  1. It really is maddening isn't it. As someone who required the use of the NHS quite recently after being rushed to Moorefield's as an emergency patient I can honestly say that I was treated so well and I can't thank the amazing nurses and doctors enough for everything they did to help me that night. I am very lucky to still have my sight thanks to their swift and remarkable work. However afterwards I was informed I would require further surgery but was only offered a short term fix option by our local NHS hospital. My consultant did provide me with information of a treatment I could obtain privately at a cost of almost £8k which would be a one off treatment. She also made it very clear that I should make my mind up quickly as I required this operation as an emergency. With this in mind I visited my GP to see if I could obtain funding for my emergency operation which wasn't available on the NHS. She actually laughed at me. That day in all of the newspapers were stories of a young woman who had received a breast enhancement operation on the NHS costing around about the same amount as my vital eye operation. Needless to say I was more than a little miffed but we raided our visa fund and paid the almost £8k for my op. I'm all well after my op and my eye sight is so good , I cant remember it ever being this good and another plus is that I wont require any more operations. I've decided not to let it all upset me and think positive, although its difficult sometimes when you know that you've always worked hard and paid all your dues but when you really need help from certain quarters its not always available when it should be, however our visa fund is looking a little healthier again and hopefully we will be on OZ one day really soon..............
  2. I Love this thread thank you! We are a family currently in the process a applying for our visa and have experienced all sorts of hiccups and hurdles. We hope to one day fulfill our dreams and are grateful to hear about all these real positive experiences. I will admit Ive read a lot of negativity on here lately, which I understand someone in our position needs to know too, but happy thoughts are good!! Thank you all again.
  3. Your posts do make me chuckle Hoff! My husband uses the old favourite "she who must be obeyed" for me. We are considering Perth for our family move if our visa is granted. We are a family of four with two girls aged 11 & 13........going on late teens if you know what I mean. We hope to be close to a beach, the girls do lots of swimming at home so would like to keep that up, my husband was a qualified Padi Dive Master & Instructor when the girls were younger but hasn't had the opportunity lately so he would love to dive regularly. Can you recommend an area that offers easy access to CBD or other good work locations with good schools and activities to keep kids happy? Thank you for any information you can offer.
  4. Yes my husband did the ACS last year so its the IELTS that are holding us up at the moment. He wasn't able to book them until 27 July................ but if that's all we are missing, then in theory if all is well with IELTS and the results are back in 2 weeks we could just about scrape our EOI in. Fingers and toes crossed then!! Thank you so much lebourvellec I knew someone could make sense of it all for me. Just out of interest, what is the process for the 190? Are we putting ourselves under too much pressure, would this be easier?
  5. Hello everyone. I've already seen some really informative posts on PIO so I'm hoping someone could offer us some advice on how to move forward. Towards the end of last year my husband and I contacted an agent to start our visa process. According to the immigration website we have 60 points so our options would be 189/190. (189 preferred). Unfortunately just after we made contact with the agent I needed urgent medical attention. I wont go into details but after some very good NHS treatment we were forced to use our extremely precious visa money on surgery for me. (Hence our long delay) I'm very well again and we are all (my husband, our 2 gorgeous girls aged 11 & 13 and myself) desperate to get moving on the visa process again so last week we made contact with the Agent again. Everything had been left in a positive place with the agent as we had 60 points and my husbands job in IT was on the list. They have now informed us that as my husband, who is the main visa applicant, will be 45 in Sept 13 its unlikely we will be able to get everything sorted in time. I'm normally really organised and calm in a crisis but my head is in a complete spin at the thought that we may have lost our chance to move to Oz. My husbands IELTs are booked for 27/7/13. Can anyone offer some realistic advice on what we can do to move things on quicker ourselves so that we can get our EOI in on time? Thank you very much
