Teachers Moving or Living in Australia

PE jobs are incredibly difficult to come by. There are very few permanent jobs and there's a queue of casuals waiting to take the jobs. You could come over work as a casual and hope something opens up. I worked as a casual (history) teacher and ended up getting a permanent job. Lucky that there was an opening.
  2. In Sydney Metro - sorry I forgot to state the location!

Wow, I just found this old post. How times have changed. I've now got a permanent job at a great school.

Any History teachers with HSC/A-level experience, based in Sydney looking for a temporary term 4 post, PM me!
  5. Hi all, I'm a Humanities teacher originally from the UK, an Australian permanent resident living in Sydney wanting to move to Perth or surrounding area. I've been teaching in two academically selective, state schools in Sydney over the past 3 years and have 2 years experience teaching in the UK. I love Sydney, however the price of property is just ridiculous! My OH and I are on the verge of having a deposit and starting a family, and have come to the conclusion that we want a garden and beach lifestyle, this is impossible in Sydney unless you have $1,500,000. Anyway, I lived in Perth about 8 years ago, I have family and friends there and feel this is the place to start my family. I'm in the process of registering to teach with the WA education department. I know Humanities jobs are hard to come by, especially by merit selection as there are tonnes of applicants for each position. I would love to stay in the public system, however I am open to going into the private sector if it enables me to move to Perth. Has anyone transferred from NSW to WA? Or have heard of anyone who has secured a job in WA whilst working in NSW? I'm not under any illusions, I know this will be difficult to achieve but it's worth a try! Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi all I moved to Sydney 3 years ago with my partner. We both have permanent jobs which we love and are ready to buy a property, however we're just disillusioned with the cost of property here in Sydney. For the same price of a 1 bed apartment here, you can buy a 3 bed house in Fremantle, WA. We're seriously considering moving out west, a place we've spent a lot of time. The question is, have any teachers gained a permanent job whilst applying outside of the WA. I'd love to stay in public education, however I am open to going private. Thanks in advance...
  7. Hi all I'm currently on my spouse's 457 visa. We would now like to apply for a 189 with my skills. Someone told us that this is not possible, but I don't understand why it would be a problem! thanks in advance...
  8. Hi I've been looking for an answer, can't find it anywhere. I should be submitting all documents for 189/190 in August (after EOI). I'll be moving in September, is it possible to change address as the visa is being processed? Thanks in advance.
  9. Hi all I'm currently in the process of gathering documents for a 189 visa. I'm currently on my girlfriend's 457 and living in Sydney. Is it worth waiting for the next round of visas? I'm a Secondary Teacher and doubt it will be taken off to SOL. Thanks in advance.
  10. I have a rare opportunity... Are there any experienced Business Studies teachers, registered with the NSW Institute of Teachers wanting a start within the next couple of weeks? PM me for details.
  11. I'm a UK teacher currently teaching in Sydney. Be wary there is an oversupply of teachers in the metropolitan area. It took me 3 months to find my first job and have been on temporary contracts ever since. Once you get your foot in the door you'll be fine nut don't expect to walk right into a job.
  12. Hi All I'm currently on my girlfriend's 457 visa. I can apply for a 189 visa as I have 70 points. Is it possible for her to leave her 457 and come into my 189? I've been searching high and wide and cannot find an answer. Thanks in advance...

Teachers Moving or Living in Australia

I arrived in Sydney on Xmas Day. I was lucky as I arrived on my girlfriend's 457 visa, her company paid for agents and visa fees. I've gained provisional accreditation to teach in NSW and I am awaiting accreditation from the CEO (Catholic Education Office), I applied 1st week of Jan and I'm still waiting. I haven't got much teaching experience (2 years as a Secondary History/RE teacher, 1 year as Coordinator of PSHE), so on paper not a bad CV for my first 2 years. I've applied for 15 job and nothing. I received a handwritten letter from a Principal which said something along the lines of, "Very impressive CV, you've put a lot off effort in but we don't want to take your application any further" I've been in contact with SMART Teachers, I'm registered but they said I've arrived at the wrong time of year and that supply/cover will pick up in term 2. In a nutshell, the feeling I'm getting is there are too many teachers and not enough jobs(In the majority of subject areas). A bit of a sweeping statement, I know. There does seem to be more maths/science jobs. Luckily my gf is "keeping me", I am going to continue applying but eventually I'll have to get a job (ANYTHING!) because I'll go crazy Good Luck to you all (you may need it)
  14. I've been reading different things. Some people saying, it can be all done in under a week? What about the costs? Any ideas? The NSW government website is as clear as mud.
