I lived in Lithgow until 2006 and loved it. However, there are many that have negative view of Lithgow because of the climate (very cold) and social problems eg drug and alcohol abuse...but this is everywhere sadly and hard to escape. Anyway the points in favor of moving to Lithgow: *Nice environment for young children pre-high school children (not so hot for teens) *You have a relative in Lithgow which will be a valuable support to your family * Sydney is approx 3 hours away by train. Major Points against Lithgow: *Minimal employment opportunities *alienated youth/social problems If you do decide on moving to Lithgow try to get housing in town (the area between Lithgow Primary School and Lithgow Valley Plaza) Because you don't drive--walking distance to schools and shopping center would be very important consideration as bus transport has limited timetables. I'd suggest that if you moved to Lithgow do so with the plan of saving to move away when your oldest child reaches high-school. I say this because youth boredom in the town is endemic and can lead to social problems. There is not even a cinema in town!
