  1. If it’s still the same you need to apply to the OT board for a skills assessment with transcripts from Uni. They say yes or no. If it’s a yes you then apply for jobs with someone willing to offer six months full time supervised practice. You then apply to AHPRA for limited reg. When you have received that you can work but you and your supervisor must complete regular documentation as to how you are travelling. Once completed you submit more paperwork to AHPRA to get your unlimited reg. If your are unfortunate like me, you are then audited the following year despite selling your soul the year before.
  2. Hi all. I did make it and nearly at the stage I can supervise. Wahoo. Feel free to email me if needed.
  3. When I contacted both OTC and AHPRA I got mixed messages every time. Nothing was clear cut. It also didn't matter whether you explained things to employers re: supervised practice, they just weren't interested. It sounds complicated and implies you cannot work without supervision so as an employer I would definitely go with the applicant with full reg. I have completed my half way report and OTC couldn't even be bothered to write and confirm things were OK. I found this a little rude considering the cost involved!! I know I shouldn't moan as I am employed but I have to say I'm so over it. Also I have the joy of paying ahpra yet again for full reg!!!
  4. Hi all Im four months into supervised practice. I can confirm 30 plus hours equals six months of supervised practice. If you work less it will take you considerably longer. Sickness and annual leave will be added on, so stay well and slog your guts out. Seems a little unfair when I work 38 hours a week but hey ho. I have found very little that is different from the UK but I grin and bear it. I'm writing to OTC and immigration on completion as I have found the whole process a little unfair. I've also met OTs who are only being paid OTA rates while undergoing the process. LuckilyiI'm not but Ihave had to drop a few grades as a compromise . I have to say if I knew it would have been this difficult...........
  5. I have say its been an absolute nightmare attempting to find an organization willing to take on supervised practice. I even offeted myself as a volunteer but didnt get responses!!! Most job adverts want full ahpra reg and won't consider your application without it. Luckily after applying for 16 jobs I now have been offered a position but 6 weeks later I'm still waiting for a response from ahpra re limted reg. I'm hoping my future employers will hold out. I would advise that your wife has all the necessary paperwork ready to go when needed as there is a lot of it. I would like to say its been easy and pain free but I think extracting my own teeth would have been easier. Good luck.
  6. Thanks NikkiDylan. I have contacted all involved and there appears no way round this. The locum agencies have been really good but it appears all employers want full registration and cant be faffed with the paperwork involved. Im that close to heading back to the UK as this is just ridiculous. Im assuming you are an OT?? If so, did you take up a non clinical role and if so, in what area? Thanks for the feedback BTW.
  7. Hi guys. Thanks for the response. I'm aware of all the procedures and I have already completed the desktop audit. Its just the case of finding an employer willing to take on the supervised practice. I'm in WA and as yet have not found anyone willing to take me on without full registration. I have now taken to ringing every agency up and down the country with view of going anywhere. No luck though.
  8. I need to have a job offer in order to register and i can't get a job without ahpra registration.
  9. Hi there all. Moved to sunny Oz in May and struggling to find work. I'm a qualified OT with 17 years of UK experience but can't gain employment as I'm not AHPRA registered. Is there anyone out there (anywhere) that will consider helping me out with my supervised practice? Seems ridiculous I was allowed in the country as a permanent resident based on my skills but I can't work. Arggggghhhhhh. Any help, advice would be gratefully received.
  10. Hi all In desperate need of some help. Moved here in May as permanent resident based on my OT qualification. However struggling to be even considered for work as I'm not AHPRA registered. I have been qualified and working for17 years as an OT . Anyone out there willing to assist with supervised practice for 6 mths? Will consider any location. TIA
  11. Hi there all After many years of talking about it, hubby and I have PR based on my qualifications and if the buyers of my house stop messing around I should be out there in about a month. Hubby already has a job and has been sunning himself since Jan in WA. Despite the fact my qualification is wanted it would seem that I cannot get AHPRA registered without a job but no job is available without AHPRA. How have fellow allied health professionals found this process. :arghh:
