1. Hi I'm moving to Brisbane next week and was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on buying or leasing a car. I'm guessing it would be more economical to buy a car then sell it after a couple of years? In which case something that is cheap and won't depreciate too much.
 2. Yeah, I fly to Brisbane on Monday... Paying off early was tough it does mean I have to hold back on a couple things I wanted to get but it's probably worth it given the exchange rate heading south.

 4. Just to update I have been watching the AUD/GBP rate plummet over the last week or so and from what I've read the trend is only going to continue which will only make it more difficult to pay off while in Oz. So I have just made a payment to clear my balance (had about 4.5K left).
 5. Hi, Interesting topic. I graduated in 2006 and I would say only since 2010 have I made a real effort to pay it off (I was doing a PhD from 2006-2010 so not earning a taxable salary). In 2010 due to interest my loan went from £16K up to £18k it's down to around 4K now and I'm moving to Oz at the end of November. I just received my P45 for my new employer (which will be in Oz). instead of making monthly payments I'm hoping to just save up until April and pay the remainder off before the start of the UK tax year. Once the tax year begins I imagine I'll be prompted by HMRC to make payments out of my salary which is why I want to pay it off before then... And I hate paying interest on top so I just want to rid my self of the debt. I've also read around and it seems like the Oz economy (which is heavily dependent on China) is likely to improve in the near future so now may be the best time to pay it off. Consider that the interest is added cumulatively and estimate which loan would be better to pay off first...
 6. I'm also in a similar position only 24 months instead of 9. I think leasing would be too expensive...
 7. Hi all Lodged my application on the 10th of August, was contacted today by C/O at brisbane office for further information. Looks like the ball is rolling now..
 8. it Yes I'm from the UK, I think I made a mistake in thinking that medicare would be sufficient however I now realise it's only available if you're in the country (which I am not). Hopefully the CO will request it and I can just take out some temporary cover and supply those docs?
 9. Hi guys, I'm also waiting for my 457 since 10th Aug. One thing though I did not at the time provide and health insurance documents. Should I have done or can this be done once a CO has been appointed? Thanks
 10. Hi thanks blossom, The university I will be working for will be paying for my flights so perhaps I can get the travel insurance from them as well.. Would I have to contact immi or should I wait for them to raise it? If I have to get some temp insurance does can anyone recommend one? I read a post that suggested http://www.duinsure.com/ any thoughts? Thanks Raj
 11. Hi, I'm pretty new to this. I applied for my 457 on the 10th of August and it still says it is being processed.

Application 457 Business Long Stay Primary - #

10/08/2013 Application received - processing commenced Message

10/08/2013 Application fee received Message

 View your receipt details

Person 1 Raj Patel Date of birth: # Passport No: #

10/08/2013 Health requirements finalised

Apparently no examinations are required. However after just reading some information on the net it says that evidence for health insurance needs to be supplied when applying for a 457. I assumed at the time I would be covered by the reciprocal health care however it seems this can only be applied for when actually in the country. Given that I have already applied and I have not heard anything from the department of immigration what should I do?
