  1. It is what I want to hear, moving back to the UK and got savings to transfer!
  2. I got one over the phone from Chess they said a forty foot container would be around $11 - 12 k so not cheap!
  3. We are on a 457 visa and pay tax on the rental income in the UK.
  4. Haha! Think I meant .762 of a kg! It's certainly nothing like the size of yours!:-)
  5. Coles and some IGA's sell Mcloughlin's Irish bacon, black pudding, sausages and boiling bacon or bacon steaks. I love gammon too and this is the nearest I've found to it here. Not cheap tho, I've just paid $9.83 for a joint weighing 762kg and $9.17 for 470kg bacon. It is nice tho. I slow cook the joint and make soup but I guess you could roast it. They call it pickled pork here and it is not nice, tastes like pork in vinegar nothing like gammon! if anyone else knows where you can get proper English gammon I too would be very interested to know!
  6. I agree with tinaisra, I come from Wirral, the views of the welsh hills from Thurstaston or Heswall are beautiful! Grim it is not.
  7. You have to do a UK tax return and declare the amount you receive for rent. If that amount goes above your personal tax allowance you will have to pay tax on the difference. It depends what visa you are on as to whether you pay as well in Australia.
  8. Sorry to hijack this thread but what part of the Wirral do you come from? It must be a bad part if you are filled with horror at the thought of returning there. I am from near Heswall and apart from the weather here in Perth would have no problem with returning!
  9. I haven't paid tax for years in the UK as I didn't work but I still had to fill in a tax form because of the rental payments as I am joint owner with my husband on the mortgage. They then split the amount in two, took off any repairs and because of the allowance I didn't pay tax anyway.
  10. I lived on Sentosa for 16 months. Tanjong beach is lovely but the water is not very clean, certainly not like Australian beaches. You should takes bikinis and shorts as its always hot even when it rains! Universal on the island would be good for a visit too.
