  1. That is certainly true Perthbum, I value everything about this place so much more.... Even the rain!!!! Not many have tried slating in 45 degree heat!!!
  2. I may add, upon realising the employers bullsh1t..... I contacted a company in Adelaide, they knew who I was without me telling them....(news travels fast in Australia!!! Haha) i was instantly offered to switch the 457 to them, a lucrative salary, and all the help needed to move over... I kindly declined, and I know I made the right decision in coming home.
  3. I tried Perth.... Came on the dreaded 457 with a family of 7...(don't shoot me)!!! And was fed a pack of lies by my employer about future work after finishing the big job that I was headhunted for!!! i supervised the slate roof on The Old Treasury Building in the CBD. Stayed for 9 months......completed the contract, Didn't like Perth at all, just not for us..I was on a very good salary, but the cost of living for a family of 7 meant we weren't exactly rolling in it.... Make the same wage at home in Wales now, and on probably a third of the living cost!!..The pull of family and friends was too great, the thought of my mum in law at home on her own with no grandchildren was a weight on my mind..., and the peaceful Isle of Anglesey.... Why did I ever think Perth would be a better place is beyond me!! Glad I tried it, no regrets really (apart from the stitch up by employer which left us on the brink of losing our home!!) but life is good now, it's taken 18 months to get back on track.....made some wonderfull friends that we're still in touch with, some great memories too..... And consumed far too much beer!! if I could give one piece of advice to anyone out there is to follow you're heart.... That will lead to happiness..... Be it in oz or in the UK. And don't for one minute think you're a failure for returning home, most of those who would call anyone that have probably failed in the UK, and are probably still failing in oz, but would never admit it.
  4. You are entitled to a tax return.... Subject to status obviously, I received mine yesterday..... Took just over 3 months due to the early submitance, I've not got round to the super annuation yet........don't know how to get start that process!! good luck!

Your obviously playing the blind man..... Or live in the outback!!!!! I'm pretty well travelled..... And this dump tops the lot for rudeness, racism and mind numbing boredom!!!!! best thing about Perth ?????? The departure lounge!!!

Who's whinging??? If it's not for me so be it... We've tried it... We don't like it.... Simple really!! we don't regret trying it here at all, our preference is Wales...... No regrets, some good memories.... And lifelong friends... Many of whom are Irish ....... Wonderful people

I have also met some great people... And made some amazing friends, but the dream I was sold by my employer isn't bearing fruit, I won't waste my time here in the hope of his promises coming true, which he still assures me will happen. Just going to treat it as a working holiday and bank some great memories.

It's common knowledge that most (not all) Aussies despise the poms, there's no hiding from that fact, you can play the blind man if you want, but my eyes are wide open, and I don't want my kids to be part of it.

Good luck with your move back home!! After being sold a dream that isn't by my employer...... At least he has to pay our flights home.... For 7 of us!!!!!! good old 457!!!!

I'm from Anglesey up north, a truly beautifull place, such is Wales from top to bottom really! there was tears of joy from my mother in law yesterday when we told here we're coming home, to have your family and friends around your children while their growing up is far more important than a bit of beach life IMO. Contrary to popular belief..... This is not a great place to bring your kids up. Cymru am BYTH!!

    Returning to Wales

You don't realise what you've got, till it's gone! And my opinion is Wales is a much better place than Perth, yes there are nice beaches and sunshine, damn good chance of getting skin cancer, lots of crime, big problem with racism here, a lot of hatred towards migrants, very poor education system..... And the cost of living?....I won't even start!!! our decision is made.... We're going back in February ........ We now have a happy household!!!!!! Can't wait to touch the green green grass of home!!! australia is not for us!

    Returning to Wales

Absolutely spot on!! im here with wife and five kids and the cost of living here in perth is mental!!!! the promises made by my employer seem to have been bullsh1t!! we're going to enjoy the summer then as it stands, back to wonderfull Wales in March! its just not for me, not the dream that it's painted, glad I've tried it...... Better to regret something you have done, than regret something you haven't!!
  13. Hi Leeza just the one payment $455 I think, and medical insurance cover, costs vary...... Mine was $320 per month for a BIG family!
  14. I'm heading to Perth in 10 days... Today in Wales, we're being battered by 70mph winds and heavy rain!!!!! I can't wait to try the 'windy' city!!
  15. Positive mind breeds positive actions!!! You'll be fine mate, the knowledge that you have, will come rolling out without thinking. good luck..... I might join you lot in perth for a pint
