It really is maddening isn't it. As someone who required the use of the NHS quite recently after being rushed to Moorefield's as an emergency patient I can honestly say that I was treated so well and I can't thank the amazing nurses and doctors enough for everything they did to help me that night. I am very lucky to still have my sight thanks to their swift and remarkable work. However afterwards I was informed I would require further surgery but was only offered a short term fix option by our local NHS hospital. My consultant did provide me with information of a treatment I could obtain privately at a cost of almost £8k which would be a one off treatment. She also made it very clear that I should make my mind up quickly as I required this operation as an emergency. With this in mind I visited my GP to see if I could obtain funding for my emergency operation which wasn't available on the NHS. She actually laughed at me. That day in all of the newspapers were stories of a young woman who had received a breast enhancement operation on the NHS costing around about the same amount as my vital eye operation. Needless to say I was more than a little miffed but we raided our visa fund and paid the almost £8k for my op. I'm all well after my op and my eye sight is so good , I cant remember it ever being this good and another plus is that I wont require any more operations. I've decided not to let it all upset me and think positive, although its difficult sometimes when you know that you've always worked hard and paid all your dues but when you really need help from certain quarters its not always available when it should be, however our visa fund is looking a little healthier again and hopefully we will be on OZ one day really soon..............
