Thanks! Anyone else here take the test on that day?

Woot! Got my IELTS scores (feedback to come) and managed to bag a 9.0 for writing, listening and speaking, and an 8.5 for reading. Happy as larry; now on to sorting out the teacher QTS qualification debacle!

How much are the large cubes, roughly?

IELTS for 189 visa: academic or general?
nuttersuclan replied to nuttersuclan's topic in Working and Skilled Visas
Thanks for the advice OzManiac. I thought that partners had to be skills assessed for all visa applications? Doesn't it stipulate that applicants must both be on the SOL or CSOL lists (and the same one as each other, too)? If not, I'm not sure the wife will like this, as all the pressure is on her! Thanks for that additional information, it's a bit clearer now! -
IELTS for 189 visa: academic or general?
nuttersuclan replied to nuttersuclan's topic in Working and Skilled Visas
Hi Kooky Thanks for the reply. We haven't employed the services of an agent, no. To be honest, the whole process is expensive enough as it is, so for the sake of some additional research/time we opted not to. I've had a look at some sample papers online and it looks fairly straightforward (I hope I don't regret that optimism in future!), but I just wanted to ensure that if we take the academic one it will be increase our points for the VISA application, should we be invited. Unless I can find out otherwise, I think I'm going to go and book the academic one tomorrow! -
Hey all I have done quite a bit of searching through existing posts on the forum, and elsewhere, but can't find a conclusive answer to my question. When applying for a 189 visa, do I need take an academic or general IELTS? I have read that the rules have changed and that only one type is being accepted...but does anyone which one?! My wife is a secondary school teacher and I am a university lecturer, if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for your help

Dear all I'm just starting the skills assessment process via VETASSESS, as a University Lecturer. There is the option (at $80 AUS) to receive a letter in support of your points application, primarily about your work experience and qualifications. A question to those who are in the know, or have been through the process; is it worth it? I can only see that it might speed up the visa application slightly, as there's one less thing for them to check in a rigorous fashion, but is there another potential benefit I'm missing here, or is this a waste of $80? Cheers in advance

Dear all Apologies for reposting this, but I thought it might be useful to have a separate thread in a more populated section of the message board. The points system criteria suggests 5 points can be awarded for your partner's qualifications, as long as you are on the same Occupation List. I, a lecturer, am not on the SOL whereas my wife, a secondary school teacher, is. We are both, however, on the CSOL. Does anyone know if this counts? Thanks in advance

Hey all My wife (teacher) and I (lecturer) are hoping to make the move to Sydney in the next 12-18 months. We've got two young girls (4 and 6 months) and are just starting the whole process. It's quite a minefield, that's for sure! As a start, can I throw out a few noob questions; 1 - Once granted, how long do you have to take up residence in Australia? We're applying for subclass 189. 2 - The points system suggests 5 points can be awarded for your partner's qualifications, as long as you are on the same Occupation List. A lecturer is not on the SOL whereas a secondary school teacher is. We are both, however, on the CSOL. Does this count? 3 - Roughly how much (%) of the visa application fee is required at the start, at how much when it has been granted? Many thanks in advance
