  1. As a CA i would agree with Rupert that it is better regarded than CPA. However, if you are intending to work in commerce rather than a professional firm, the general feel is that CPA is fine.
  2. I think the problem is mate - you are viewing LSL in the same light as other leave entitlements. I guess it is similar to sick leave - you take it when your sick (hence the name) and if you are not sick and leave your job, then you lose it! The trick is in the name... Long Service!
  3. It's back... Good stuff mate i like your pride, which, even if some folk do find it offending, is much nicer than the aussie equivalent "fit in or f@#% off"
  4. In respect of temp agencies tgere are heaps of them and they are all much of a muchness. google labour hire brisbane for the sort of work your after, for kitchen or hospitality work, when i first came out and was chefing i used chefs on the run who were excellent but im not sure if they are still around as i jumped out of the industry
  5. Problem is that the "pot" doesnt become yours until your service is completed. From what i recall it is possible to get your entitlements or some of it after 5 years if you leave for certain reasons.
  6. Sorry to hijack the thread but homewardbound588, I am very disappointed you have changed the nugget "to be born English is to....." quote at the bottom of your quotes. Every time I read it, my chest puffed a bit and I walked out of my office with some pommy pride - even after 13 years I am English through and through!!
  7. Hi Guys - I have been here 13 years after arriving at age 21! Advice I would give is as follows: 1. Have a look for house shares in New Farm or other suburbs that are pretty close to the city - generally the nightlife centres around town. Try http://www.realestate.com.au for shares and renting. 2. Like people have said before - seek is the biggest job site here and throughout Oz. 3. You won't "get it" til you arrive and have a look around but distances are big! I'd say that marine jobs would be centred on the coasts and they will be fewer in Brissy, whereas business jobs will be fewer on the coasts! It might be easier to get a marine job on the gold coast say, a business job in brissy and live somewhere on the train line half way between! 4. I assume that you are staying at the YHA on Upper Roma Street? Near to there is a decent supermarket (Coles), Suncorp Stadium (get yourself to a Broncos game) and some decent restaurants / pubs. Roma Street station is about 500m walk which is the main transit centre for Brisbane City. You can get the "Airtrain" from the airport to Roma Street for about 16 bucks each which is definitely cheaper than a cab. 5. Get yourself a "Go Card" to use the public transport - it makes buses, trains (except the Airtrain), ferries and city cats (catamarans that go up the river) far cheaper (you just scan on and off etc - like Oyster card in London). 6. Start off small job wise - get into the waitressing and deliveries / labouring (you shold find a job no probs I reckon) then just keep looking for other stuff. Hope this helps - good luck and enjoy the weather - it is perfect at the moment!! best time of the year!!
  8. no problems - i am northside for 13 years - happy to answer any other queries you might have
  9. Try Kedron Park Medical Centre or Chermside Medical Centre. Chermside have been my doctors for 13 years since I arrived and are excellent - you generally don't have a regular doctor but always get in quick and the centre has every type of medical service you would need altogether!
  10. Hi - don't suppose you need a fridge / freezer? I am about to list ours on ebay!!
  11. Definitely the daily mail... Need a wash after it i never remember it being quite so full of rubbish when i lived there... Mind you its been 13 years. anyone tried the guardian for aussie news, it beats the couriermail everytime!
  12. Hi kate post on here when u arrive and could catch up for a drink if ur still interested!
  13. So I post on here, click off this site and straight on to the Courier Mail and bang http://www.couriermail.com.au/travel/news/landing-in-trouble-new-air-route-set-to-cause-chaos/story-e6freqwo-1226607751400
  14. I went to an Aus (groom) / English(bride) wedding in Koh Samui, Thailand last year and it was brilliant... Best wedding I have ever been to except my own!!
  15. I recently flew Qantas after a bit of a break from trying them and was actually impressed. Sadly I have to disagree with most peoples sentiments re Emirates - I didn't like flying them at all (have flown them twice hoping that my 1st experience would be redeemed). To be honest, I think it is the really long leg that I dislike (going Aus - Dubai or Dubai - Aus). Flying through Singapore just seems so much better in terms of flight lengths!!
