  1. Hi, we are looking to fly out to Melbourne towards the end of the month and are deciding whether we should take our car - a 2006 BMW 318i msport convertible. We have been offered £3300 by WeBuyAnyCar but I imagine it is probably worth more than this (maybe £5500?) as it is in very good condition. I would be grateful for any advise as to costs and whether it is a good idea for us to take it. Also, if anyone can recommend a firm to arrange the whole process that would be great.
  2. Thanks wrussell. I completely agree with you Alan and that is what I intend to do. I guess I am trying to establish the rules of the game rather than a strategy however at this point. Is it fair to say that so long as my degree and awarding body/institution is on a list of recognised qualifications then I shall be awarded the 15 points, or is it a subjective decision that the CO will take. If there a list of recognised qualifications are you able to advise where are can find this. many thanks.
  3. Thanks for your reply. From what I understand points advice is just that, points advice, and there is no assurance that the CO will accept the advice given. I could appreciate the need if I were claiming for a vocational qualification where it might be difficult to draw comparison with an Australian bachelors, or if I were claiming that the qualification was related to my nominated occupation, but it is an honours degree from a mainstream UK university and clearly not related to my nominated occupation. The CO must work to an established set of rules where an unrelated degree is worth x number of points in every instance but I cannot find any reference to this anywhere.
  4. Hi all, I have spoken to 3 different agents over the past week, trying to find one to help me complete my EOI online. During these conversations I have received conflicting advise as to how many points I will receive for my degree. I am a carpenter with a BA (Hons) in economics and a post graduate certificate in construction project management. Two agents have advised that I would be granted 15 points for an unrelated degree, whilst the other says only 10. How do I know who to believe? they are all MARA agents. Is there a definitive reference where I can find this information for myself as I don't want to take a gamble. Any advise would be appreciated.
  5. Thanks for your reply lebourvellec, I have sat the ielts and got over 8 in each section. I have not had my degree assessed by anyone other than a couple of agents who gave me informal advice over the phone that pretty much any Honours degree from a UK University would be accepted. I have a BA(Hons) Economics and a PgCert Project Management in Construction. Do you know where I might be able to have my qualifications assessed for a reasonable price - I am reluctant to spend the $1100 for full points advice as the other points for which I am claiming (age, ielts) are clear cut.
  6. Hi everyone. I am new to the site and hoping to get a little advice regarding the EOI form. I am not using an agent and want to make sure that I do not over claim for points. I have just sat the carpentry technical interview with VU (still waiting to hear back) and will pick up 25 points for my age (37), 20 points for English, and 15 points for my degree. Although I have at least 8 years employment history in the last 10 I do not intend to claim for these as they were pre qualification. My question is this......can I claim points for family sponsorship by my partner's brother who is an Australian citizen. My partner will be included on the visa application along with our 2 boys. If so, is there a bond which would need to be paid?
