  1. Hi Guys we will be finishing local interviews this week. We have been over run with applicants & didnt expect to get so much interest. Thanks to everyone who applied & we will keep your resume's on file. Those thinking about moving into Victoria from O/S dont give up as we have massive need for experienced Gas Techs as there has been little training for over a decade & during the winter months very few gas servicing companies can meet demand. To expediate your provisional gas tech license email the registrar at the Plumbing Industry Commission for all the info you need. This commision will be closing down in the next 6 months due to many problems it has caused within our State. The new plumbing advisory board which is currently being put together will be an unknown quantity & may change the process of licensing leaving even us confused. All the best
  2. Got all the Cv's & thankyou! I have passed some CV's onto some general plumbing firms that may give you a call - hope you dont mind. We actualy need more specialised skills for the roles we have. So I didnt want to waste peoples time hence my further post Bit more of a background of what skills we need. Victoria has the largest number of natural gas applainces in OZ per capita. Unlike the UK we dont have mandatory Corgi certification each year for tenanted properties. With the demise of our state run Gas corporation back in 1997 their hasnt been any formal training for Gas Technicians. Therefore our work force has slowly dwindled away. With the lack of regulatory support very few companies have maintained their gas repair businesses to due to most of the above factors. We run an apprenticeship program but the current training in Victoria is very basic & lacks the proper accreditation to effectly carry out the role along with most of our apprentices taking around 5 years to become self sufficient. So what we have found there are 7000 licensed type A gas service techs in Victoria but maybe 30 who actualy have the required skill set to carry out day to day gas appliance servicing. We have found it can be a win win situation to meet our staffing demands by sourcing gas techs from the UK which we have found has worked great for us & the British expats. Our largest customers are other plumbing firms, due to the current day gas appliances electronics are to daunting for most. Hence we need gas techs who have a solid understanding electrics as well as gas. The current regulations in Victoria state the Gas Tech must hold the parent licensed class of Gasfitter & then the specialist class of Type A gas tech. (so unfortunately answering the post above - sparkies cant work on the gas side of appliances legaly) A day to day role for our gas techs is being able attend between 4-6 jobs a day within a 5klm region. Have a high quality workmanship & high regard for safety. Understanding of fan forced combustion & flame rectification & the 3 stages of ignition process. ( if you know what we are talking about give us a line) Great communication skills & customer service. We do offer training & help out with familarization of OZ applainces along with field supervisor support for tricky jobs. We will even help you get through the many registration issues. The role is listed on the skill shortage list by the federal government for skilled migration to Australia & we are registerd as an authorised employer for 457 working visas. I hope that helps explain what we need. It just doesnt work unless you do have a solid background in repairing gas appliances - not just installing them.
  3. We are a Melbourne based Gas appliance repair company based in Bayside area looking for more staff. We have serviced natural gas appliances for over 10 years through out the south east suburbs of Melbourne. We have had some fantastic Uk gas technicians work for us & we need more. You do need experience in gas appliance repairs & understand the basic principles of gas & electronics to apply. You will also need to become Licensed by the Victorian plumbing industry commission. Corgi certification is recognised but a competency exam will need to be passed to gain a License. We offer great conditions, uniform, phone service vehicle & training on local appliances. We are about to start our intake of gas appliance technicians for the coming winter season. If you are interested in the roles we have on offer.
