Yippee - after a very long wait, almost four years, son's former resident visa (subclass 151) has been granted. Now we can look forward to the family being reunited.

Hi, son had same issue with US police clearance, had to get fingerprints done and sent to FBI for checking. Yes it was a long process but he has been told if he has not returned to US he will not need to supply another clearance.

What ever you do don't leave the country without a return resident visa. Our son left some years ago to work back in UK and now wants to come back home. Three years since application and still going through the process. We've had to jump through hoops to prove he was in the country for a minimum of 9 of his first 18 years and they are still wanting more proof. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, we should have arranged citizenship before he left.
