Transfers to UK-based foreign currency account

I'm a bit confused. You are currently in the UK and you want to convert pounds from your UK bank account into Australian dollars and deposit them in a UK-based HSBC account to take advantage of exchange rates, right? If that's the case, why are you looking at a forex company like Ozforex which is in Australia? Surely it's an entirely UK-based transaction?

    exemption to leave Qld

The big question is, why would you bother? If you're leaving Australia permanently, you can already get an exemption to leave, so there's no need to fly via NZ. If you want to go overseas for a shorter period, it may be easier to "escape" via New Zealand, but you're still going to have the huge headache of getting back.

I know no one will care but...........

Yes, just like Charles is Charles’s name. That’s my point

I know no one will care but...........

Well, it would only be skipping one generation if he did choose George, so why would another one in the pipeline be seen as a problem? Georges 1, 2 and 3 were in quick succession.

I know no one will care but...........

He won't pick a new name, he can use one of his own names. He was named Charles Philip Arthur George deliberately, so he'd have a choice of which name he would use as king. All my life, every report I've ever read has said that he's likely to choose to be a George as a tribute to his grandfather. The Queen's father was always known as Albert (and Bertie to his family) but he switched to George when he became King. I agree it seems old-fashioned but the royals are very strong on tradition. If he's going to do something unusual or radical, then maybe he'll step down in favour of William (though that would be very complicated to do).

He already said he's not going to use Charles (the previous two King Charles didn't end well so maybe he thinks it's a bad omen)
  7. No, the waiting time is much shorter than that, if you're applying from the UK. We had one person posting here, in the last few weeks, whose application was processed so fast that they hadn't even had time to submit all their evidence! With all other visa applications practically at a standstill, it looks like they're getting to partner visas much faster now. And that's a point that's relevant to you, too. Unless you are in a Priority Occupation, your chances of any kind of work visa are extremely slim anyway until the borders reopen, so you may as well bite the bullet and do the 309. Also get your daughter's Australian passport if you haven't already.

Yes, apply for the visa then give the reference number in the travel exemption application.

    190 Visa Grant

But there's a difference between being optimistic and being unrealistic. It's not good for yourself or your family if you're putting your life on hold for something that isn't going to happen. Sadly the Australian government has made a complete pig's ear of the vaccine rollout and it's unlikely they'll be opening the borders this year to anyone but priority occupations.

    exemption to leave Qld

You must have your Aussie passport to leave the country. The procedure is simple. You fill out a form and attach your evidence: https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/leaving-australia#toc-6 You need to show sufficient evidence of why you're leaving. Why do you want to go? If you're leaving permanently, you need to attach things like a quote for shipping your stuff, a copy of the notice you've given your landlord or proof that the house is on the market.

    190 Visa Grant

What's the point? Only priority occupations are being considered and even if you got the visa, it's almost impossible to enter the country.

    Are we mad... lol

Yup, all that means is "first". It was the first state to be founded. Doesnt mean anything more than that.

    Never heard anyone claim that.

    Move cube feedback

@returningtooz, you have a wide choice of international removalists. You'll find all of them have good and bad reviews. The problem is that there isn't a company which can handle your shipment all the way from one end to the other, it get handed off to various sub-contractors along the way. If you've got a whole 3 bedroom house including most of the furniture, then you may need a 20 foot container all to yourself. This is obviously the most expensive option (unless you need a 40 ft container, LOL), but it is the most secure and quickest (if you can call any shipping "quick"). If you have less than a full container, you can share a container with others. This will be slower, because the container won't ship till its full, so you might be waiting for other people's orders before it will start its journey. Your belongings are divided from everyone else's but things do get mixed up sometimes, so there's a higher risk of stuff going missing too. But obviously you're saving money compared to a full container. When deciding what to bring, a good exercise is to do a trial shop in Australian stores, to see what it would cost to replace what you leave behind. Harvey Norman, Ikea, Peters of Kensington, Appliances Online all have websites where you can do that.

    Move cube feedback

Movecube sorts all the Customs stuff at the other end, just like any removal company. As for the inventory, if you self-packed any container, you'd have to do your own inventory. Quoll described how to do it.

Seven Seas can supply all the packing materials, but there's nothing to stop you using your own suitcases, spare boxes or whatever you have.

    Are we mad... lol

No. As Ali says, you can't board any domestic flight until you've done your quarantine.
  20. It's bound to vary, depending on how many years you've already contributed and how far you are from retirement age. I'm already at retirement age but there's a grace period during which you can contribute the years you missed. My calculations showed that I'll be in profit after 5 years. That's not a full pension, though, because even after my extra payments, I'm only at around 25 years. Of course I'll be in my 70s by then, so it's quite possible I won''t live that long. However, paying the extra cost only a few thousand which I really won't miss. And if I live into my 80s or 90s I'll be quids in, even at the frozen rate.

    Missing the UK

Me too. British TV is the best, I always enjoy going round the shops when I'm there, and it is nice being so close to Europe for holidays. But for day-to-day living, I'm happier in Australia. I'm not even sure why, I just am.
  22. Marisawright

    Are we mad... lol

I'm not sure that's true. At one point, the rule was definitely that you had to quarantine at your first point of entry into Australia, regardless of where you planned to end up. It may have changed now but worth checking.

    Move cube feedback

The dimensions of the largest Movecube are roughly 1.8m x 1.5m x length 2.2m. Try marking that out on your floor, and mark the height on the wall. You're not going to fit your whole house in that! I think they mean you can ship by booking multiple Movecubes - but that's misleading. For instance, when we were thinking of using a Movecube, we measured up our sofa and our queen bed and realised that although they would fit in a cube, the shape that was left would be so awkward that we couldn't use the space for much else. I'd think if you want to use the Movecube system, you have to leave your really large pieces of furniture behind. If you are going to use a Movecube, then there's no substitute for what Quoll did: you need to set aside a space in your house and do a test pack before the cube arrives. You only have a day to pack it so you need to know exactly what you're packing beforehand.

What’s the Difference Between Saving and Investing?

I think @Whey aye misunderstood your post, thinking it was saying people shouldn't invest. Hence the rant, which you didn't deserve. To me, it was obvious it was a cautionary tale about what can go wrong when someone borrows to invest without proper thought to the risks.
