if we can't change the weather patterns over there. Best of everything to those that are left behind:animal-cow:
